West Palm Beach liberal radio screamer Randi Rhodes has found herself a new job.

randiAnd you won’t believe where!

In the house that Rush Limbaugh built, that’s where!

The raspy-voiced Rhodes just signed on with the Premiere Radio Networks, home of the Hard Right’s Dr. Laura, Glenn Beck, Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

Strange bedfellows? You bet. Ratings for Rhodes’ lefty rantings actually will benefit from the huge numbers that Palm Beach’s Limbaugh garners. She signs on for her three-hour show immediately as Limbaugh signs off, at 3 p.m. on work days. She starts May 11.

Is the D.C. chatter about bringing back the Fairness Doctrine and truly balanced programs having Premiere honchos quake in their boots?

Former baseball superstar slugger Jose Canseco will fall hard.

In a sense, he already has.

Canseco, who’s now as well known for the book that blew the lid off baseball’s dirty little steroid secrets as for his towering homers, is scheduled to get in the boxing ring for a three-round bout June 27 in Fort Lauderdale.

In a tabloid twist, some of the proceeds of the evening of boxing will go to the John Graziano Foundation, a foundation for a Tampa man seriously injured in a 2007 accident with wrestler Hulk Hogan’s son.

No venue’s been picked yet, but chances are Canseco’ll fight someone off the street.

Well, this being Florida, it’s someone off the mall!

Promoters will be accepting $50 applications to fight Canseco at the Dadeland Mall near Miami noon at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Hear that, Mark McGwire? No need to remind you that Canseco wrote he injected you personally with ‘roids! (Read more…)

Smokey and the students

Jupiter big screen legend Burt Reynolds ventured south this morning to distill some of his hard-earned wisdom to local students who won the Palm Beach International Film Festival’s student showcase.

Every year the festival, which ended Monday, rewards two college and high schoolers who produce their own films with $5,000-grants, a prize aptly named Burt Reynolds Scholarship. It was the first time in 14 years that Reynolds was able to attend and hand winners Savannah Winchester, who goes to West Palm Beach’s Dreyfoos School for the Arts, and Kristen Harding, of Spanish River High in Boca, their dough.

“We just got lucky he was in town,” said Palm Beach County Film Commish Chuck Eldred

Speaking in a hushed tone, Reynolds told the students gathered at Palm Beach Community College that the great Spencer Tracy once told him: ”Never let anybody catch you acting, always look natural!”

Festival chair Yvonne Boice managed to ambush the 73-year-old star of Boogie Nights and The Longest Yard, and made him swear, cross his heart, that he’ll be one of the celebrity guests at next year’s festival.

D. Wade a baby daddy? Not quite, Gabrielle Union

No wonder Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade seems distracted at times this playoff season.

Rumors that his paramour, actress Gabrielle Union, recently was or currently is expecting his lovechild have been dogging Wade – this, as he fights through a nasty divorce with his high school sweetheart.

While Union, 36, denied it on a black entertainment website – “I love my margaritas too much,” she said – I’m told Wade’s soon-to-be-ex wife, Siohvaughn, went ballistic when Wade, 26, told her about the new baby. Especially since Siohvaughn accused the NBA’s top scorer in court documents of not taking care of the two rug rats they have together.

Siohvaughn told one of Olympic hero Wade’s former business partners in Fort Lauderdale that she was convinced Union was with child. Siohvaughn, who isn’t talking directly with the press after Wade filed a lawsuit in their hometown of Chicago demanding that she keep her mouth shut, also said Wade later claimed the pregnancy announcement was an “april fool’s joke.”

A well-known West Palm Beach business owner died in a freak horse-riding accident while training at Wellington’s famed Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

Serena and Turgut Kaytmaz

Serena and Turgut Kaytmaz

Serena Bostwick Kaytmaz, 46, who grew up in Palm Beach, was pronounced dead shortly after being Medevac-ed to Delray Medical Center Friday afternoon.

Kaytmaz was the owner, along with her husband of 15 years, Turgut Kaytmaz, of Café Centro, an eatery in the Northwood section of WPB that’s becoming increasingly popular among Palm Beachers.

Her death provides a strange and tragic exclamation point on a particularly sad horse season in Wellington.

In February, polo player Tracey Mactaggart passed away from the injuries she suffered when her horse stumbled and rolled over her during in match. And last week, 21 polo ponies died, possibly from a tainted batch of vitamins, before one of the year’s biggest matches.

But the accident that took Kaytmaz was just as unusual. (Read more…)

Before he’s in, Mark Foley could be out!

There were some faces that movies goers know well at the 14th annual Palm Beach International Film Festival in Boca Raton, even if the chatter involved someone who wasn’t there.

You couldn’t miss reed-tall James Cromwell, who once starred alongside a pig in Babe. Or Christine Baranski, who sang Abba’s Does Your Mother Know in Mama Mia!

Or even teenage sensation AnnaSophia Robb, a fave with elementary schoolers since her roles in Bridge to Terabithia and the more recent Race to Witch Mountain.

It’s someone who didn’t show, however, who fueled the tableside talk: Former U.S. Congressman Mark Foley.

Foley, who emerged from a self-imposed media exile after his blue text messages to male pages forced him to resign, has been rumored to be taking over as chair of the film festival later this year.

A month ago, current chair Yvonne Boice was adamant that she’d be stepping down before the summer and pushed Foley on the forefront.

She’s changed her tune. (Read more…)

La Lopez’ appearance near Miami Saturday had tongues wagging.

Big screen and music star Jennifer Lopez looked to have either a bun in the oven or eaten too many of those. But she graciously helped send off participants to the March of Dimes’ March for Babies on Key Biscayne.

Young star shines at the Palm Beach Film Festival

The 14th Palm Beach International Film Festival gala brought a slew of well-known actors to the Boca Raton Resort Friday night, including up-and-coming teen actress AnnaSophia Robb.

AnnaSophia Robb

AnnaSophia Robb

In a festival that prides itself in being unpretentious, the golden-haired 15-year-old star of Bridge To Terabithia and Race to Witch Mountain shined as the anti-Hollywood starlet.

When asked how long she’d be in town, Robb matter-of-factly said she’s leaving Sunday night so she can make her high school classes in Denver Monday.

Hear that, Tara Reid, Lindsay Lohan and Michelle Rodriguez? This young ‘un, who already has worked with the likes of Jeff Daniels  (Because of Winn-Dixie), Johnny Depp (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Dwayne Johnson (Witch Mountain) actually has her feet firmly planted on mother earth.

“It’s probably because  I have a great family and I’m well surrounded,” Robb told me. “My parents are both here and one of them is always with me whenever I travel. And then my love for acting keeps me in line, too.”

Happy ending: dumb sex legislation withdrawn

They must not have enough to do in Brandon, Fla.

State Rep. Rachel Burgin, a Republican (of course, one would be tempted to say) who represents the Tampa area bedroom community, wants to ban advertising that hints at happy endings in massage parlors, reports postonpolitics.com.

px00056_9Yep. In the middle of a historic free fall, someone actually spent time on this.

Burgin wrote in her amendment 72 words or phrases that, if used in massage ads, could make the ads illegal. The list includes: double delight; our models have health certificates; it’s legal in Florida; maid service; fox hunting; fox hole; show guys; two for one; showers; special services; spicy; open 24 hours for you pleasure; we deliver the goods; swingers; call us and make your point; etc . . .

Good thing Burgin withdrew the amendment, saying it “needs work.”  And what, pray tell, is fox hunting, other than killing a helpless dog lookalike?
