The rebirth of the legendary Palm Beach lounge 251 Sunrise was celebrated by more than 700 people packed like sardines but partying until this morning.

The crowd, including captains of industry, TV personalities, socialites, wannabes, neverweres, poseurs and tremendously gorgeous people, highlighted the need for such a place on The Island, where one of the only pleasures seems to be stiff black-tie fiestas in gilded hotel ballrooms.

The redesigned 251 Sunrise offers more of a Miami Beach look than when it shut down amid a neighborhood noise dispute in 2004. If you believe co-owner Gus Renny, who was also the original’s proprietor, the place is so soundproof  that even a bat wouldn’t hear the music from the sidewalk.

In the crowd: Skid Row drummer Rob Affuso; KOOL afternoon jock Tim Byrd; WPTV-Channel 5 personalities  Glenn GlazerJames Wieland, Jay Cashmere and Marci Gonzalez; philanthropist John Scarpa; and New York Post gossip Richard Johnson. The latter seemed to mind his Ps and Qs since his much-younger wife, Palm Beach product Sessa Von Richthofen, kept count of the shots of Belvedere he downed. She annoyingly stuck seven of her fingers in his face after he served himself again. I figured it was time to leave.

The opening was nice. But couldn’t hold a candle to the old 251 Sunrise! Where were the real celebrities and the real glamour?

Which lead me to ask; who is Gus Renny? A guy pretending to have been apart, no trying to take credit for something that he had nothing to do with …. Does the Island doesn’t need another poser!

I must say the reopening of 251 has been long overdue. It is the right venue at the right time. It is great to see the young owners taking a chance in this economy to give Palm Beach a much needed option. I will continue to support 251 as long as they continue to support us. Congrats guys you have done a great job. They made it through the grand opening lets see what they have in store for us next.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Tim Martin… You’re rather crass… Gustave Renny is very well known in his industry… he has owned many successful hotels, restaurants, and clubs. He is also very well respected and very well liked. Celebrities and Glamour???? Is that what makes a club successful? Of course it creates buzz… but then again it attracts losers like yourself that want to act and behave as if they are somebody… who is the poser? Or is it Hater?

    FACTS:

    1) Gus Renny real name is Gus Zurak. Why does he go by different names. The Courts know him by Gus Zurak.

    2) He is not was not an original’s proprietor, of 251! Or Liquid. No name on any Liquor Licenses. He managed 251 while it was going down in flames. Yeah take credit for that.

Am I an hater. No. I simply think the guy shouldn’t take credit for other peoples work! Come up with an original name.

True Palm Beachers know the true story. And you will find us all at Michael McCarty’s laughing at the pretenders. http://michaelrmccartyspalmbeach.com

Gus Renny does not even have his own credit card, he’s a poser. He ran a mortgage company and a few other ventures straight into the ground, just check the record.
