Links Leviathan Greg Norman and tennis legend Chris Evert, who spectacularly broke up their respective longtime families in order to get hitched, were secretly divorced Dec. 8 in Key West.

They were six months short of their second anniversary!

It was the former world No. 1 female tennis player’s third attempt at holy matrimony. It was the golfer’s second.

Taking advantage of the attention paid by the press to the firestorm surrounding the Tiger Woods accident and sex scandal, the two worked out a quickie settlement behind closed doors.

Then, on the morning of Dec. 8, I’m told by a source in the Florida Keys with access to flight information, the Great White Shark flew to picturesque Key West with his divorce lawyer, Jeff Fisher. Fisher, who also handled Aussie Norman’s divorce from his wife of 25 years, Laura Andrassy, shepherded the paperwork through the courthouse within a couple hours.

Evert, 55, was not present, according to the source. Norman, 54, officially was the complainant.

Although both are area residents, with Norman living in Martin County on a Jupiter Island property dubbed “Tranquility” (see here) and Evert on a Palm Beach County ranch in Boca (see here), Norman filed for divorce far from home.

Floridians are allowed to do that in any county, and many high-profile folks hoping to keep their split quiet usually pick out-of-the-way places. Key West boasts the United States’ southernmost everything, including the courthouse.

According to the couple’s “final judgment dissolving marriage” obtained by Page2Live, the two promised to abide with a pre-nuptial agreement they signed June 2, 2008, three weeks before their wedding. The agreement wasn’t made public, and won’t be for as long as Norman and Evert remain friends. If a controversy arises, it could become public.

“The bonds of marriage between . . . Greg Norman and . . . Chris Evert, are dissolved because the marriage is irretrievably broken, and the parties are restored to the status of being single,” the divorce decree reads.

A source familiar with the inner workings of the Monroe County legal system said there was no exchange of money between Norman and Evert. What each brought financially to the marriage, each took back.

The torn lovebirds first made news together in October 2006 when they filed for divorce from their respective spouses –  Norman from former flight attendant Andrassy, and Evert from former Olympic skier Andy Mill — and started appearing together at private parties.

By mid-December, Evert and Mill, who were married for 18 years and have three boys together, were officially divorced by a Broward County judge. Evert, who was worth $24 million at the time, had to pay Mill about $7 million cash as part of their settlement.

The Norman divorce, however, lingered on in a Martin County court for another year and a half and became mostly a battle over Norman’s $500 million-fortune: golf interests, vineyards, clothing lines and others. In the end, Andrassy received a $100 million-settlement, which Norman will be paying for the next 10 years.

Norman and Evert always denied having hooked up while still living with their spouses. The couples were close, with Norman once flying Mill to Augusta National for his birthday and Norman often helping Evert raise money for her charity. But Andrassy told the press two years ago she believes Norman and Evert first hooked up while the two couples were on a cruise together.

Evert loved Norman’s business drive, and blasted Mill for his being more interested in fishing and having fun. Norman, who was married to a homemaker, also appreciated Evert for being a woman who brought home the bacon and cooked it.

The divorces cleared the way for Norman and Evert to get married, in a beautiful hilltop ceremony on the aptly named Paradise Island in The Bahamas witnessed by Evert’s three sons.

A month later, a composed Norman stunned the golf world by coming thisclose to winning the British Open, his best showing in years.

Evert and Norman separated in late September 2009, saying they had not decided to make their split official.

A spy close to the couple told me today that their announcement at the time was made for “marketing” purposes but that both already knew then there was no chance they’d reconcile. Both their exes told me that Evert and Norman are both A-personalities, and their egos clashed often in their short time together. Friends of both tell me neither has another lover at this point, and that the split wasn’t caused by “third-party involvement.”

“This was a rebound marriage for both of them,” the spy said. “Those never work.”

Fisher, Norman’s divorce attorney is out of town today and couldn’t be reached for comment. But after his handling of high-profiled, multi-million-dollar cases over the past few years — including the splits of NASCAR ace Jeff Gordon in 2002, America’s cup winner Bill Koch in 2000 and Yankees part-owner Jack Satter — it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that Fisher is on the short list to represent either Tiger Woods or his wife, Elin, if there were to be a divorce.

Evert’s barrister, Fort Lauderdale’s Wilson Greaton, declined comment.

I swear both of these people need to be slapped in the face. They dumped their respective spouses for each other. Totally living in the moment. Evert is a skank bag and norman is a douche. Nice. Great role model for the children.

I wonder if the $100 million Greg gave and $7 million Chris gave was worth the less than two year marriage?

Even though Norman and Evert are far from financial bankruptcy, it would appear to me that they are both morally bankrupt.

You just know these two were doing the horizontal bop before their previous marriages were ended.

I maintain that she packed it in because he has funky bad breath. Just look at that tennis match picture. She can’t get far enough away. And look at HIM. You just know he hasn’t seen a piece of floss in a decade.

Why didn’t she get some golf clubs in the settlement ? Every woman knows now that a golf club is very handy in dealing with an a**hole of a husband.

I had to deal with Jeff Fisher about 10 years ago- can not stand that shrimpy, nasally, arrogant, ego maniac and what a whiner!!! The little wannabe chick attorney-her profile- beleive me -she does not look that good in real life- I can’t beleive you can post a photo like that unless you are on Facebook; she must have had a 12 hour make-up changeroo guru using the skills of a master artist - the likes of Monet would be proud.

Tell comment #3, (obie-one) he (she) has the facts wrong. Evert has been married 3 times (if he (she) had read the above article correcly, see paragraph 3, obie-one would have the correct facts) and she certainly is no loser; maybe she has not found the right guy.

  17. Comment by hasak — January 11, 2010 @ 4:15 pm

Maybe obie one is psychic…another marriage and divorce is coming!

  18. Comment by mary smith — January 11, 2010 @ 4:49 pm

He has a certain charm, but what he saw in her mystifies me. She’s a four time loser, so I guess she can’t hold a husband. Too bad he gave up the wife of his youth for her.

  19. Comment by Carol — January 11, 2010 @ 6:13 pm

    They are both LOSERS!!

  20. Comment by Don S. — January 11, 2010 @ 7:46 pm

Look at all the Whining Judgers! Look at all your jealous seething hatred of those who have done more & done better than you, admired the world over… L-o-s-e-r-s indeed. Those 2 have had lives of winning the likes of which you can not even imagine. Amazingly transparent petty & envious comments here. Sorry your lives feel so empty that you feel a little better dumping your hate on these legends.

  21. Comment by Papacucaracha — January 11, 2010 @ 7:53 pm

Well-said number 20! There are a lot of frustrated cheated wives and husbands posting here!

  22. Comment by Craig — January 12, 2010 @ 12:37 am

DDDDDDreadfully boring….HAH! Jupiter Island has become PB Dumping Ground North….Give me your tired…your cheating….your losers. They can all live in Palm Beach and/or Jupiter Island. Both places deserve their residents now. What a sad collection of sexually confused, boring has-beens. Chrissy never should have left that other development of the tacky, Boca Raton…and as for Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Rush Limbaugh, Anne Coulter, and the other fakers….you have turned both PB and JI into third-rate subdivisions of new-monied, unintelligence. CHEERS!

  23. Comment by Mannix — January 12, 2010 @ 1:21 am

C’mon Craig, you’re a regular blogger here on Joe Zetas & PB post stories. If it wasn’t for the island we wouldn’t even live here, this place would be a minor burb like Melbourne or Deltona. As far as Jupiter proper (Jupiter Island to Jupiter Farms) I would wager most PB co residents fancy the hell out of it & would live there if they had the choice (river front west of A1A bridge…dandy!)
By the way, Greg & Chris both need a pie in the Face!
Leave Tiger and Rush out of this pls.

    Letters from Children of Divorce:

“25 years ago when I was 14, my parents divorced. My younger brother is now dead from a heroin overdose, after the pain my mother caused by leaving us, for her boyfriend. My mother is old, retired, and alone and now needs my help. I am using this opportunity, to stay away from her, to return the favor for all the pain and torment.”
    —Annie

“Do parents even comprehend the massive, unfathomable amount of pain, suffering, agony and devastation that their selfish divorces, adulterous affairs & remarriages cause? Do they?”
    —James

“To the children of divorce, if one of your parents leaves, make them regret it. Make them realize that they destroyed a family. Children of divorce go to as much school as you can, and get a good job, don’t let their evil plan destroy you. Then one day when the parent who left you, gets old and now needs you, show them the same care as they showed your family.”
    —Wesley

“I will never accept that parents are just human and make “mistakes,” divorce is not a mistake, it is a sin. They say it’s not good to stay in a bad marriage, get a life, marriage it not about being happy. Divorce is wrong, family-destroying and evil.”
    —Brett

“I don’t think parents even care about how this affects their children because my own mom chose her boyfriend over my dad and my brothers and I. We suffered tremendously and now because of my mom’s example, both of my grandparents are divorced and most of my aunts and uncles are in the middle of their own divorces. This is out of control, when will it stop?”
    —John

First, this is a tough world, if the children are going to whine and cry about every little thing that happens, they are never going to be strong enough to survive. Get over it you little cry babies - toughen up it’s really no big deal at all - divorce is nothing.

Second, this site seems to be full of very low IQ people. Someone was talking about morals? what the hell are morals - stick your head outside and get up to speed with the way the world works. Morals are some dumb old-fashioned idea. If you are not happy in a relationship (marriage or otherwise) GET OUT of it! There is no need to suffer in some terrible situation just because of some dumb idea of morals. Especially if you are Greg Norman and can be bonking more women than you know what to do with. Get it on dude - reap the rewards of your lot in life - bang lots and lots of chicks.

  26. Comment by Papacucaracha — January 12, 2010 @ 3:09 pm

Let also Chris bang a lot of dudes and why not, girls (?)?

  27. Comment by Laci — January 23, 2010 @ 9:12 am

I don’t think their kids are suffering too much. Andy Mill is the one who made out. He got the $7 million, an $8 million house in Aspen, no nagging wife to stop him from fishing, skiing and enjoy sports with his three sons who couldn’t stand Norman.
