Page2live has just received this email that disgraced former Palm Beach County Commissioner Mary McCarty’s sister, Julie, sent to McCarty followers.

Mary McCarty's jail booking mug from this month.

Mary McCarty's jail booking mug from this month.

Apparently, poor Mary is cold and hungry in the county jail. She is also missing her family and friends, making collect calls and bemoaning not being able to spend her 29th wedding anniversary with husband Kevin.

Here is the e-mail word for word:

“Hi Everyone,

This is Mary’s sister, Julie. Mary asked that I send you this message on her behalf:

I’m still at the PBC Jail. It is very cold and the food is unrecognizable…so the good news is I am drinking a lot of water and losing a lot of weight. I am in solitary so I can only leave my frozen cell one hour a day. I spend that one hour making collect phone calls mostly to my family.

The guards are very professional but kind. This whole thing has thrown me for a loop. Today is my 29th wedding anniversary to Kevin. I am looking forward to spending it with him when this nightmare is behind us. I am very sorry that I couldn’t say goodbye or see you before my 42 month sentence began but the Judge apparently thought this was the best course of action.

Take care and I will be in touch. Mary”

It is expected that Mary will be moving tomorrow down to Miami where she could be held from 2-6 weeks. Once she officially moves, I will send everyone her new address. Please don’t send any more cards to the Palm Beach County Jail since they will not forward her mail to her. By the way, she was greeted this morning with a ton of cards and well wishes…it really brightened up her day.

Thanks again for all your support and love that has been shown towards Mary!”

Julie

GIVE ME A BREAK MARY AND NOW JULIE, FLOWERS SENT TO THE JAIL? COLD AND HUNGRY? GET USED TO 3 1/2 YEARS OF IT. YOU DESERVE IT.

  2. Comment by Ed — June 10, 2009 @ 12:00 pm

Oh poor, poor Mary. Why in the heck is getting free AC. Let her suffer like most taxpayers who have to shut of their AC to pay their property taxes, gas taxes, sales taxes, Fire taxes… She gets no sympathy from me.

  3. Comment by Orlando — June 10, 2009 @ 12:07 pm

First of all, I think that the sentence handed to Mary is too much. I never knew her. Only that she was a commissioner. I did read that she was hard on others who also fell short of their public obligations so I guess now it’s case of “let him who is without sin cast the first stone.” I don’t think it was right to publicly put someone down when they fell because now she is also a part of that group. Having said that, I think regardles of how she used to judge people, I don’t think that her crimes were worthy of her sentence. Hopefully, she can learn from this experience and be stronger when it’s over. I pray for her strength during this time.

Gee lady my heart bleeds!!! you should’ve thought about all the personal inconveniences when you were doing wrong.

  5. Comment by BrendaStarr — June 10, 2009 @ 12:15 pm

HA! Wait until her friends and relatives get the phone bill for those “collect” calls.

  6. Comment by Steve Maduri — June 10, 2009 @ 12:31 pm

Mary, if you’re cold, just be asked to stay in general population, there will be a ton of girls that would love to keep you warm, all you have to do is buy them stuff from the canteen. :)

  7. Comment by Tim — June 10, 2009 @ 12:32 pm

Your right the sentence was wrong -iy shoulda been 10 years-she’s a thief

  8. Comment by What? — June 10, 2009 @ 12:33 pm

    What?

A cold cell in Palm Beach in June?

    Turn off the air conditioning!

This is some kind of publicity stunt……to try and generate sympathy for this person.

  9. Comment by Tom — June 10, 2009 @ 12:33 pm

This is the result of the 18 year fiefdom of ’service to the county’!

  10. Comment by Jake — June 10, 2009 @ 12:46 pm

Little Mrs. Piggy Greedy, got exactly what she deserved, the only thing is that the sentence should have been much longer.

If any of you have ever tried to do business with the City of West Palm Beach OR Palm Beach County, you learn very quickly how “the system” works. If you’re in the greased pocket, you can do business. If you’re on the outside, you’re not only turned away but they go out of your way to make sure your agenda is not the one served. I once sat with Newell in a meeting regarding a project and it was very clear, those who greased the palms got their way. The rest of us were kicked to the sidewalk.

  12. Comment by Vger — June 10, 2009 @ 1:00 pm

Oh please! Jail isn’t intended to be a resort vacation. You’re not supposed to be COMFORTABLE! It’s supposed to make you realize that you never want to go that route again that got you there in the first place.

And, if Mary’s dropping weight already after a few days behind bars, it only validates the fact that she’s been gorging herself over the years on whatever she can get her hands on (illegal perks from developers).

    No pity here.

  13. Comment by charlie — June 10, 2009 @ 1:04 pm

    wow!She looks better with make-up.

  14. Comment by shaner — June 10, 2009 @ 1:05 pm

If she was well feed and not cold that would be unfair to the rest of the jail.

  15. Comment by Snoopy — June 10, 2009 @ 1:07 pm

Ms. McCarty, it’s about time you realize that you’re not better than anyone else. Nor, are you entitled to special treatment. You committed a serious crime and were caught. Mere mortals who do so go to a place with crappy food and uncomfortable surroundings. It’s called jail.

By the way, I find it amusing you have a mailing list with supporters who want to follow your “rehabilitation”. Some people are lemmings.

  16. Comment by Suzie — June 10, 2009 @ 1:08 pm

I’m laughing so hard right now I am about to fall off my chair. That thieving woman is complaining. She ripped off all us taxpayers and now she’s complaining. She should have got at least 10 years in jail. And did I read someone was sending her flowers? And yes, cut the air conditioning off. Gas is so high I have to ride in my new economical car with no A/C because gas is so high and I can barely pay my rent, taxes and insurance on my tiny, tiny house. Oh my god, this is too funny. She got exactly what she deserved, next we need to get all the swindlers who greased palms and made money when they were thiefs and get them all in jail.

  17. Comment by no justice jus us — June 10, 2009 @ 1:15 pm

3 yrs to a person that held the trust of the people of this county at bay..we as citizens need to start doing something about this kind of unjustice, yet in this county a man can recieve more time in prison for stealing turtle eggs than a person that did such an greedy thing as this nasty coldhearted person,if you have listened to some of the comments she made ,this was her and kevins world .these people screw the people of palm beach county without the ky jelly and these judges should be ashamed…no justice in this county it jus us ,if you cant affored richard lubin bye bye birdie,if you can you will be okay just ask mary and kelvin ..drive with no license or steal turtle eggs you are doomed, steal from the people of this county you get to go to the country club of your choice with early release…the whole justice system of pbc is flawed..

  18. Comment by Suzie — June 10, 2009 @ 1:16 pm

Oh No, I just scrolled back in the article, number #1, I can not believe her sister published that e-mail from Mary. Who cares about her, she’s a thief and she took from all of us, and didn’t her husband Kevin make out like a bandit too??? He should be in the cell next to her so they can spend their anniversary together….Julie, make sure when you go out you wear a bag over your head for that e-mail you published. What a joke!! I certainly hope she doesn’t get out any earlier than her sentence. Wonder what job she’s going to get when she gets out? That will be really funny to hear. Got to keep up on that in 3 years. Maybe her a Bernie Madoff can make friends and exercise out in the yard together. Her losing a few pounds really wouldn’t hurt her. She needed it. CUT THE AIR CONDITIONING OFF, WE’RE PAYING FOR IT!!!

  19. Comment by Gretchen — June 10, 2009 @ 1:19 pm

Do any of her friends know the meaning of the words liar, thief, crooked, greedy? Do they not feel that she committed a crime(s)? If it were someone else, they would be condemning them, Mary included. She got way to familiar with her position of 18 years, took advanage of it, got greedy and now she is paying for it.

  20. Comment by Keri — June 10, 2009 @ 1:25 pm

These comments are great - maybe her sister wants to print and send them to Mary as a show of the impact (lack of!) that her ’suffering’ is having on the public. Jail is supposed to be an unpleasant experience.

  21. Comment by bernie — June 10, 2009 @ 1:26 pm

they keep the ac so cold to reduce bacteria, i have spent some time in the palm beach jail, i also have spent some time in front of the county commisionors, both are similar, the guards, or commisionors are in charge, except the guards were pretty polite, and the commisionors treated you like dirt. so i took my marbles($200k a year in property tax), and left,

  22. Comment by John — June 10, 2009 @ 1:28 pm

Hey, you’re in jail for a reason. What did you expect, The Breakers? You get what you deserve crook!

  23. Comment by Net Admin III — June 10, 2009 @ 1:28 pm

Now that is a great piece of newspaper work, having been in the PBC county jail I could relate to how awful it truly is. The realism was like I was there all over again. Regarding whether or not she should have better treatment in jail is a rhetorical. Not smart or even worthy of an answer!

  24. Comment by Palm Beacher — June 10, 2009 @ 1:40 pm

No sympathy here. She should have gotten more time. She stole from all us hard working, law abiding tax payers and then hard the gull to snub her nose at us like she was better. She is exactly where she belongs, in fact, she should be put in general population with the rest of the scum of the earth. Pleasant dreams Mary!!!!!

  25. Comment by Cecilia Thoresen — June 10, 2009 @ 1:41 pm

What a deal, made enough money from taxpayers to live well after she is out, and on top of that she is loosing weight, why she will come out of jail looking great. I hear they have an excellent workout program, keep that body fit and trim. I guess crime does pay. Miss Mary you deserve what you got, a couple of more years would have made me happy.

  26. Comment by lee — June 10, 2009 @ 2:02 pm

Why are people sending her cards? I don’t get it. Maybe it’s because these people benefited from her or were accomplices to her many schemes, and so they don’t want her to rat them out. Maybe the Post should investigate who is communicating with her. I bet some of these people (probably most) belong in jail also.

  27. Comment by Lamont Crenshaw — June 10, 2009 @ 2:04 pm

When will the corruption end? If the commissioner had not been caught would it be business as usual? Palm Beach County has a long history of corruption by elected officials and people in positions of public trust. Pay to play; the abnormal has become the norm. A public official that violates the public trust by stealing to enrich themselves is a serious crime. The Palm Beach County jail is humane. A federal prison will be like a resort where she can diet, exercise, get “therapy” and even write a book. Any public official convicted of violating the public trust to enrich themselves needs to be required to pay back any money or material gain. The political culture of Palm Beach County needs to be corrected. Unfortunately the ethical standards are such that as long as the money is flowing the corruption will continue. That can of explains why there is such object poverty for those who are not able to pay to play. Her friends who she helped enrich themselves will take care of her when is she is released.

  28. Comment by No Sympathy — June 10, 2009 @ 2:13 pm

Why is she in solitary? Did she already do a criminal act in jail? Liar comes to mind…I don’t think she would be in solitary unless she already has acted up while in jail. The whole thing has thrown her into a loop? Well, she was smiling the day she went to the courthouse…obviously that smile has been wiped off.

  29. Comment by Ed — June 10, 2009 @ 2:16 pm

Time out I missed something. Since when do convicts have access to the internet and email? When I was with the prison system all communication was monitored. Are we now paying for the Sheriff to monitor convict’s emails, just “special” ones.

  30. Comment by lee — June 10, 2009 @ 2:25 pm

“Her friends who she helped enrich themselves will take care of her when is she is released.”

Sadly, that’s exactly what will happen. :(

  31. Comment by Susan Halliday — June 10, 2009 @ 2:57 pm

I can’t wait to see what Mary and Tony will do when they get out! She put on quite a show when she used to berate Tony. She was so happy when he got in trouble. They hated each other but guess what, they are just alike. I hope she enjoyed her “free” resort stay. Bet she wishes she’d paid for it now. She should remember the old saying, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” I don’t care that she’s cold and the food is “unrecognizable”. There are lots of hungry people who would enjoy having 3 daily meals. She needs to zip it up and get over herself. No one cares that she can’t spend her 29th anniversary with Kevin. Guess what? She’ll be away on their 30th too! There are a lot of people in PBC who are cutting down or doing without. We are not feeling sorry for her. Does she not realize what the word “RECLUSE” means? She needed to recluse herself from all those votes that helped Kevin. Wonder what he’ll do when he gets out wayyyyyyyy before her?

  32. Comment by Debbie — June 10, 2009 @ 3:17 pm

Poor Mary. In county jail, solitary, cold and hungry awaiting transport to your new bed at, unfortunately a “CLUB FED”. You’ll be fine there, makes lots of girlfriends and maybe you can knit a shawl to keep warm like Martha Stewart did.

  33. Comment by Ship — June 10, 2009 @ 3:38 pm

    Poor Mary…

If she’s good, maybe when she get’s out Bishop Hill will let her stay at the Westgate Shelter…Remember when you testified at that trial Mary??? I was there!!!
    Have a nice vacation!

  34. Comment by jerry — June 10, 2009 @ 3:48 pm

Mary, stay in jail, do your time, learn your lesson, reimburse those you stole from, mortgage your home if you need to. Lesson learned: you’ll never serve in public office again. good riddens!

  35. Comment by Kevin — June 10, 2009 @ 4:54 pm

So many HATERS out there!! First there was NOT a reason for MM to be remanded as she was — ALL “white Collar” are allowed to DIRECT SURRENDER…. that was harsh treatment and uncalled for…

The reason MM is in “PC” all alone is for her own security — Its better for her…. Yes, they keep the jail COLD! Very Cold — Have the guards get her a sweat shirt or buy one at commissary.

Once she is officially in Federal custody things will get better — Especially once at her final destination… The next 30-60 days will be crazy…

Wish you well and STAY STRONG! You will survive!

    Be well!!

  36. Comment by JimC — June 10, 2009 @ 5:29 pm

Obviously most of the posters know nothing about the jail or prison system and then when they do get some information they don’t understand it. All jails are kept as cool as meat lockers- the belief is that keeping it cold keeps fights to a minimum and also keeps the bug level down. Being a “celebrity” is why she’s in a single cell- if someone injured her there would be a huge lawsuit that the Sheriff would lose.
Since the Sheriff really has no moey- kind of like insurance companies- if he loses taxpayers lose.
Once she gets to prison things change- at least if she goes to a state prison- inmates don’t have AC except for some privately owned prisons- so she’ll be complaining about the heat there. Food in jail or prison is bad. Some people do gain weight but it’s because they have nothing to do all day and much of the food is bad carbs. She does not have access to a computer or e-mail. A graduate of some Florida school
showed a lack of reading comprehension- the story said her sister sent the e-mail to her friends- her sister received the info in a letter from the jail.

Boy, did she ever give Tony Masilotti heck back in the day. Hmm… how bout that, Mary? You were no better than him the whole time. Keep in mind that when you point a finger at someone, there are three pointing back at yooou.

    Peace, don’t drop the soap.

  38. Comment by Rik — June 10, 2009 @ 6:12 pm

Lighten up people. She isn’t any more of a criminal than every politician that we have in this god awful state that we live in, or half of the politicians across the country.

Heartless people! Hope none of you or family expreience the Justice System!

    Haters —

  40. Comment by Louise — June 10, 2009 @ 7:21 pm

Poor Mary - hey, maybe you will lose some weight, which would be a plus.

Do I feel sorry for you? No, not at all. In fact, I think you should have gotten 10 years.

Probably, Kevin will celebrate your anniversary with “friends,” if you know what I mean. Doubt he will miss you. TTFN!!! Hope you rot in that cell.

  41. Comment by Louise — June 10, 2009 @ 7:25 pm

I have an idea - maybe Karen Marcus will bring you some sweats since she is sweating it out at the moment!

I will soon read that you ratted on her, got less time, and she will be the next one!

Mary, dream of lobster, steak, Sushi, desserts - all of those things that you just LOVE. Dream is all you can do at the moment!! I’m so glad you’re in jail - you deserve to be there.

  42. Comment by ConcernedPBCcitizen — June 10, 2009 @ 8:13 pm

Cold? Someone needs to stop wasting our electricity and turn off the A/C in the jail. It shouldn’t be cold in there!

  43. Comment by clematisguy — June 10, 2009 @ 8:33 pm

You know what- you all kept voting for her- big effing deal she took a hotel stay from developers- give her a big fine and call it a day- I agree she was a little too big for her britches and could be nasty, she voided our trust in her– That is why we vote- we could have voted her out- she is already disgraced and will never be able to run for public office again-
There are bigger criminals in PBC- thieves and murders who get less time for their crimes- Some b@stard has broken into my car 3 times- I would rather see that P®ick in prison for life.
Everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and string her up-
Three years is too much for her crime-

  44. Comment by Christine — June 10, 2009 @ 11:18 pm

I like the comments about the guards, “Professional but kind”, written like a job review. Does she still think she has a job with PBC?

  45. Comment by Ed — June 10, 2009 @ 11:47 pm

I wonder if these posts can be sent to the Queen of Corrupt. Maybe she would see what the “common” people of PBC really think of her. If it were me I would make my summer home in Maine my permanent home. I hope she gets a new vision of “Hi Girl friend”, I bet she will be licking her lips.

  46. Comment by susan — June 11, 2009 @ 1:00 am

She’s trying to deflect attention from her and her Gal-Pal….B-Meister and The Pompano-WPB CRA “Team Work”…maybe.

Isn’t former Mayor N. Graham and Lois’ former Galpal…being prosecuted for corruption type stuff after Related sent her to CA?

Chek out these allegations on another story on this site.

By I have observed the relationships and they stink

    Jun 11, 2009 2:09 AM | Link to this

At a CRA meeting in 2004 Frankel announced that pending Ray Liberti’s approval she would announce the hiring of a phenominal redevelopment director. This is the same Ray Liberti that was convicted and served time for being a crook. This is also the same Ray Liberti who was lobbying for a developer in Boynton Beach while Kim Briesemeister (during her watch as West Palm Beach CRA Director ) asked the then Boynton Beach CRA Director to give her a personal tour of investment opportunities in the Boynton CRA district for her own investment agenda. Do you think maybe there is a connection between RAY and KIM? Come on FEDS she is a crook. At the same time she & Mark (a federa INS middle manager)purchased multi million dollar water front properties in Light House Point. She flipped one of the properties to Silva Relocation Co. (for a profit) but she and Mark B. have not been relocated. Rumor has it that the Related Group (back to the Northwood connection) purchased the property from the Relocation Property for less than the Relo Co paid for it. How perfect, Related must do relo business all the time with Silva. Kim (and partners) and her Related Group connection have quite the gig going. No you surely do not need educational credentials to be dishonest, which leads to the overiding issue of why FRANKEL is wrong in not firing Kim for lying about her credentials. It is public record that she lied about her credentials. Why are credentials important? In most professional fields it is about ethics. Anyone can ask for her personnel file from the City of WPB, Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood and read the FACTS. She is a liar and unethical.
