Seems that statewide GOP boss Jim Greer found a sugar mommy.
Greer, who’s under fire for his handling of party finances, attended Saturday night’s March of Dimes shindig at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.
He didn’t pay for the $600 tickets for himself and his wife, Lisa, according to an insider at the nonprofit.
So, who ponied up $1,200?
Carole Rome, the soon-to-be first lady of Florida, that’s who!
Rome, a multi-millionaire part owner of a successful novelty and costume business near NYC, is set to marry Gov. Charlie Crist Friday in St. Petersburg.
“Carole bought four tickets,” said the insider. “Two for herself and the governor, and two for Jim Greer. She’s been a great supporter of our cause.
“But even the governor had a proper ticket. No one comes to this event without paying, somehow.”
The governor’s office didn’t comment on why Rome would pay for Greer and his wife, but state GOP spokeswoman Katie Gordon said there was nothing hinky about it.
“The Greers and the governor and Carole Rome are excellent friends,” said Gordon. “They were there in a social setting.”
Greer recently has been a fixture at South Florida society shindigs that Crist also happens to attend.
In early November, he sat next to Page2Live at the Make-a-Wish wingding in Miami, at the table near the governor and celebutante Kim Kardashian.
I’m told Greer didn’t pay there, either. No one did. But then, he didn’t eat the lobster and steak dinner.
At the March of Dimes, meanwhile, Greer and his lady seemed to enjoy themselves. At one point, he went up to Crist, who gave him a long man-hug of approval.
Yet, his numerous critics say the luxury-loving Greer has a knack for finding someone else to pay for some of his bills. At times, it’s the Republicans.
Last summer, Greer presented a $5,100 reimbursement slip for a weekend at The Breakers. It included spa treatment and a $3,600 dinner. He already said it was a mistake and that he’d pay the GOP back.
Greer, by the way, is up for re-election.
How can Greer think it is only just “a mistake” to rack-up over $5,100 at the Breakers, Palm Beach – a five-star resort and then after the fact ‘repay the Republicans?’ Does he really think the donors are that stupid? Greer knew all along what he was doing, no doubt! He was just trying to see what he can get away with and then once caught, had to cover his tracks! Not only is he another crooked politician, he is obviously a liar and can no longer be trusted to represent us Republicans. Greer should be removed from his post – effective immediately!
Just one more REPUBLICAN DOING THE DEED..LOOK AT THIS COUNTRY NOW FROM FOUR YRS OF bush and that mess of crooks..now this no good free loader is cashing in at so many of these affairs.. hey stupid charlie wake up..if you can,you are one confusing guy to say the least..it figures tho.. ten four.. over and out.. and go under in this case..
I just havto leave a P.S. yes I do believe he should get canned for sure.. no doubt in any of our minds. Like prez.Obama elect says.. nobody is above the law and this guy has the nerve to see what he can get away with and his frds. He gives politics a dirty name 100%
And Joan, let’s certainly hope that President-elect Obama remembers that HE is certainly not above the law either, given the scandalous situation with the DEMOCRATIC Illinois governor (notice the press never refers to his political party because he is a DEMOCRAT). Just seems funny to me that everyone Obama knows is of questionable character, and I mean EVERYONE. So, let’s hope he remembers that when it comes to him too, okay??
