After his talk about coming-of-age in Palm Beach Wednesday at the Society of The Four Arts, George Hamilton faced a tough question from an elderly fan.

It referred to the Palm Beach Post’s “A Date With George” contest. Only women “over 45 with her own means” needed apply for an intimate tete-a-tete with the legendary charmer.

So, a very forward elderly woman stood up and asked: “What makes you think that any 45-year-old wants to spend time with you?”

Gasps from the audience.

Sixty-nine, and unflappable as ever, Hamilton smiled and said: “Well, I said 45 just like I could have said 55 or 65. It doesn’t matter.”

Later, another older lady palmed him her business card and whispered: “I may be much older than 45, but I’m a woman of means!”

Later that day, Hamilton’s tour for his biography, Don’t Mind If I Do, took him through the $38 million-beachfront mansion of Broadway financier Terry Allen Kramer, where Page2Live caught up with the actor.

Before 50 or so hardcore Palm Beachers, some of whom had some wild times with the playboy here, Hamilton said The Island makes him feel young.

“I go over there on the beach and lie down and close my eyes, and I’m 17 again,” he said. “Things haven’t changed much.”

And then, said Hamilton, the town’s got style.

“When I first arrived in Hollywood, I noticed quickly that people there were really truing to emulate Palm Beach,” he said.

Paying homage to Hamilton at Kramer’s: Golf legend Ray Floyd and his wife Maria; Bridget Koch; Bob Leidy; his former wife, Liza Pulitzer; Newlyweds Angela Koch and Doug Stockham; Michelle Kessler; H. Lloy Anderson and wife Inger; and big GOP donor Gay Gaynes.

In the past weeks, meanwhile, the Post has received nearly 100 notes telling why their authors want a date with the star of The Godfather III and Zorro The Gay Blade.

Hamilton will pick the winner next week.

Among the candidates: 68-year-old Judy Brewster, the widow of a former U.S. Senator from Maryland, Daniel Brewster. In the late 60s, he was considered one of the handsomest in the Congress.
