Save-a-Pet’s Gertrude Maxwell, 98: I’m newlywed!

The lovebirds shortly after they met, June 11 at Taboo in Palm Beach (Special to Page2Live)
Ninety-eight-year-old Palm Beach socialite Gertrude Maxwell finally admitted today that she was secretly hitched to her 95-year-old swain of barely more than a month.
The lucky guy is Trump Plaza resident Sol Hurwitz. Hurwitz ran a lucrative liquor distribution business in Boston.
Save-a-Pet founder Maxwell wouldn’t answer questions because, a spokeswoman said, the couple kept the ceremony details hidden from their own families. But according to their marriage license, obtained in Martin County, they made it legal before a justice-of-the-peace July 13.
But Maxwell put out a statement: “Mrs. Gertrude Maxwell of Palm Beach and Solomon Hurwitz of West Palm Beach warmly share the news of their happy marriage. Having exchanged vows, they’re enjoying the blessings of their promise of love, devotion and commitment to each other as wife and husband.
“There will be a formal celebration in the near future. Congratulatory notes can be sent to P.O. Box 2444, Palm Beach, FL 33480.”
It’s Maxwell’s third venture into holy matrimony. She was married for 64 years to real estate investor Mark Maxwell but divorced him the mid-90s. He died a couple years later.
Then in 2000, Maxwell stunned local society by secretly marrying a 43-year-old producer at WPTV-Channel 5. She was 88. It lasted four months.

Since then, finding a playmate hasn’t been easy for Maxwell. Just last year, a 62-year-old North Florida grifter named Ray Baker Lynn got close by posing as a Pulitzer Prize winner who wanted to write Maxwell’s biography. Palm Beach cops told him to get lost, and he was eventually arrested on a fraud warrant.
A source is telling me Maxwell met Hurwitz at the June 11 meeting of the Worth Avenue Association at Taboo. Sparks must have flown at a high rate of speed. They left the meeting hand-in-hand.
Hurwitz was a widower. His wife, Ruth, died in 2000.

I’d like to be a fly on the wall on their honeymoon!
You go Gertie Girl! He’s much younger, quite the cougar you are.
It’s never too late to find love and companionship when you are open to it, and sometimes when it’s least expected. This darling couple is proof of that. May they be blessed with much happiness!
Now I know there is hope for me—Good Luck my dear…
Good for her…. but now my purient interest has been sparked. Who was the 43 y/o at Channel 5? Please tell (was it Mr. Trash Rogharr himself?)

WOW! How exciting. Congrats to the newlyweds. I guess I’ve lost my dance partner.
Solomon has found the woman he needs. Gertrude is a fortunate woman to have married such a fine gentleman. They were so smart to have kept it a secret, I wish I had done so. Well meaning families can hurt their parents so much when they treat them as children. God Bless you both.
