Rival networks are scrambling to offer former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley a better gig than his appearance on NBC’s warm-milk-and-cereal Today next week.
It’s gonna be tough, though.
A member of Foley’s entourage tells Page2Live that Today host Matt Lauer repeatedly phoned Foley over the past six months, and the two are now chummy.
Back when he was a politician, before his blue e-mails to congressional pages were leaked to the press during his 2006 reelection campaign, Foley attended Lauer’s yearly gala for Hospice of Palm Beach County.
“Mark did say he’d talk after he’d be cleared of legal problems and after the election,” the source said.
The FDLE abandoned the investigation this fall when Congress repeatedly denied the agency access to Foley’s e-mail system.
Although he has attended parties and private dinners as well as diverse events throughout the area, the Lake Worth native has steadfastly refused long interviews. He briefly spoke to me in March, describing himself as a happy camper who’d quit drinking.
A producer for ABC, meanwhile, has been calling some of those close to Foley to pass along an offer to appear on just about any shows he wants.
“We can put him on 20/20 or Nightline, but we can’t pay him anything,” he said.
Today staff were gone for the weekend and couldn’t be reached.

Tania, you are very, very wrong, and you need to get your facts straight.
1) Mark never lied about anything. He never lied about the fact that he wrote lurid emails and IMs. In fact, he aditted to it and apologized.
2) The sex predator legislation was put into effect not as a cover-up but because Mark himself was a sexual abuse victim and wanted to protect children.
3) As for him having a problem, he HAD a problem, which Mark addressed when he went into therapy.
4) Mark was not and is not a predator. Further, he was never charged or convicted of anything which makes him INNOCENT.
Don’t make this man–who did so much for this community–out to be the criminal that he isn’t. When was the last time you did anything to serve this community, Tania? Grow a brain and get your facts straight.
To whomever is attempting to change the truth -
1. FOLEY DID LIE - he was confronted by the Republican House Leader about the rumors of him going after male pages in a sexual manner after several of them complained about it to their supervisors. Foley denied he had done anything improper, or had contacted male pages in a sexual manner at any time. THAT WAS A LIE.
2.Any head shrinker will tell you that many people hide their shortcomings by railing against others who committ similar offenses. Perhaps Foley did want to protect children, under the age of 12 or 13, but in his mind a 16 or 17-year old boy page was a sexual target for himself and fair game.
3. PHONEY REHAB. Gimme a break, He goes to class for a while and he’s cured? Talk to law enforcement people about men who go after teens. They are never “cured” and the urge is always there. Bottom line, foley is gay, and has hid that from voters for years. He never came out and openly told Republicans “I am gay.” HE HAS A PROBLEM.
4. Because congress refused to let the Feds review his thousands of emails to young male pages he beat the case. You may think that makes him “innocent” - perhaps in the eye of the law he is. But Foley was a congressman, in the eye of the public. The public knows the truth. Foley is another republican closeted gay who wanted to have sex with teen male pages.
Foley did a lot for the community? Pay me $170,000 a year, treat me like royalty, pay my expenses to travel the world, and I’ll do a lot for the community myself, WIHTOUT HAVING TO PURSUE TEEN MALE PAGES FOR SEX.

FBI said it all. Thanks for explaining it better than I could! The only reason Foley was not charged is because he used his congressional position to cover his tracks. I say that since he was using government equipment (his computers) in the commission of a crime, he should not have been able to claim they were exempt from being searched. Foley is sick as well as creepy. He needs to go away again because he is an embarassment to the FL District 16 constituency. Funny how now that Tim Mahoney got in trouble, now Foley shows up again. To too cute for radio and john m. harvey that commented above…I hope you don’t have male children or grandchildren. If you do, I hope you keep Foley away from them. You may have been acquainted with him for a number of years, but you don’t really know him at all!!
Has it been proven that this man had illegal sex with underage boys? No. I rest my case.

In order to satisfy you that Mark Foley is a liar, a pedofile, and a gay man who hid his problems from voters, we must have a video of him engaging in sex acts, with the underaged male page showing his ID to the camera proving he is under 18, while police officers watch in person, and a stenographer records every sound? Then he must be convicted in court. Only then you will admit that it happened?
