Lambiet’s Lunch: Bob Jaffe’s caviar; Jennifer Capriati’s back

Bob and Ellen Jaffe
– Now that the Securities and Exchange Commission is telling us that Palm Beach dandy Bob Jaffe made $150 million by directing $1 billion in business to his friend and Ponzy schemer Bernie Madoff, here’s an interesting vignette from the day Jaffe’s socialite wife, Ellen, heard about Madoff’s collapse. That was back on Dec. 10 and Jaffe, I’m told by a witness, was standing outside a ladies’ luncheon waiting for her car. She was ordering $10,000 worth of caviar for a party at her home two days later. Yep, $10,000 worth fine Russian stuff. Her call-waiting rang and she switched line. On the other end was her hubby Bob, with the big announcement that Madoff was going down. “But,” Ellen was heard blurting, “but, Bob, that’s where all our money is!” Needless to say, she didn’t switch back to the caviar sales person.

Kid Rock
– Rocker Kid Rock’s been hanging in the West Palm Beach area this week. His main purpose is to rehearse for his upcoming tour. He’s been spending hours at the Cruzan, where it actually kicks off Friday. So where else has the Kid popped up so far? Mainly at the mammary Mecca Rachel’s, where he’s been dropping some serious cash. On the joint’s outstanding steak, I’m sure. Lynyrd Skynyrd opens for KR.
– Singer Island hottie Jennifer Capriati, now 33, the former tennis prodigy who shocked observers through the 1990s with her meteoric rise to the top of the professional women’s tour, popped back up this week in New York City. She, and former men’s champ Jim Courier, are involved in a publicity stunt for Wimbledon. They’ve been trading passing-shots with passersby on grass put down for the occasion at Rockefeller Center.

I’ve never been big on adult entertainment, but thank you West Palm Beach for Rachel’s. When I’m visiting your area that’s where I go for a good steak.
This place has to be good for your economy. This column has reported on the various celebs who’ve been there and I’ve seen others myself, especially during spring training.
