Dame Celia Lipton Farris is already a historic figure in Palm Beach … and this has nothing to do with her age.

When it comes to the arts, there isn’t much she hasn’t done. There was Broadway, the London stage, the movies and early television, singing and painting. And when it comes to charity, she’s one of the most visible donors on the do-gooder scene.

It’s fitting, therefore, that the great dame is to be honored by the Historical Society of Palm Beach County on Dec. 9 at its yearly fund-raiser. The pre-party was Saturday, at the palatial digs of Cleveland lumber magnate Patrick Park at the Bears Club in Jupiter. It usually takes a lot to lure Palm Beachers to the northern confines of the county, but more than 200 people came to the Tuscan mansion.

“Dame Celia keeps Palm Beach moving,” Park said. “She’s the driving force behind many charities.”

Patrick: You simply must go on a diet. What has happened to you? You are looking more like a Clevelander than ever before. I believe it is time for you to begin spending a bit more time outdoors, exercising, than indoors feeding. And good gracious, who schlepped Celia off-inland and up to your place for the plastic-face fest? CHEERS!

Mrs Lipton Farris has never received the honour of an OBE from The Queen. She is not entitled to call herself Dame Celia and diminishes the honour for others by doing so. She deserves to be recognized for her philanthropic activities but she does not deserve to use a title.

To the comment above about Mrs Farris, She did receive the honor on an OBE from the queen so get your facts straight. Jealous much? Guess you didnt think her or anyone in her Family would read this? I’m family and your post is BS….

    Dear Srh,
Reference is made to your comment on December 7, 2009. I have every confidence that Mrs Lipton Farris & everyone in her family would read everything about her. Including this:

In 2004, she was named a Dame of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, which entitles her to place the letters, D. St. J, after her name.

Yet she now heads her personal notepaper, Dame Celia Lipton Farris, and is announced by that style on all social occasions. But then, in the neverland kingdom of Florida’s Palm Beach, such distinctions are apt to become blurred.

To reiterate my previous point, Mrs Lipton Farris deserves to be recognized for her thoughtless generosity. My post is not BS (to quote you) and even a cursory search on the Internet will reveal everyone who has an OBE. Mrs Lipton Farris is not Dame Celia.

Perhaps you, Dear Family Member, should go check your facts.
