Celebrity chef Todd English, from PBS’ Food Trip with Todd English, sampled the table-dancing, fire-eating atmosphere at CityPlace’s Taverna Opa on Thursday night for the loud Greek place’s first anniversary. The 500-plus patrons got a special on their menu: belly dancers.

The West Palm Beach tavern was the latest addition to the growing local chain that started 10 years ago on Hollywood Beach. This birthday bash, by the way, continues tonight and Saturday. Or, as the company’s motto reads, until the ouzo runs out!

Besides the fact that every time I pass this restaurant in City Place….its always empty, I ate here once and the food sucked too. How it was able to survive a year is another story.

What else besides food and drinks do they sell at Opa?

I’m guessing the fact, selling sex is still a gimmick in our neck of the woods……give me good food, good service and a waiter or waitress of substance !!! Something NOT available at City Place !!! I would rather sit home and watch Milk go sour !!

Taverna is terrific… it’s a winner. Can we please get Tod English to open one of his hotspots at CityPlace? FOr my next trick, trying the Carousel place next door.
