Notorious Miami prison now home to McCarty
Disgraced former Palm Beach County Commissioner Mary McCarty has been transferred to a notorious federal prison that once hosted a deposed dictator and would-be dirty bomber.

McCarty's new home
A week after she was sentenced to three-and-a-half years for her role in a public corruption scandal and immediately taken into custody, McCarty, 54, was moved from the Palm Beach County lockup and driven to Miami’s Federal Detention Center.
And if she thought she had it rough on Gun Club Road, (where she bitterly complained about being cold, lonely and being served bad food in an e-mail to friends), wait until she gets a load of this Soviet-looking high-rise smack dab in the middle of downtown!
According to the federal Bureau of Prisons, the Miami FDC is an administrative facility. And ”administrative facilities are institutions with special missions, such as the detention of pretrial offenders; the treatment of inmates with serious or chronic medical problems; or the containment of extremely dangerous, violent, or escape-prone inmates,” according to the BOP website.

Translation: the place’s a dump! And besides the usual gang members and drug kingpins like Colombian cocaine royalty Fabio Ochoa, it also hosted over the years former Panama drug-dealing dictator Manuel Noriega, dirty bomber wannabe Jose Padilla, alleged terrorists known as the Liberty City Six, and former Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne and former West Palm Beach Commissioner Ray Liberti.
The latter — like McCarty accused of misusing their offices — recently rejoined civilian life.
Bad new # 2 for McCarty: This story by Miami New Times about the sexual abuse of female prisoners at the prison!
McCarty’s husband, Kevin, a former South Florida Water Management District board member, is serving time for not reporting her misdeeds 20 miles south, in a minimum security camp adjacent to the Miami Metrozoo.
Mary McCarty has requested to be moved to a similar minimum-security camp in Texas.

From what I read in Jose’s Friday column, Mary McCarty currently has access to the internet, and can make phone calls from her “confinement” for an hour per day……yet poor Mary feels a chill because of, in her expert opinion, too much a/c. Well, since I’ve voted for her in the past, I have to admit that I feel completely betrayed, totally sold out, and personally violated by Mary and her co-conspirator husband……so it will be important for Mary to realize that I do not give two hoots about her personal comfort….or the personal attitudes of her corrections officers.
How is it when uppity (so called political, police, and other goody two shoes) commit crimes, they get to pick and choose and get less time than other criminals, when you commit a crime you do time like everybody else does. Let her go to the same place everybody else that commits similar crimes go to, she deserves no better treatment than the others that committed the same crime. Now being in there with the rapist and other hard criminals is unfair, but she stil needs to do her time like everybody else. She gets to email her family everybody else should get to email there family. She probably still doing her dirty work on the computer.
She Deserves to Rot!!!!!!!!
She deserves prison, do hard time, afforded no liberties because of her previous position, but she should treated as an inmate who has committed a non-violent crime. Even Bernie Madoff will be in better living conditions. Why would they put her with violent inmates. Once again our judicial system at it’s best.
The vengeful attitude of 49% of the voters shows that they are no better than McCarty and far more arrogant. The facts are, there is a penalty to violating the law. However, the state must obey the law in how it treats a convict in prison. There must be no rapes by prison guards, or those guards become criminals themselves. There must be reasonable security to protect prisoners from the violence and abuse of other prisoners. If they are sick, there should be reasonable treatment. If they are cold, they could give them a sweater or a blanket.
As for the self-righteous and arrogant… there will be a day when you will stand before the only true righteous one, the judge of all the earth who sees everything you’ve ever done, has heard everything you’ve ever said and who even knows your every thought. If you are without mercy, you will in NO way receive any mercy from Him.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” From Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
Mary broke the law. Spiritually speaking, she sinned against the community. She has lost her freedom. That’s punishment beyond description. Why the bitter, vengeful comments. What is it in the American experience of justice that demands vicious, lengthy, and degrading punishment? Let one who is without sin cast the first stone! What hypocrisy among the natives.
She is still SCAMMING the system.
The ONLY program the BOP has that offers time off your sentence is the Drug Program.
Her Attorney asked for her to go to it in Texas. He wouldn’t disclose why!
There is no Parole in Federal…You must serve 85% of your time.
So she now PRETENDS she is a substance abuser to SCAM the System.
That is why the Attorney wouldn’t comment..There you go!
She is STILL SCAMMING!
Shame on her…Some People NEVER Learn!
I had the pleasure of sitting next to Ms McCarty at a breakfast meeting one day. All she did was bad mouth each person that got up to speak, chatted through the entire event and looked down her nose at everyone else. She was arrogant, rude and a downright biatch. She deserves what she is getting, having lied and duped the very people that entrusted her with her position.
Where the heck are the good, decent people that run Palm Beach County? Get rid of these crooks and thieves. Clean it up once and for all. I’m embarassed to say I even live here.
Thanks McCarty, Massilotti and all the others.
People in glass houses…
As far as sexual abuse at large Marys new prison diggs, well looking at her before she went in thats probably one thing she wont have to worry about at least from the male guards, now big 250 lbs lezbo Bertha thats a diff. matter.
The Den of Thieves is alive and well my friends.
It’s Colombian, with an O, dear Jose. Jeez!
jack your a retard you have no idea what your talking about obviously you have never been to jail and u deserve to go! i wish i could put all you uptight sissys who belive the harsher the punishment the better in jail just so u can cry like big babies. so for all you people who belive in harsher punishment need to go to jail before you think you can decide whats what cause you dont know!!!!!!!!!!
Mary only got caught for a small fraction of her misdeeds to the community for her own self indulgence over the past 20 years. Her supporters are in the corrupt system that runs so smoothly in Palm Beach County and through out the state. Those that know the truth, are outraged that she took a plea deal, as did Kevin, only for 2 judges to allow lesser sentences. They could of and should of gotten longer time, but prosecutors wanted to save the taxpayers the cost of 2 trials. That money would have been well spent and maybe the public would have truly gotten justice. The truth be known, Kevin and Mary would never see the outside of their cells for many years to come. Leave her in Miami, instead of sending her to the Texas Country Club!
So if I want Mary to do time in a nasty place, some will say I’m will be punished on judgment day! That’s funny! We knew that already - didnt we. Some say that her prison sentence is enough - who’s knows. I can’t judge Mary, a court did that. I had an experience just like Mr. Delray Guy, she’s a bustout with no morals. Mary’s aggrogance and lack of respect for others was appaling. She and hubby tried to get rich - the evil way. They got caught and now are so, so embarrassed. No trips to Maine this summer - must be a hardship. No clambakes, cold beer or melted butter with lobster - oh the heartache. But it probably hurts her most not being able to scam for money, tickets, treats and perks or a life long job that requires nothing of her. She’s a person that will never change. Tough prison time won’t, happy valley detention won’t and we won’t change her. She’s got that monster personality that requires Delray Beach or Palm Beach County to revolve around her needs. If she got 3.5 years or 20, it does’nt matter. If she’s in Gitmo or soft detention, it does’nt matter. What really matters is that 3, count them 1, 2, 3, commissioners went to jail for taking you and me on a ride rather than doing their best to make Palm Beach County a great place to live and work. The County is messed up and no wonder look who’s been running it.
McCarty truly earned the nickname Ms. Piggy during her years at the public trough, and deserved her downfall for betraying us all. But, her crimes were not violent and she should be given the same consideration for incarceration as other “white crime” corrupt commissioners. No more, no less.
Who will fall next? Burt?
Poor Mary! She once made a suggestion that chain link fences be abolished in Palm Beach County. She’s been so out of touch with reality and the working person’s needs, for ages now. Mary’s attitude reminds me of Leona Helmsley, who once said ” Only the little people pay taxes ” Both of these women thought that they were better than the every day people, who they could not have lived without. It sounds to me that Mary has an open contempt for the working class.
Mary, and other Commissioners helped to make Developers wealthy, while raising the cost of living so that many working class people could no longer afford to stay in the County.
I would never wish any physical harm to her, but I hope that when she and her husband re enter civilian life, that they face the same hardships that the everyday working man and woman face… hardships on the working class that THEY helped create, and maintain.
Every Sunday Morning, I wish that I could have Sunday Breakfast with my family…. but people like Mary helped make that impossible, because many people, including me, could no longer afford to live in Palm Beach County.
It’s now a 12 hour drive for me to visit my Family. Maybe Mary and others like her, who’s actions have helped separate people from their families, will begin to understand what kind of pain they have caused so many others.
Society causes these actions, such as greed in this case. However,I believe all non-violent offenders should be handled and housed differenly then violent offenders. Unfortunately, like everything else, prisons have become big business. Non-violent offenders should monitored in the home and perform a lot of community service to learn to give.
Tough place.
She misused her position. Hardly worth being in the Miami FDC. Dante Stallworth killed someone driving drunk, and only got 30 days. Pretty fair system!!!

the worst violation for a public official is DELIBERATE ABUSE OF OFFICE BY VIOLATING PUBLIC TRUST… OATH OF OFFICE. let her serve time.
