A cross between a discount motel and a beachside nursing home? Na ... it's Tiger Woods' home under construction on Jupiter Island. (Splash News/Special to Page2Live)

Woods and Nordegren

Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods

Is it any wonder that golfer Tiger Woods had everybody building his Jupiter Island home sign a confidentiality agreement? I mean, look at this place! It’s a cross between a discount motel and a beachside nursing home! But hey, from what I’ve been told, Woods’ Swedish missus, Elin Nordegren, is calling the shots on this one. Woods bought four adjacent properties on the tony island for a Martin County-record $44.5 million in 2006. He then tore down the existing homes on the 12 acres, including a classic Bahamas-style manse. The new 9,700-square-foot home is split between the living quarters (right on the photo above) and a gym (left side). Both sides will be connected with a glass-covered walkway, according to the blueprints. Good thing the plans call for so much foliage around the house that few passers-by will be able to see it! How did Jose Lambiet get a job doing this when he’s so damned illiterate…..I couldn’t even finish trying to read this crap. I could do 100X better than this.

To what?: If your prose outpaces that of Lambiet’s by such a broad margin, why don’t you privy us to your abilities? I was able to finish reading his article with no difficulties. Perhaps you need to brush-up on your reading comprehension?

I’m not sure why the builders would have to be confidential; it’s obvious the whole thing came from Ikea.

I would have to say that Elin is definetely calling the shots based on the architecture of this thing however I think once it’s completed and landscaping is done it’ll be much more appealing than how it looks currently.

Besides what are all you guys ticked off at Tiger for?
One of the best sports icons in History pouring money into our local construction economy– see the big picture people. What are there, 30 vehicles parked at that site? Think about that, thats 30 people with an income in a hard hit industry. Thumbs up from me!

We’re very happy to have him in our neighborhood. His house is his business and it looks very expensive and shows good taste. Welcome Tiger and family, don’t pay any attention to the people that mat be jealous of you and your success. Have a Bugaroos Day!

  12. Comment by Bill — November 9, 2009 @ 11:00 am

Of course the wife is in charge of the project. It’s going to be her crib after the divorce. And yes, it is ugly. Did the blonde design the house? Poor Tiger couldn’t stay away from the gold diggers.

I have to say that this structure has no heart, no style. It reminds some people of a “Motel 6″ because of it’s minimalistic, commercial style.
The only people who should even care are the local residents and apparently they don’t!
Afterall,….having “the world’s greatest golfer” as your neighbor doesn’t exactly deminish the neighborhood!

Here we go again. Didn’t we just see this with Celine Dion’s new house? They are fortunate to be able to do this for their families & can provide an economic boost to our area & new housing construction (notice at least 2 dozen work trucks??). Obviously if there were confidentiality agreements & plenty of foliage to block from regular public (unless you have a zoom lens & helicopter), then he does not want this to be so public.

Looks like a tinker toy house, and completely out of touch with it’s environment, the land, the beach. And oh yes… the roof line is butt ugly cheap looking.

But what do you expect from an uneducated former Nanny? Class? A sense of place and beauty? One might ask the same of Tiger, who’s also lacking.

I agree with Procrastinator…. think about what good all that money could do to protect the environment he’s actually destroying instead … and lets not forget the other new wild extravagance soon to be built just down the road for another classless uneducated guy, Michael Jordan.

I don’t begrudge them their money, but they could do something worthwhile with their wealth, if any of them had a conscience.

  31. Comment by Sunshine — November 9, 2009 @ 4:22 pm

I’m astonished at the ignorant comments on this star’s house. Be thankful that a wealthy individual chose this area to build his home. I’m sure those who are disliking his house don’t have anything better in their own front yard. Don’t be hating because you can’t afford to build your dream home.

Tiger deserves to build whatever style of house he wants. You should ask yourself, do you work as hard as Tiger Woods? Or know anything that goes into being the #1 golfer in the world? Maybe if you worked as hard as he did and had as good of work ethic, you could build a mansion that big! He deserves it. And so does Michael Jordan for that matter.

Tiger donates millions to charities of his choice and helps those in need. He has full right to build whatever kind of home he wants to. I’m just thankful he chose to build here and didn’t listen to the ignorant attitudes of people writing in bad comments. So do you think all wealthy people should give all their money to charity and just live in trailers? Something tells me I think you’d STILL find something to complain about.

You have serious issues if you’d rather have him not build the house and have all those people out of work. I welcome Tiger and other wealthy people to come to the area and build homes which provide jobs for our locals and bring money into our local economy.

Almost 100% of what the Palm Beach Post publishes is printed on the fly–the writer’s can’t write and maybe the editors can edit but they don’t get the chance when the stuff is submitted and published 30 seconds later.

It is no surprize that his wife was in charge of that one, the Northern Europeans have a very practicle clean approach to architecture that is difficult to translate into larger structures without having an external ‘corporate’ or institutional quality. I think I would withold judgment on his wifes design vision until the interior is appointed. It appears that she has a good concept of light and expanse, so let’s wait until its done and the party is thrown.

I think they are a lovely young couple and congratulate them on their new home.

Remember kids, it’s your success and its your house, it doesn’t matter much what everyone else thinks of it, if it is your dream house, then Good for You!

Your wife is lovely Tiger and you did the right thing to let her have her home the way she wants it.

Good Man. I’m sure you’ll both be very happy there.

    Congratulations.

I love the jealous comments about how they should be doing something ‘worthwhile’ with their money. Somehow I believe he has more than enough to build twenty of these homes - furnished. So, I’m sure he’s doing some very worthwhile things with his money that we don’t know about - nor do we need to know publicly. regarding the architecture…what is ‘real’ for Florida? every home I’ve been to that has Florida ‘architecture’ has styrofoam under stucco. Classy.

I would imagine that after it is finished it will look better. Why not a traditional beach house on this beautiful landscape? If you are going to build a split level complex, why not a high rise or something like they build in Saudi Arabia? Who knows, but it is certainly interesting -to say the least. Enjoy your compound!

If he and his wife think your 150,000 mobile home is tastless and tacky and an eye-sore are you going to reconsider your sense of style or wonder “who the f are you?” Mind your own business and get a less worthless life. Anyone entering his place might be converted into a faith-based member not to speak to the media or gossip circles on details. But I give praise to the world’s #1 athlete on the location where he’s intending to live with his famous neighbors & to conduct his business dealings as well as strategic tournament play.

While my personal taste might be different, who has the right to say what is “best”? I’m sure many looked at Picaso’s works and called them junk. Art is personal and it is their money; let them spend it as they chose. He earned every penny of it. And let’s wait until the plants are put in! Instead of being bigots and haters some bloggers should do their research and find out the following:
    1) Many university/college kids work as nannies to pay for their schooling. They are not nannies for life and even if they are, nannies are important in children’s lives so I am sure she is a great mother.
    2) Elin is from an upper class family in Sweden (her mother was a member of parliament there - her father happens to be a Journalist. Her sister is currently finishing up her university studeies.) So talk about class.
    3) Tiger was not from a wealthy family but he was brought up well. He did well in school and was accepted to Stanford on the merits of his education - not just because he was a golf phenom.
    4) So far Tiger is not divorced (ane even some legendary golfers have walked down the Isle several times) - so what is this I hear about class?
    5) What do some of you know about architecture. Perhaps the writer should do a bit more research and enlighten us?
    6) Many should learn to not always judge a book by its cover.
    7) Its his money and as long as his wife is happy with the house, he will be happy with his gym. To each his/her own.
    8) By the way, if the writer had done his research, he would have found out that one of the homes was destroyed by lightening.
    9) Anyone who has been living in the dark need to go to http://www.tigerwoods.com and read about Tiger’s charitable endeavours from which he donates his own personal money every year. One e.g., hes wins from the Chevron Challenge and AT&T Natonal goes to the Foundation. He also matched with his own funds, monies donated in his father’s name to fund scholarships each year for students going to colleges/universities.
So people, before you comment, please learn to READ.

Let’s be honest… He may be a very talents golfer and his wife may be stunning and attractive, but between them, they do not have a single drop of design sensibility. They will probably tear it down within a few years and just sell it as a formerly owned Tiger Woods property. There are suckers that will buy anything formerly owned by a star athlete or well-recognized celebrity.

Time will tell. We will certainly keep our eye out for it. As your commentors have shared, it is not likely we would ever represent this property. It is not up to our standard.

Do you have to live in it? No! It’s HIS home - HIS money - HIS choice.

Besides, maybe he’s looking waaaay ahead — if it looks like a MOTEL, maybe that’s what he can turn it into in the future. Ocean front vacation motel — affordable rates? We’ll leave the light on for ya!

I read where the up-to-date vision for Tiger’s property will contain the main house, guest house, gym , boathouse, tennis court, basketball court, a three-car garage (small by rich people’s standards) and a small golf course. Nothing too extraordinatry in my mind for one of much (well-earned and deserved wealth). Seems very down-to-earth to me by today’s standards.
