In Victory, Or Defeat, Candidates Will Party On
An election day is also about parties. The kind where there’s music and libations.
There’ll be victory parties and, well, drown-you-sadness soirees.
And Page2Live will hit them all tonight, and blog live from each.
Here is what some of the candidates are planning. Most will kick off their respective events about 8 p.m. Could be later, depending on the returns.Democrats and Republicans in Palm Beach County are organizing big blowouts where most candidates and their supporters are expected to show their faces at one time or another.
GOP boss Sid Dinerstein’s people are taking over the fifth floor of the Regions Financial Tower on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.
The Democrats’ affair will be a few miles south, at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
With U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney on the hot seat in the wake of a sex scandal, a source in his shrinking camp says he’ll stay in his Palm Beach Gardens home and watch television. The campaign did reserve a ballroom at PGA National Resort – just in case.
His Republican opponent, lawyer Tom Rooney, will get things cranking after 7 p.m. at the Hamptons Inn on U.S. 1 in Stuart.
“Hey, the campaign didn’t have much money when we booked,” joked Jeff Ostermayer, Rooney’s campaign manager.
Greenacres-based State Sen. Dave Aronberg, who’s up for reelection against Republican Matt Caldwell, says the Dems plans are in flux.
“You know us Democrats,” he said.
Still, South County Democrats like County Commish Burt Aaronson (who’s seeking his last term against Republican Charlotte Beasley) will have their own early-bird party, at the South County Civic Center in Delray. U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, also up for reelection, is piggy-backing on Aaronson and will have his shindig there, too.
Watch for State Sen. Ted Deutch to show up. He’s got two more years before his term is up.
U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, says campaign official Melissa Silverman, is hoping for a victory party at the Embassy Suites in Boca Raton. Kick off is 8 p.m.
His challenger, Republican and former U.S. Army colonel Allen West, plans on starting the evening with a motorcycle ride with buds up A1A in Broward into Boca, then party at Gatsby’s Boca on SW 18th Street.
