Panthers’ Zednik pays $1 million to end marriage

Nice payday for the ex-wife of former Florida Panthers hockey star Richard Zednik.

Stunning B-series actress and model Jessica Welch, 30, is set to receive $1 million cash from the player, plus $9,270 a month in support for their five-year-old daughter.
Not bad for a three-year marriage that officially ended today!
“She’s grateful it’s over,” said her lawyer in Boca, Doreen Yaffa.
The couple, whose home is in Delray Beach, settled in a Palm Beach County court amid allegations of domestic violence.
The Slovakia-born Zednik, 33, recently signed with a team in the Russian league and wasn’t available for comment. His lawyer, Dale Sanders, declined comment.
The torn lovebirds met in 2001, when Zednik played for the Montreal Canadians.
Yaffa noted that her client left a good film and television career in Canada when she moved with to Florida with Zednik in 2007.
“She gave up her film career to be his wife,” Yaffa said. “But it was a rocky marriage right from the start.”

Welch, who starred in little known slasher made-for-TV movies or series like Are You Afraid in the Dark? and Number 9, filed for divorce in March. In the paperwork, she alleged physical abuse by Zednik.
At the time, she also asked the court to freeze the puckster’s assets.
“The granting of that order was a key element in fostering an overall settlement and permitting the parties to move on with their lives,” Yaffa said.
Last season, Zednik scored 17 goals and 16 assists for the Panthers. He’s also know for surviving a life-threatening injury during a game in early 2008 in Buffalo, when teammate Olli Jokinen accidentally cut his throat with his skate.
I remember reading about that neck injury; and now in that photo attached to this story, you can see the grisly scar. Wow, it’s amazing that he survived that.
So, is there any truth to the allegations that he beat his wife? Who could bring himself to try to hurt a woman so beautiful? Or was she a total nasty wench? (In that case, though, you break up with her, you don’t beat her.)
At $9,270.00 in support for the child,this child must have needs beyond the rest of us mortals.If this childs needs are that expensive,she needs to tone down that little shopping problem she must be hiding.If any childs needs are that high,that just proves that child support is really for the mother and not the child for which it was intended.No child would ever need that much to live like the rest of the world.Her B-list movie career never took off in the first place.She did much better as a golddigger.It pays to be a goldigger in Florida.The best act money can buy.
To call someone a goldigger without knowing the circumstances is unfair and really tacky, is it not? And to call whatever a former wife gets a good payday is an insult to divorced women everywhere, especially those who give up much for their marriages, and rarely recoup financially or land on their feet.
To get that amount of child support from the family court judges in Palm Beach County is amazing, either that or she had one fantastic attorney. Good for her! Most of us here in good ole PBCo aren’t so lucky. Unfortunately, we’ve been stuck with stupid attorneys and incompetent judges.
If your a man with a child getting divorced in FL, basically your screwed. He must be making a ton of money for her to get that much in child support….

I have met her a few times and though I do not know her personally, she is sweet. $1m may only be a small part of what he is worth so he got off pretty good, and she deserves what the law says. if you don’t like it, change the law.
She tried to do the rounds of the Montreal Canadiens back in the day until one took the bait. Believe me he was not the first one she went after. If he was physically abusive then she definitely did the right thing and 1 million for these guys is nothing. I would place her more on the C list. Her career never really took off and since it has only been three years since she left it, if she feels she has real talent then lets see her get back in the biz.

If you give up your career to be a stay-at-home Mom or wife, isn’t that a personal decision that you make as an adult? She could think of it as a sacrifice she made for the care of her daughter instead of having nannies, an Au Pair, boarding school, whatever… I thought I made a nice salary. Crikey! $9K/month… I hope it all goes to the kid.

Please, gimme a break. She does not even look after her kid, the nanny does. Too bad Richard didn’t get custody. She has been seen lately hanging at the Playboy mansion, dragging her little sister Sarah along(19 years old). Guess she’s looking for another Sugar Daddy and pimping out her sister at the same time!
