Calling Celine Dion a water hog did have some effect after all.
Now that she’s having a water park installed on her Jupiter Island property — that’s two giant pools (one for the guests, of course), several waterslides and a lazy river — Dion’s doing it somewhat sensitively.

Last year, as the area suffered through one of its worst droughts, the Canadian songbird became the area’s heaviest user of drinking water. About 6.5 million gallons flowed through her nest, and that was just during construction. Cost the singer of My Heart Will Go On $36,343, and beaucoup public scorn, even if it was partly due to a broken pipe.
Now, La Dion told Martin County she’s having American Drilling Services drill wells on her $12.5 million beachside property. That’s three wells to extract water, and three to re-inject some of it, post use, back into the ground, according to the paperwork.
The water will not only be used for the waterpark but also to cool the home’s air conditioning units.
By the way, Dion is having a reverse osmosis system installed to purify the water 98 percent on its way to her water park.

I have this vision that someday I will be riding my bike on Jupiter Island and will come across another bike rider with a flat tire or something who needs my help, and it will be either Celine Dion or Tiger Woods who have come down to earth.
Guess all those years in Vegas with that town’s disregard for water conservation must have rubbed-off on her!

Celione Dion believes that she deserves to be absolved from being environmentally responsible because she is special and rich. The elite believe the “green rules” are for the little people to follow, not them.

She is not taking away from the public water utility…. and she can afford the cost, so whats the problem? She can spend her money as she sees fit, because she earned it… she hasn’t had her hand out for government freebies… and what makes you think she is a liberal? I remember when Jupiter Island was a place where we went to drink and make out with our girlfriends. To bad it has become a resort for the rich and snotty.
Just charge them a fee that will bring the light of day to them, and realize that you cannot suck dry the island. They will be able to rebuild the water plant, and infrastructure with their water bills with plenty left over.
As to Celine, when her house and property starts to sink and foundation cracks she will see the light of day, not to mention the salt waater intrusion into her wells. This is not Canadian bed rock but porous limestone.

Angiline is correct that the water source is the same for community and residential wells so Celine’s wells are potentially taking from other users. Especially as the 3 injection wells are not to replenish the aquifer but to get rid of the waste that the reverse osmosis system creates. RO processes typically provide drinking water volumes that are only 80 percent of original volume pumped from the ground. The remaining 20 percent is in solution with all the minerals, mainly salt. This solution is then reinjected into the aquifer. But it is not replenshing anything as the solution is much saltier than even sea water.
Typical misinformation either from Celine’s people or Jose from not following up! Either way, Celine is a WATER HOG!

I live in Hobe Sound. My only source of water comes from my well. There is a finite amount of water. I had to drill a new well 2 years ago. I foresee the day when with a few more golf courses, Celine Dions, Greg Normans,and all the other water gluttons completely deplete the aquifer. They won’t care because they can afford to move on.
They have the right to squander their money any way they want as long as it does not interfere with a common resource. Shut them down.

Yes, Angeline is correct. The water ‘table’ that drillers attempt to access is the same for all of us. So, if she is consuming all that water, that means it will directly negatively impact the availability of water for all of us. Next, is she going to be held to the same water restrictions that everyone of us is dealing with in times of drought? No water in the lazy river; no water in the fountains? We all know the answer to that. And just because she can afford it doesn’t mean its right or moral or ethical.
What do so many of you think that as long as she has the cash she should be what she wants, cuz we live in a free country? Don’t you know when you post those type of statements, you are just exposing yourself as a mental pawn.
And to ME: you are an idiot. What she does on her property will affect the water ‘table’. That DOES affect all of us.

Time to set the record straight. Ms. Dion’s wells will be drilled along the beach into what is basically seawater. They will be no where near any source of fresh potable water that is used by anyone else and will not take water away from any other users. The wells for the water utility that supplies the island are miles away on the mainland. The system is doing what water managers at all levels have been trying to get public utilities to do for years, desalinate seawater. Since Ms. Dion will be using seawater as her source, a consumptive use permit from the State is not required. The treatment system and disposal wells have been permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. This system is about as green as you can get, aside from the electricity to run it. This is case of Jose not doing his homework and unnecessarily alarming people without knowing all the facts. Ms. Dion is exhibiting a fine example of the State’s requirement to use the lowest quality water available and to leave the potable resource alone for use by others.
Celine should have her consultants look into a system of underground cistern to capture the rainwater and store it onsite. This would reduce the need for drilling wells and sucking the aquaifer dry that supplies the day to day needs of regular working folks.
Once again, Ms. Dion’s wells are no where near any utility that provides water for regular working folks. There is basically no fresh potable water on Jupiter Island. Their water utility and the wells it uses are across the waterway in Hobe Sound. Ms. Dion could just as easily have used public utility water for her park and her airconditioning; now that would have taken water away from regular working folks.
And, for the record, because this system will be using desalinated seawater it will not be subject to water restrictions.
Maybe she will strike OIL! Drill Baby Drill, as the right wing repukes say!

Thanks to “thinking green” for the additional info…and to all the envious libs out there, Celine Dions wells will not cause any shortage of water… the sky is not falling!Libs are famous for seeing catastrophe just around every corner.
Water Watchdog is basically correct. The aquifer is like a deep underground river that flows down the state and out to sea. Many years ago there were fresh springs welling up miles from shore. Sailors would replenish there water stores without making landfall. The spring holes are still there, although dry (not flowing) to be seen by divers exploring the under water realm. When you extract water from the “mouth “ of the river, it does not affect the wells several miles upstream or inland. In times of drought, her well will go from lightly fresh to brackish and maybe all salt. It still will not affect the inland wells or water table. Our government, namely the SFWMD, passes on a lot of misinformation that is regurgitated by the PB Post and other media. So many people react and respond to the misinformation without doing their own research. I am a native to S. Fla and have studied the geography and hydro dynamics of the aquifer for many years. Celine’s wells will not affect any of us except in the money she spends in the community and in taxes. Let’s welcome her and the other wealthy in our community. Maybe they will indirectly help some of you to get a job or a better job.
By the way, the level of ‘Lake O’ has NOTHING to do with the aquifer and our drinking water in the coastal counties. It’s a puddle on the surface a hundred feet above the underground river. The two don’t touch and the lake doesn’t replenish the aquifer.
Celine you are not being environmentally caucuses and also not thinking green. BAD CHOICE!
(With all of that money your spending on this home water park WHY:? don’t you take that money and help the people in third world countries whom can not even get a glass of water to drink and supply them with some water.)

Stop the bitching - Celine will be using desalinated water!!! Funny how many Americans blame her for all their troubles, meanwhile we know there are many Americans who do waste TONS of water (they don’t use desalinated water!!) and damage nature badly. But of course, they are Americans so it’s not as bad as what Celine does… Wake up and smell your own backyard!!
