Florida GOP pageantry: Carrie Prejean to speak

She was fired as Ms. California, but Florida’s Republicans are telling Carrie Prejean: You’re hired, baby!

The party is bringing the controversial golden-haired beauty queen to Orlando for the GOP’s upcoming state meeting and chi-chi chairman’s gala.

The wingding, on the weekend of August 22, is scheduled to lure party bigs like Gov. Charlie Crist and state Attorney General Bill McCollum to the Gaylord Palms resort.

Prejean’s scheduled to address younger party members (say, in their 30s) about values, said Palm Beach County GOP head Sid Dinerstein.

“I think it was a fine idea for the party to invite her,” Dinerstein said.

He added he “assumes” she’ll be paid for her appearance, but he doesn’t know how much.

“I watched that pageant. She only expressed her mainstream opinion. What was the big deal? And then, she’s been drawing crowds mainly because of the abuse she took for expressing that opinion. We’re glad she’s coming.”

Prejean, 22, caused a media firestorm in April when, during the live broadcast of the Miss USA pageant, she sounded off on same-sex marriage during the judges’ questioning.

You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there,” she said. “But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.”

The response angered gay activists and may have cost her the crown. She was first runner up.

But the controversy didn’t let up for weeks. In public appearances, she then spoke of her Christian faith as she elaborated on her pageant comment.  She was eventually stripped of her California crown after semi-nude pictures surfaced in June.

Now, Prejean is writing a book while she’s becoming a spokeswoman of sorts of the Christian Right.

According to the publisher, the book will tell how Prejean “has been forced to battle the left’s double-standard on free speech and the bias against conservatives — particularly conservative women — who stand up for their beliefs.”

State GOP Chairman Jim Greer didn’t return calls.

Should Florida welcome Carrie Prejean?

Hey Jose, why do you have to slant the question with your hate filled bias? She’s not a hate monger for taking the same exact position as Barack and Michelle Obama. As well as Bill and Hillary Clinton.
And guess what? Carries replacement as Miss California also opposes gay marriage. Where’s the gay mafia now????????

Welcome to Florida Carrie. It’s rediculous that this is even a debate. The girl was asked a question and gave the correct answer. She should be applauded.

    Judy,
Talk about how RIDICULOUS! How embarrassed foolish Republicans should be for creating a football like mentality. Sounds like you played one too many games without a helmet.

Try taking a night class in grammar. I’m sure the Democrats have some social give away program making it free for people like you using my hard earned money.

It’s great that the Florida GOP are giving Carrie a platform. I hope she gets to come to the UK and address the Conservative Party sometime soon.

Carrie was dismissed because she would/could not appear at functions requiring an appearance by the Queen of Cali, so Donald Trump had her fired–and not for any answer she gave during the competition. Remember how he defended her? She did not meet her obligations, and we need a Queen who can be where she needs to be: cutting a ribbon someplace and not appearing on Larry King to mewl about her “mistreatment”. — A Californian
