A Spanish radio jock and TV personality was kicked out of a party for retired baseball slugger Sammy Sosa on Saturday night for mocking Sosa’s changing skin tone.
Enrique Santos, morning jock on the Miami-based WRTO-La Kalle-98.3 FM and a Sunday night stalwart on the Spanish TV network Univision, said he was given the bum’s rush for having had his face blackened, according to Santos’ Web site.

A publicist who worked Sosa’s 41st birthday party at the Fontainebleau Resort in Miami Beach stopped the Cuba-born Santos on the red carpet and accused him of making fun of Sosa, a native of the Dominican Republic.
Slammin’ Sammy, one of baseball’s most prolific hitters, made news over the past few weeks when it became apparent he’d had his face bleached a la Michael Jackson. Sosa has said he’s just undergoing a skin rejuvenation procedure.
So, why couldn’t Santos do the opposite, even for a publicity stunt?
Well, it was Sosa’s party, and he could do what he wanted to!
“I explained to (the publicist) that it was a special cream I was using that darkened my face and then I asked her, ‘How many women in here are wearing makeup?” but she wasn’t having it,” Santos told The Miami Herald. “Was I not white enough for Sammy’s party or have the millions gotten to his head . . . I mean skin?”

Why were Sammy Sosa’s people so offended by what Santos did? Maybe he was using a cream that darkened his face. Sosa isn’t the only one allowed to use creams

What he did was great. I leave Florida for Tennessee and get back and Sammy Sosa is white. White and with straighten hair. Embrace what makes you different than everyone else. He’s an idiot with too much money to spend.
This is a perfect example for those outside of the Caribbean to see how there are color humor and views. Whether they want to admit it or not, a large majority of Dominicans are mulattos, as so are other Spanish speakers in the Caribbean. Sosa is not the only popular one. A Rod is another. Most people do not pick up a book like the Almanac, read about the Ethnic make up or about the country’s history. There is discrimination in the Latin world, just like anywhere else. If this was all in fun, and if Sosa is white, then why darken the face with the cream. No way around it, poor taste in humor. No class.
I agree with rodney 100%. No damn class. And also I think Sammy and others like him are ashamed of their African roots. Shame on them. Everymans DNA ties him/her to the continent of Africa. Lets face it and stop the ignorance. Please!!
Blackface makeup in America is taken as a joke. Mocking folks for their color is just stupid. Mr. Santos’ should get a life.

Humorous or not, it is just moronic to think you are going to be let into a party where you are ridiculing the guest of honor. It sounds more to me like this DJ wanted his moment in the spotlight. You really expect me to believe he had no clue what would happen showing up like this?
I actually think it’s HILARIOUS and I’m black. The reason I think it’s hilarious is that Sosa’s going through hell and high water to change who he is and no matter what we’ll always know that he WAS dark skinned, with nappy hair, and dark eyes. Now he beyond light skinned, with permed hair and hazel eyes. Sosa may or may not have vitiligo….the same could’ve been said for Michael Jackson but why change the texture of your hair if that’s the case? Let’s be serious people.

We’ll see how many “friends” Sammy has left, including the “wife”, once he runs out of money.
Apparently, Sammy is trying very hard to wash away the roots of the “barrio sucio” of where he came from, and the few real friends he may have left back there.
the last time jose posted these two pics of sosa side by side sosa wasn’t as dark on the left one…but for sensationalistic purposes he also darkened him on the left and i suspect made him brighter on the right.
