Here’s something else in the home that could kill you: The ol’ back massager from the specialty gadget store.

Just ask Delray dentist Robert Adami.

A $160 shiatsu massager may have caused more than $1.3 million in damages and the death of Jake, his dog, in a spectacular fire in west Delray Monday.

Adami rushed back to his house in his scrubs that morning, only to find out the $1.5 million-home at the Saturnia development will have to be gutted and re-built.

“We left the chair massager plugged in but we weren’t using it for a while,” he said. “The firefighters told me it looked like the transformer overheated and set the thing on fire.

“My daughter bought that for me a few years ago. It was an impulse purchase.”

Palm Beach County firefighters, meanwhile, confirm the fire started in the corner of the family room where the gadget was slumped over a chair. They pointed out a recall was once issued for similar products in 2001.

Thats terrible Doc. This story isnt nearly as funny as the headline made it out to be. I had a visceral laugh before I read…now I feel kinda bad. Best of luck, and make sure to beat that statute of limitations
