EXCLUSIVE: Nearly 40 events lead to Super Bowl XLIV
Nearly 40 official public events are planned in South Florida in the two weeks leading to Super Bowl XLIV, Feb. 7 at Land Shark Stadium.
And according to a Super Bowl Host Committee calendar exclusively obtained by Page2Live, at least eight are slated for Palm Beach County.
Some highlights:
JAN. 28, 2010: Delray Beach will host Art & Jazz on the Avenue at Old School Square. The theme of the gallery stroll is football, and organizers are promising to have current and old-school NFL stars mingle with the Great Unwashed.
Elsewhere that day, 30,000 people are expected at the Miami Beach Convention Center for Fan Fest, a pigskin geek gathering with memorabilia shows, booths with all things football and concerts. Also not to be missed is the Battle of the Beauties, a cheerleading competition featuring 26 NFL cheerleaders, at Ocean Manor Resort in Fort Lauderdale.
JAN. 30, 2010: A youth mini-camp is scheduled to take place 8 a.m.-noon at Boca Raton High School. Details are scarce, but don’t be shocked to see a few NFLers there. Old School Square in Delray will be the scene of another NFL meet-and-greet.
Land Shark, meanwhile, will host a flag football competition. Twenty-four teams from across the nation will duke it out for a national championship.

JAN. 31, 2010: Juno Beach is scheduled to host a bicycling event, Cycling for Education, with organized rides of between eight and 64 miles.
The Pro Bowl kicks off at Land Shark at 8:30 p.m.
FEB. 1, 2010: The Palm Beach County Media Day starts at 8:30 p.m. Designed to showcase the area for worldwide press, the event at the Palm Beach International Speedway is open to the public. I’m told NFL players and other celebrities will get to show their competitive spirit at the wheels of fancy cars on the racetrack.
FEB. 2, 2010: Former and current NFL stars will try their hand at golf, in Miami Beach.
FEB.4, 2010: Super Clematis By Night is expected to bring 30,000 people downtown West Palm Beach. Two years ago, the fiesta scored the highest attendance of any event leading to Super Bowl XLI. There’ll be a parade, drill teams, cheerleaders, current and former NFL stars, a concert and interactive football games.
Also that night, a major concert with several yet-to-be-determined A-list musicians is scheduled for a strip of the beach in Miami Beach. More than 15,000 people are expected.
FEB. 5, 2010: The big deal that night, a Friday, will take place near the Surfcomber Hotel on Collins Avenue. It’s the kickoff of Bud Bowl, a two-day block party.
FEB. 6, 2010: Three youth football camps are planned, all in Palm Beach County: Glades Central High School in Belle Glade; Boynton Beach High School; and the Dan Calloway Tate Recreation Center in Riviera Beach. From 8 a.m. to noon, with NFLers scheduled to attend.
The scene then shifts to Fort Lauderdale again. The Taste of the NFL, at the Broward Convention Center, pairs up top chefs with NFL alums to whip something nice for 3,000. A concert with a least two top performers is to take place on Lauderdale Beach. And comedian Dane Cook is playing the BankAtlantic Center.
FEB. 7, 2010: Super Bowl XLIV. Don’t bother. It’s sold out.
