Mahoney was dialing like lovesick teen
Update: Well, the Mrs. changed her mind. Terry Mahoney filed for divorce Monday afternoon.
When it came to women other than his wife, U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney behaved somewhat like a lovesick high schooler.
He called early, like 4 a.m.
He called often, like 20 times a day.
According to one of his monthly cell-phone bills obtained by page2live.com, the Democratic congressman from Palm Beach Gardens called one of his alleged paramours 122 times between Jan. 31 and March 1.
That’s 100 more calls than his wife received in the same period.
At times he called the “other woman,” a leggy 40-something Martin County government official, 20 times a day. When she didn’t pick up, he’d call back over and over again, sometimes six times in a row.
Mahoney called her well past midnight, then first thing in the morning six hours later.
The phone bill also shows the Martin County woman changed her phone number in early February, around the time I first requested from the county information about her cell phone.
County attorneys refused to release her phone records. They claimed the woman owned the phone even if she received a stipend from the government.
“I’ll release a statement tomorrow (Friday),” the woman told me late Thursday. “It’ll become clear why we (she and Mahoney) were on the phone so much.”
But by Friday, she had stopped returning calls and didn’t fulfill her promise.
Mahoney’s long distance phone adventures, meanwhile, extended to others.
On Feb. 7, the freshman legislator called another woman at 4:18 a.m., according to the AT&T bill.
“We talked about the Indian River Lagoon,” said Palm Beach Gardens environmental consultant Kathy Copeland. She’s a former spokeswoman with the South Florida Water Management District and the sister of disgraced former Palm Beach County Commish Tony Masilotti’s ex-fiancée.
“I’ve worked with a lot of elected officials,” she said. “It’s not unusual to get a call in the wee hours. I don’t sleep much. In this case, the congressman wanted to talk about the lagoon and the inner workings of the (U.S. Army) Corps of Engineers.
“I’m not (girlfriend) No. 3. It was strictly business.”
As for the former Mahoney staffer by whom the scandal exploded a week ago, Tricia Allen, the bill shows three calls Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.
That’s when he fired her. She struck back by demanding money. Mahoney eventually paid her and two lawyers $121,000 – a payment that’s being investigated by the FBI.
The wife?
Terry Mahoney did get three calls from her hubby on St. Valentine’s Day. But the representative interspersed those calls with several to the Martin County official.
“There’ll be no divorce,” Terry told me Friday when reached on her cell phone.
In several interviews Friday, Mahoney, who’s trying to get re-elected in a district that includes Stuart and Fort Pierce, admitted to “multiple affairs.”
Mahoney did not return calls for comment.

Good job of research made for an interesting article.
When did this man WORK–for the people?????
Democrats believe in ENTITLEMENT.
Republicans believe in MERITOCRACY.
Democrats believe in shareing their lust LIBERALLY.
Republicans CONSERVE their to devotion according to INDIVIDUALISM.
Just as a Liberal professor takes 30 points from a hard working student and gives it to a lazy student, so that both can pass, a libearl spouse takes a portion of his love from his spouse and shares it around.
Thank you for your dedication to uncovering facts and answering questions I can’t be the only one asking.
I’m in an adjacent district and relatively new to PBC and its unique politics - but if this POS is re-elected, I’ll be very disappointed in his constituents.
It just amazes me that democrats that think it is wrong to judge, are the first to judge republicans when it fits their agenda. Then they claim the high road when situations affect their own by saying that we shouldn’t judge others.
And the worse part is that they have conditioned people to accept this crap.
Response to Frank Lee–this is not a problem that’s specific to political parties. Remember that that seat used to belong to Mark Foley who had problems of his own–including cheating on a long time partner. To tar all liberals–or all politicians–with the same brush is unfair and untruthful. And not really very funny or clever, which is what you were aiming for. Right?
To Ann:
You’re right; there are probably very few absolute statements. And the distinctions cited may apply only generally to specific situations. Like in the case of quotas applied to affirmative action that results in reverse discrimination (Entitlement/Merit). Or taking from the rich to give to the poor (tax the rich to give to the undeserving). I am aware of Foley’s scandal. He resigned, like almost all Republicans caught in a scandal. Mahoney has not resigned, like almost all Democrats caught in a scandal. (After all, he was entitled!) Would you accept that the statements would better if preceded by the word ‘Most”?
I work for Martin County government and I can tell you this is a disgusting scandal that nauseates all the decent employees. People in Port saint lucie have every right to be angry about not recieving FEMA maoney for their damage. The County employee slept with Mahoney so he worked harder for Martin County and not Saint Lucie, this is WRONG!! I understand that the very FBI agents investigating this scandal were the same ones who busted Corrupt PB County commissioners Newall and Masseratti. Mahoney and his whole corrupt Harum of whores may well face jail time too. I want to thank Jose for helping crack this story wide open for the public to see.
