Limbaugh, in his West Palm studio

New York agitator Al Sharpton has called for Palm Beacher Rush Limbaugh to resign his membership at the Everglades Club – a private club on The Island with no black members.

And Sharpton threatens to take the fight straight to Palm Beach if Limbaugh digs in.

The Rev this week pounced on the racial overtones of Limbaugh’s interest in buying the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League.

The firebrand conservative radio talker made comments over the years that have been perceived by some as racially divisive. Limbaugh, for example, resigned from his analyst gig on ESPN in 2002 for saying that the black Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb wasn’t as good as a racially conscious media perceived him to be.

For more on this, and the poll, look below or click

And in a sports league where more than 65 percent of the players are black, an anti-Limbaugh groundswell rose, culminating with Wednesday’s announcement that Limbaugh was dropped from the group seeking ownership.

Sharpton, meanwhile, seized the moment to bring Limbaugh’s membership to an all-white club back to the forefront.

The Everglades Club, which once kicked out Kleenex heir Jim Kimberly when he brought in crooner Sammy Davis Jr., is often perceived in these parts as discriminating against non-whites.

Current club president William Pannill disputes that.

“We don’t discriminate,” he said. “You don’t get elected into the club, you get brought in by members for membership. At this point, we have no black members, but there are plenty black guests. Both Rush and I have brought in black guests.

“If they behave, they’re welcome like anyone else.”

Still, Sharpton told a New York daily he wants at least a token gesture from Limbaugh.

“At the very least he should resign — he never should have joined an exclusive club,” Sharpton said. “I may go down to Florida with some brothers and sisters to see if we can have dinner at the Everglades. Guess who’s coming to dinner at the Everglades?”

Limbaugh isn’t commenting except on his show, where he recalled Wednesday Sharpton’s numerous embarrassing failures, including his 2006 support of a black woman who falsely accused the Duke University lacrosse team of rape. But anyone who knows Limbaugh also knows that the Everglades Club should get ready to unfurl the welcome mat for Sharpton.

“Everyone’s welcome,” Pannill said. “And Rush shouldn’t resign his membership. He’s a good member and we like having him.”

Should Rush Limbaugh resign from the all-white Everglades Club?

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not Racist? Gimme a break, it is all right to have All Black organizations but let a CONSERVATIVE WHITE MAN belong to any PRIVATE club and there is out rage from these two mouth pieces..

Sharpie just wants to rub elbows with the rich and famous and soak in some of our fabulous Florida sunshine as it turns cold in the north. Of course he’ll be more than welcome at the Everglades Club. He simply has to find someone willing to have him admitted as a guest. This might prove difficult for Sharpie since he’s so obnoxious and the ultimate race baiter. I hope the public realizes that forcing the NFL to reject Rush as a buyer just took away his first amendment rights. Funny the black football players never noticed Rush’s daily dissertations since his infamous (and quite true) McNab remark until he became party to a possible team franchise purchase. What a bunch of pathetic whiners.

F U Sharpton! Keep your big ass hair and mouth in your church! Who made you the all powerful of who should own what and belong to whatever. Shut the F Up Sharpton. Its also the media’s fault for giving this piece of shit the platform to rant his hate!

Back in the 80’s AL Sharpton was a 400 lb black agitator in the Albany NY area. I’m pretty sure is is a convicted felon. Look up Twana Brawley and see what a circus he made of that.

The Everglades Club is a sad relic from a by-gone era. I dont really care where Rush Limbaugh stuffs his fat face, but really people its 2009, its kind of an embarassment that a community would still have that kind of organization in this day and age. It just demonstrates how backwards and insular a culture Palm Beach is. The whole island is pretty pathetic if you ask me.

“If they behave, they’re welcome like anyone else.”

    Yeah, totally not racist. Pathetic.

At the Everglades Club he does not have to take a drug test. I do not think he can pass the drug test to be a part of the NFL.

Has Sharpton apologized for his role in the Tawanna Brawley hoax yet?

  9. Comment by Big Daddy — October 15, 2009 @ 10:34 am

Wait!!! Everyone has forgotten how Sharpton came down here to Florida to show support for the lady & son that was raped and brutalized in Dunbar Village and denounce that boys involved. Then some weeks later he was back on his soap box clamoring about the injustice to rapists because some boys in Boca Raton had got some girls drunk and took advantage of them (which is also rape). Those boys is Boca, whom happened to be white got bail, while the boys from Dunbar were being denied bail. How quickly he forgot the brutality of those youths in Dunbar Village. He even promised to spend the night in Dunbar to show everyone how safe it was there, then conveniently found a way to get out of that commitment.

Maybe Sharpton can go hang with his buddy Masters, since the Governor is smart enough to stay away from Master. Together they can go incite the people over a non-issue, like the boys from Dunbar getting life without the chance for parole, and say that they only got such a harsh sentence because of the color of their skin. I need a good laugh and that issue is just about Shartpon’s speed and ignorance.

  10. Comment by Ed — October 15, 2009 @ 10:42 am

Rush should resign from the Everglades club as soon as Sharpton cuts his ties with the NAACP, United Negro College Fund and BET and sever his association with the Black Congressional Caucus.

  11. Comment by Keith Cooper — October 15, 2009 @ 10:51 am

May I add my two cents for the record! There are some genuine fools who have responded on this website without thinking through the covert affects of racism. If white only organizations had a policy of including people of color from their inception we would not have “all black” groups today.

Think about it white folks, if the shoe was on the other foot how you might feel being segregated because of the color your skin. Rush Limbaugh is a racist and so is Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, et al. I grew up in Palm Beach County and I can say first hand I have experienced rampant racism in that community.

For all the so called government liberals who say they aren’t racist should immediately ban any club that says “if they (blacks in this case) behave they’re welcome like everyone else” is derogatory to say the least. Somehow it appears that the Everglades Club President believes that ALL BLACK PEOPLE DON’T KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE IN PUBLIC.

Get a grip. Two wrongs does not make it right.

  12. Comment by Paola — October 15, 2009 @ 10:56 am

    Hooray for Al!!!!

No place in today’s world for people who are members of such clubs. That’s what KKK does too!!!

  13. Comment by The Black Resistance — October 15, 2009 @ 10:57 am

I will be glad when the media hold all of these guys to the same standard. They wont because if they measure “Fat” Albert Sharpton based on the standards they hold Rush to, you will find that he and every other liberal are the real racists. Sharpton is nothing but a shake down artist and embarassment to every black person in the world.

  14. Comment by LaQuishaNiqua Jones — October 15, 2009 @ 10:58 am

Rush should resign his membership from the Everglades Club as soon as Sharpton cuts his ties with the NAACP, United Negro College Fund, BET awards, Essence Awards and the Congressional Black Caucus and everyother Pro-Black Group he is associated with. If Rush can afford to buy the Rams, good for him, the players wouldn’t care who owns the team as long as their checks are written. If Rush can afford to be a menber of the Everglades club, good for him, If he can afford to live in an oceanfront mansion on Palm Beach, good for him. Sounds like “Reverend” Al has a case of being green with envy at Rush and his successes.

  16. Comment by BEACHBUM — October 15, 2009 @ 11:14 am

I am always amazed at how people want to tell other poeple how to run their lives! It works both ways on this issue too. Rush’s quarterback controversy in 2002 is only racist to people who only see color when looking at a person. Some white quarterbacks have always had the media “pull” for them (favre is a recent exmaple). If the media likes the quarterbacks personally, it usually shows in the coverage, no matter the color of skin. Rev.Al has done some good things, but he is very inconsistant and NEVER admits when he has said or done something worng.
If blacks want to belong to an all black organization … fine. If whites want to be part of an all white organization …. fine. This is AMERICA you know. Doesn’t mean I have to like or associate with any who belong to such groups.
BTW, I have no Jennifer Ross remarks to go with this topic ….. sorry!

  17. Comment by Melina — October 15, 2009 @ 11:53 am

Why should he resign? He fits right in. Just don’t let him in any NFL Clubs..no place for him there.

  18. Comment by jamesk — October 15, 2009 @ 12:41 pm

I have and will continue to surround myself around people that I like, respect, and want to pattern myself after. I personall don’t like blacks, latins, or asian people. Each one in their genere have their own lingo that just doesn’t appeal to me. Does this make me a racist?? Maybe in your eyes it does, but not to me. See, this is my choice, just as Rush has chosen to be in the Everglades club. What right do the people in this country have to force themselves into our lives just because they are of a specific race??

  20. Comment by The Real Big Daddy — October 15, 2009 @ 12:55 pm

jamesk …. the issue isn’t that you choose whom you wish to be part of your personal circle of friends that makes you a racist. What would make you a racist is if you treat peole differently when you do have to interact with them in society because of their Race, National Origin, Gender, Religion and/or Sexual Orientation. The last 3 are really issues of discrimination, not racism.

    “ALL BLACK” is ok.

    “ALL WHITE” is not ok?

It’s people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis FaraCon, Rev Wright, etc, etc that enable white racism.

“Say it loud, I’m white and I’m proud”
    “It’s a WHITE THING… You wouldn’t understand”

  24. Comment by Tom — October 15, 2009 @ 1:28 pm

The Rush issue is not about Sharpton. The “Rush” issue is about his ego and the manner in which he attracts and incites the bottom feeders of this country!
From the response to this article, it is clear that Rush has a strong following among the non-thinking!

  25. Comment by hedlykarok — October 15, 2009 @ 1:28 pm

Jamesk, are you a racist? Do poor, southern, white people with a thick drawl and 18 kids irritate you also? How about white suburban kids who wear baggy pants and caps on sideways? No? Then, yes you are a racist.
Racism is so stupid, there’s enough reason to hate people on an individual level.
And I love the comment in the article: “If they behave, they’re welcome like anyone else.”
If they say ‘yes, sah’ and ‘no, sah’ , I suppose that’s what was meant by behave.

  26. Comment by dreadlocks — October 15, 2009 @ 1:31 pm

Maybe they will let me join. :D We could have rice and beans with the “fish eggs” and froi gras…lol. BTW, I don’t give a rat’s patooti where he hangs his fat @$$. I don’t listen to either of those yankees. The reggae music has a better message to me - and I don’t do any drugs either.

Ironically those of blasting the Palm Beachers do not realize that 1% of the Population of the United States pays 80% of the Taxes that fund our Government. Which would be the Palm Beach Insular Crowd.

As well the residents of Palm Beach pay MORE Real Estate Taxes than other Palm Beach County Residents. No Wonder Palm Beach would like to form their own County.

  28. Comment by PJP — October 15, 2009 @ 1:38 pm

Keith Cooper, you call Rush a racist. Obviously you don’t know the man. Obviously you don’t know that the man who screens all the phone calls on his show is black. Do you think Justice Clarence Thomas would hang out at Rush’s house if Rush were a racist? So, Mr. Cooper I suggest you go borrow some money and buy a clue!

  29. Comment by JohnW — October 15, 2009 @ 1:38 pm

It’s harder to say who is the bigger media whore: Sharpton or Limbaugh? Personally, I don’t care for either one of them. As one person commented earlier, they both are the bottom feeders of the citizens they represent. Who gives a crap where they eat?

  30. Comment by Sammy — October 15, 2009 @ 1:43 pm

AL is so full of $!%@ he stinks worse than Rush. The dumb @$$ is not invited to the club so why does he think they should let him in. When it comes to the mouth overriding, Rush, Al & Jesse are three peas in a pod. But when it comes to really being racist. Al is king with Jesse and Rush taking up the rear.

  31. Comment by flgirl — October 15, 2009 @ 1:45 pm

And Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not racist? I am sick and tired them calling others “racist” when they, themselves, are hypocritical racists who belong to black-only organizations. But let a white person belong to a white-only organization and the tables turn instantaneously!

  32. Comment by david — October 15, 2009 @ 1:47 pm

Okay, the club is a throwback and like much of Palm Beach, hails from an era when it was perfectly acceptable to exclude Jews and Blacks and no one complained, but that’s not what this is about. This is about press coverage from two publicity whores who will inflame any situation, use and abuse whomever is a convenient target, just to further their personal agendas. And that’s exactly what they have in common - their agendas are to stay in the public spotlight — just don’t shine the light too brightly on either of them. Any exposure of their real character and they would burn up.

  33. Comment by pat — October 15, 2009 @ 1:53 pm

Hey Sharpton, you want to come to Palm Beach and stir up trouble?

Bring your nappy head ghetto lying butt down here and lets go at it.

  34. Comment by pjay — October 15, 2009 @ 2:01 pm

You were right to call Sharpton an “agitator,” but you should have called him a “racist agitator.” Everything he does is rooted in race-baiting, and in declaring that there is bigotry where there isn’t really any.

The Everglades Club should meet his attempt to visit with a steadfast refusal to admit him–and it should make a loud public statement that it’s not because he’s black, but because he’s an *SSH*LE!! You’re still allowed to discriminate against *SSH*LES, right?

  35. Comment by pjay — October 15, 2009 @ 2:04 pm

“At the Everglades Club he does not have to take a drug test. I do not think he can pass the drug test to be a part of the NFL.”

Yeah, um, the NFL is full of PLAYERS who fail drug tests too. They fail, they get suspended, and then the league lets them back in. What’s your point? Obviously drugs are not something that leads to someone’s exclusion from the league (Ricky Williams, anyone?) so why should past drug problems keep Limbaugh out? Hypocrite scumbag. Nice try, but you score a big goose-egg with that attempt.

Rush needs to surround himself with as many other fat, white, bigots as he can find because their days of perceived “superiority” are coming quickly to an end. This country and the rest of the globe are increasingly non-white and increasingly diverse. Just look at the next generation who embrace this new diversity and laugh at the homophobia and arrogance of Rush, OReilly, Beck, Coulter, Hannity and the other vultures preying on the most ignorant and frightened among us.

  39. Comment by hcaines — October 15, 2009 @ 2:24 pm

In this so called land of “opportunity”, which definitely doesn’t mean the land of “guarantee”. Why are all the grown white (and predominately white)have such a hard time with opening up clubs at this day and age? Could it be racial? Could it be economic seperation during this time of crisis?

No matter if it is Al Sharpton or Jackie Chan that wanted to be apart of the club, there should not be a restriction clause of “If they behave…”

Don’t be stuck on the small picture of someone wanting to be apart of the “Our Gang” Fort. It is the symbolism of separation of our (the whole US)freedom and it breaks up what little unity there is.

  40. Comment by TOOL — October 15, 2009 @ 2:26 pm

William Pannill is an idot, if they were not talking about black people he would not have made the follwing comment. “If they behave, they’re welcome like anyone else.” What does him think a bunch of jungle bunnies are going to come into his club and go crazy, that comment alone shows he’s a racist….

One thing’s for sure about those of you attacking Limbaugh. You couldn’t name two people who have a partial ownership of an NFL team and what their views are on Obama or any other topic. How do you know they don’t belong to all-white clubs? How do you know they’re not racist?

  46. Comment by Jim — October 15, 2009 @ 3:41 pm

You people taking shots at Rush looking into the NFL should have been at the Dolphin game on Monday night. When Obama showed for his speech on the big screen the place was filled with as many boos as for the NY Jets.

  47. Comment by Alan — October 15, 2009 @ 3:50 pm

Late yesterday, news broke that former Madison Square Garden chief executive Dave Checketts dropped the conservative talk-show host from a bid to purchase the Rams from current team owner Chip Rosenbloom, who hasn’t yet officially put the team up for sale.

Now comes word, via Bloomberg, that ultra-liberal billionaire financier/philanthropist George Soros, who once compared some of Pres. Bush’s tactics in the war on terror to the Nazi regime, may also be part of the bid.

Talk about NFL ownership making for strange bedfellows. That’s about as bizarre as it can get.

You can claim that blacks are discriminated against and mistreated on Palm Beach, but it’s crap.

Several years ago, I was rollerblading downtown WPB right during the week of Independence Day, so part of Flagler Drive was closed off. It was after midnight, and a car approached me on Clematis Street, with a young black male driver and three hottie Brazilian girls in it. They had come from out of town and asked me how to get to the beach.

Since Flagler was closed off, it would have been difficult to direct them, so I said, “You know what? Follow me to my car and I’ll lead you there.” So that’s what we did.

We (both cars) arrived on S. Ocean Blvd. and we all went onto the beach (which is prohibited). The guy and I opted to swim a little, and the girls hung out and watched.

Soon, we saw flashlights at the beach steps and knew it was the cops beckoning us off the beach. They got our ID and ran them past the dispatchers, who reported back that we had no warrants, etc. (”Cleared five ways,” was what they said.) Two cop cars showed up to do this. In the end, we were all LET GO without so much as a ticket. They could have easily given us summonses for trespassing on the beach at night–and if the police there are so bigoted against blacks, why didn’t they?

Why give any creedance to Al Sharpton after the Brawley case and Duke Lacrosse case? Both times Sharpton was found to be on the wrong side and only defending people because they were black.

It’s the media that feeds Sharpton and Jesse Jackson (hymie town, illicit affairs/child of out wedlock, filing lawsuits to get on boards of companies).

This is a racist media. They continually focus on black racism and ignore white racism.

The frequency of appearance by these two guys dilutes anything they have to say on race. They are laughable and more importantly, old time. Let’s get some new educated blacks on the scene. These guys are still in the sixties.

It’s the democrats who are pushing this agenda and getting Limbaugh off his message as Obama spends $2 trillion on healthcare, $6 billion on Pakistan and puts this country in turmoil. Taxing and freedoms are being taken away, while all the media does is focus on these two doofuses, Sharpton and Jackson.

All this hatred because of the color of skin, how idiotic is that? Life’s too short for all this hate, and its being used as a distraction to take this country down and no one seems to realize that. We are doomed and maybe thats not such a bad thing because reading these writings, these all are toxic people and of no use in modern society. How sad that is.

If Rush were to become a minority owner of the St. Louis Rams, he would not be the first NFL owner to be a member of the Everglades Club. Bob McNair owner of the Houston Texans is a membmer.

I worked as an electrician at the Everglades Club on the island. It is a part of the Kennedy compound. Yes the ULTRA-LIBERAL Kennedy clan. Black while driving,I was followed into the club by PB Police. When I got out of my truck with hard hat & my tools in hand, the genious cop still must of thought I didn’t belong with the construction crews b-cuz he ran my plate as soon as I entered the building. RACISM = The control by one race over the self determination of another race. Now that everyone is on the RIGHT page in regards to what actually constitutes racism, maybe we can have a thought provoking discussion. As an potential owner, who has made it clear what his beliefs are regarding the ltd. ablilitiy of black athletes (ie. McNabb) He can and probably would deny any blacks advancment into leadership positions head coach, VP’s, GM’s, and Quarterbacks. Folks that is racism, by definition. Show me 3 cases where Sharpton, or ANY Black Man in America (outside of the oval office) has the attention of 3 million daily listeners who can affect the determination of so many millions more through Job-Housing-Educational and other means of discrimination. Oh, I almost forgot that dicrimination in it’s many forms ended the day Lincoln (LOL) freed the blacks(LOL, again). And, since that day Racism hasn’t been tolerated in the US. Ask any white man, whether a Fortune 500 exec. who has no minority’s in exec. roles or a KKK/Skinhead/POS/Killer the same question and every white man in America will tell you the same thing that Rush has stated over, and over until it almost seems plausible…Their Answer= I’m NOT a Racist! Are You? This is a faulty premise based on fallcy. Hey Rush, If You’re NOT…Who is…Sharpie? I don’t think that Sharpton could determine or control the outcome of his personal assistant’s life nor anyone else’s.
Black ST Louis Rams players are NOT going to let Rush determine their’s.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are two of the biggest racists in the world. The way I see it is everyone has the same opportunities in this country. When a black person fails at those opportunities he brings up the race card, instead of looking deep down into himself to find out what really happened. It’s always easier to blame someone else for your troubles than to think and realize what the real causes were.

“We don’t discriminate,” he said. “You don’t get elected into the club, you get brought in by members for membership. At this point, we have no black members, but there are plenty of black guests. Both Rush and I have brought in black guests.

“If they behave, they’re welcome like anyone else.”

That right there is the problem. As much as black people try to be civilized, they can’t behave. What’s the big fuss about. It is a known fact. It is a private club. If they don’t want you there, then you are not welcome. It is not a government entity where you can sue for discrimination. Ever wonder why we really don’t see that many white people in the NAACP? Were there white people in the black panthers? To all the black people, open your doors to the whites and the whites will open the doors to you
