Tiger’s lair spreads to Palm Beach County

That Tiger Woods, such a secretive guy!

The golf prodigy is quietly investing even more heavily in our fair area’s real estate.

According to Palm Beach County records, Woods bought through a trust two plots in an unincorporated area near Jupiter for a total $2.4 million – and neighbors say it’s to build his mom a 22,000-square-foot mansion.

“This has been all a big secret,” said optometrist Rusel Sutcliffe, whose property is next to Woods’. “Took me months to find out.”

Records show an entity called “Rocking Horse Irrevocable Trust” purchased two adjacent 5-acre properties near the Intracoastal, just north of Jupiter’s city limits, on Dec. 20.

One went for $1.1 million and the other for $1.3 million.

The trustee listed on the deeds is Chris Hubman. He’s none other than the CFO of Woods’ company, ETW Corp.

A phone message left at Hubman’s office in Orlando wasn’t returned.

There is no word yet on the value of the new home.

In 2006, Woods – whose official address is still Windermere, near Orlando – spent more than $45 million on four adjacent properties on Jupiter Island. He had the existing homes leveled and is building a strange-looking 9,700-square-foot crib in the middle of 12 tropical beach-front acres.

His most recent purchases, just a few miles southwest as the crow flies, are in what used to be Jupiter’s wooded horse country. Here, the landscape is dotted with “ranchettes” on 5 acres each, and separated by abandoned horse trails.

Contractors have demolished one of the existing houses and cleared the land, and they’re using the other as an office.

A permit for an 8-foot wall was issued in November, but construction on mamma Woods’ place has yet to start.

A small Thai-born woman of 62, Tida Woods has often been at her son’s side during tournaments. She lost her husband, Earl, in 2006.

“I hope she’ll bring me cookies,” said Sutcliffe. “From my second floor window, I’ll be able to watch her and the grandkids play.”

Tiger is a role model for the successful sports/entertainment athlete. Tiger gives back, and gives back big. Someday maybe, I will pull up next to him at a traffic light and just say thanks. Thats all, just thanks. Palm Beachers take note, Tiger wanted nothing to do with your “Island Attitude”. I think Tiger has more class in his little finger then you can find on all of Ocean Drive. Go Tiger!

Michael, I grew up in B’ville. Good for you, great town and I know that that condo was not inexpensive. They raised a good son, I’m sure they are and certainly should be proud. They also must be good people. All the best.

Living in CA but a NY lover forever.

What the h&ll does she need a 22000 sq ft house for. I know he has money, but good lord, can you say excessive opulence.

Tiger is a good son to his mother. Tiger misses his dad. That family unit was interesting and fun to watch. Let’s be happy for Mrs. Woods. If Tiger had built a 2000 SQ Foot home most would be calling him cheap. Tiger didn’t steal his money, nor did he inherit it. He got it the old fashioned way–he earned it! Go Tiger.

[...] Poll: Is Tiger taking himself too seriously? Posted by Jose Lambiet | Cribs, Polls | Friday 21 November 2008 12:04 pm It took nearly a year for word to leak out that Tiger Woods is building his momma a 22,000-square-foot home near Jupiter. I’m told he makes everyone on the project, from architects to truck drivers, sign a confidentiality agreement that could get workers fired for talking about it.
