Bush 41 is MIA from Evert tennis classic
In keeping with his son’s sudden disappearance from political radar as the presidential election nears, former Prez George H.W. Bush skipped the 19th Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic this weekend.
The event still brought some big names. Comedian Billy Crystal materialized for the black tie gala Saturday at the Boca Raton Resort, as did the likes of rocker Gavin Rossdale (a.k.a. Mr. Gwen Stefani), SNL grads Jon Lovitz and Chevy Chase.
But missing was Bush the elder, a favorite among event devotees. When he didn’t play a match, or two, he showed up for the gala. And when pop missed the event, former Gov. Jeb Bush replaced him.
But as the many things that went wrong under Dubya threaten the candidacy of John McCain and boosts Democrat Barack Obama, the Bush family was MIA.
On purpose? Bush the elder, after all, gets a king’s treatment from Evert’s people, including a jet all to himself and the, well, presidential suite.
But former tennis champ Chris Evert doesn’t think he’s avoiding the press, or the
public.
“The president (No. 41, who’s 84 years old) is slowing down, that’s all,” said Evert, entering the gala at the arm of new hubby, Greg Norman.
Despite her closeness to Bush, Evert says she’s still undecided about the election.
“There is no clear cut pick,” she said. “Both candidates have strength and weaknesses.”
Chase, the star of Fletch who blasted V.P. wannabe Sarah Palin’s job on a recent SNL, is going Democrat. Norman is an Aussie and can’t cast a ballot, although he says: “With the amount I pay in taxes, I should.” Lovitz and Crystal wouldn’t say where they stand.

There’s no question #41 is slowing down. He barely made it last year and only relented after Chrissie begged him. They’ve been friends for years. Chrissie used to play tennis with the fam in Kennebunkport. I’m shocked she didn’t marry Jeb or #43. Chris and the Bushes are very, very close.
I’m sure they get along great. Chris seems to have the nasty personality of Mrs H.W. Bush.
Carol, Chrissie can indeed be nasty, but you’re confusing your first ladies. Mrs. George H. W. Bush wasn’t the nasty one; that was Hillary Clinton.
Why would your photographer publish 156 photos instead of just 15-20 good shots? Just because that many photos were taken doesn’t mean that they all have to be uploaded to your site! Please take the time to go through your shots and only pick out the top 15-20 good ones!
I could have taken better photos with my digital camera; instead I’m asked to wade through dozens of bad quality pictures many that were only different because of the camera angle (enough Jon Lovitz shots please). I didn’t have the patience to go through all of them to see any of Chris Evert playing.
Please start doing the right thing and either having a mini index of the photos so I can determine which ones to look at or take the time to sift through them first and only post a few good ones. Thanks for listening.
