The homes and schools close to Dolphins Stadium are receiving “sex offender advisory” postcards this week warning residents to watch out for The Who’s Pete Townshend, who’ll be performing at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV.
By next week, 1,500 homes will have received the postcard (see below), sent by the Brevard County-based Protect Our Children. The non-profit acts as a community watchdog when it comes to sex offenders and sends similar cards to Melbourne residents where known pedophiles live.
Townshend, 63, was arrested in England in a 2003 roundup of alleged pedophiles accused of cruising online sites for photos of child sex. Townshend said he was just doing research for a book at the time. He wasn’t convicted of anything but was placed on that country’s list of sexual offenders for five years.

Several South Florida child-abuse organizations last month asked the National Football League to bar the British guitarist from the halftime stage, which he’ll also share with the classic-rock group’s original frontman, Roger Daltrey. The anti-pedophile crusaders also asked immigration authorities to stop Townshend from entering the USA, citing “moral turpitude.” And they lobbied tire-maker Bridgestone so it would pull its sponsoring of the halftime show.
So far, only the NFL responded, saying it would not ban Townshend — whose big tunes with The Who include guitar-heavy Who Are You? and Pinball Wizard — because he was never convicted of a crime.
But that didn’t satisfy those who say Townshend isn’t welcome.
“Normally, we don’t do anything outside of Brevard County, but Pete Townshend admitted to visiting websites with child pornography,” said Protect Our Children’s Kevin Gillick. “As far as we’re concerned, Pete Townshend could be dangerous for the community. No one who isn’t interested in child sex visits porn sites. And he was on his country’s sex offenders list. Why is he in what amounts to a family event?”
No word yet if Townshend has arrived. Rehearsals at the stadium are scheduled for next week. The game, which pits the Indianapolis Colts to the New Orleans Saints, is Feb. 7.

This is total bulls*&t - why - in God’s name - would anyone do this to someone they don’t even know - the court records were sealed and noone knows what really happened - after all that he has been through - and you judge - may you judged according to the judgement that you laid upon others.
If I read this correctly, in 2003 he was placed on a list for 5 years. That would mean he is no longer on any list and has never been convicted on anything. So they are dofgging an innocent man by the law. Shouldn’t they be using their resources to stop REAL Criminals?

Men, Sex and Porn
So much has been written about women’s sexuality it is time to publish some bare facts to explain, unpolished, the other side of the equation; men.
When it comes to sex, men are by nature predators; women are selectors. That happy mix ensures the continuation of our species.
Men are not by nature monogamous; that explains their wandering eye. Indeed consciously or unconsciously men are constantly and compulsively on the hunt.
For example, that guy you passed in the hall has already mentally undressed you, decided if he would have sex with you; and how. So does every other man you meet unless he’s gay, then he’s looking past you and focusing on the guy standing beside you. Surprised? Hurt? Flattered? Don’t be, its men’s nature. And in the great scheme of things, meaningless.
Sex drives men from puberty through old age. It is their “raison d’etre”, their purpose in life; to reproduce. Everything else is, well, fluff. It diminishes with age but never disappears. Sex is a primitive - primordial - urge.
The sex urge drives them hard; it is wired deep into the primitive levels of their brains; alongside the other basic drives. The bottom line? Without this urge we would never survive as a species.
Men are emotional animals too. They can and do meet and stay faithful to one woman for life. They fall in love and trust completely. Men have been compared to dogs; bright, fun to be with, a hair dumb at times and if unfixed, constantly horny. If we’re dogs, then women are cats and have all the traits that go with the feline makeup. That, however, is another story.
Women have sex drives too, however theirs is not driven by a unique glandular and hormonal combination. A German study found that while women’s sex drives drop significantly after they enter a secure relationship, men’s don’t.
Unlike girls, at puberty, boys are given two special and important gifts from nature; testosterone and a prostate gland. The prostate is the main producer of seminal fluid and once it’s turned on it never turns off. Manufacturing semen 24/7, its fluid lubricates the urethra and ensures reproductive system health; in addition to its primary purpose of ensuring the safe delivery of sperm. Testosterone is what drives this system and injects aggression into the mix.
As an active gland the prostate insists on being emptied frequently. Depending on age, and the man, this may be as often as once a day; maybe more. Less as they age and hormones diminish.
This is accomplished through sex, masturbation or nocturnal emissions. And it’s not an option; it has to be done to maintain health - mental and reproductive. In a practical sense frequent emission of semen ensures healthy sperm.
There are many other glands that makeup the male reproductive system that also produce fluids. There is the Cowpers Gland (Bulburethral gland), glands of Littre, seminal vesicle, vas deferens, epididymis (where sperm are stored), and of course, two testicles. The testes produce billions of sperm on a weekly basis; billions that don’t take kindly to sitting in the epididymis for long. They want out. Men produce an estimated quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000) sperm in a lifetime.
As any sexually active woman knows, her significant other is driven to have sex. This is nature at work, pushing the male to reproduce above all else; sometimes to the expense of all else. The reward is an orgasm, relief, a reduction in stress, emotional bonding; and the start of a countdown until the next time.
If sex is not available, men masturbate. If they don’t, nature empties the glands while he sleeps. The prostate doesn’t care; when it’s filled to capacity it has to eject; fortunately not spontaneously. In many men a full prostate is painful.
Men are visual when it comes to sex; it is part of the feedback loop. That’s why women appear pretty or sexy. It’s what attracts men to women.
How does pornography fit into this picture? Simple. It is a visual feedback stimulant.
Many men have a need for additional stimulation. This is accomplished in various levels depending on a combination of factors including character, sex drive, sex life, stress, hormones - any number of things. Porn adds a visual stimulant that helps taper or increase the sex drive. Porn adds pleasure during masturbation also filling in for an absent female. Porn is material fantasy; a replacement for, or supplement to mental fantasy. Women get confused about this. Men aren’t having sex with the models in the pornography, the stimulant is watching others having sex.
Some men find a trip to Hooters stimulating. Others frequent strip joints. Some up the ante with drugs or alcohol. Others employ the world’s oldest professional, prostitutes. Still others are compulsive cheaters. The testosterone is all controlling, demonstrable through male risk taking and aggression (an observation, not an excuse).
If you want a demonstration of how primitive men’s sex drives are add some beer to the mix. Watch as his social barriers diminish and his sex drive take over. Men will have sex with just about any female after a few drinks; hence the term ‘beer goggles’. Some men need alcohol to have sex as they need help in reducing inhibitions or they find their mate unattractive. Too much liquor however and all bets are off.
Many readers may disavow this article and they’re welcome to. Men are however all wired the same and subject to the same urges. Indignant women may think “my husband’s not like that.” Knock yourself out. Sex drives all men from Presidents to the preachers and all in between. What differs is the intensity of the drive and the means used to satisfy it. Like all other aspects of our personalities, life experiences and morals may add further tweaks to that mix.
The male sex drive has been around since the beginning of time. When it disappears, so too shall we.

I feel like this is the most blatant over reaction to a situation I have ever seen. I for one believed and still believe Mr. Townsend is NOT a pedophile and really, Mr. Gillick, you sound like a media whore whose personal interests over shadow the fact that Pete accepted his punishment (and I know from all indications he wasn’t real happy about it) and please don’t tell me that Gillick has NEVER investigated the same type sites Pete did in the interest of checking out what said sites are showing. If it makes Kevin Gillick feel better maybe he can watch the game at Chris Hansen’s house unless we are going to have a 3 hour special of “To Catch A Predator - Super Bowl/Pete townsend edition”….

It’s sad that Mr. Townshend, who has done so much to raise awareness of the need to protect children from abuse is still being haunted by this allegation. He offered the authorities his complete cooperation and spoke openly about what happened at the time and subsequently. This is the sort of publicity grab that deflects attention from those who WOULD harm children.
Brevard County is 140 miles away from where the Super Bowl is playing. How the hell could it be considered near the stadium when it takes over two hours to drive there? This seems like an attempt at publicity which is sad considering the subject involved. The old saying “any publicity is good publicity” isn’t always true, just ask PETA who pulls this stuff constantly and has made a mockery of any good will that intended.

Following a news leak that Townshend was among the subjects of the investigation,[27] he publicly stated that on one occasion he had used a credit card to access a website advertising child pornography.[28] Townshend, who had posted essays on his personal website in 2002 as part of his campaign against the widespread availability of child pornography on the internet,[29][30][31][32][33] said that he had entered the site for research purposes and had not downloaded any images.[28][34] A four-month police investigation, including forensic examination of all of his computers, established that Townshend was not in possession of any illegal downloaded images.[35] Instead of pressing charges, the police elected to caution him, stating, “It is not a defence to access these images for research or out of curiosity.”[36] In a statement issued by his lawyer, Townshend said, “I accept that I was wrong to access this site, and that by doing so, I broke the law, and I have accepted the caution that the police have given me.”
Townshend has been an active champion of children’s charities. The debut of Pete Townshend’s stage version of Tommy took place at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse in July 1992. The show was earmarked as a benefit for the London-based Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation, an organization which helps children with autism and mental retardation.
Townshend performed at a 1995 benefit organized by Paul Simon at Madison Square Garden’s Paramount Theatre, for The Children’s Health Fund. The following year, Townshend performed at a benefit for the Bridge School Benefit, a California facility for children with severe speech and physical impairments with concerts organized by Neil Young each year. As a member of The Who, Pete Townshend has also performed a series of concerts, beginning in 2000, benefitting the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK, raising several million pounds. In 2005, Townshend performed at New York’s Gotham Hall for Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope, an annual children’s charity fundraiser, and donated a smashed guitar to the the Pediatric Epilepsy Project.[25]

A 1972 Tommy performance which raised nearly £10,000 for the Stars Organization for Spastics charity.

Organizing an online auction in 2000 to raise funds for Oxfam’s emergency services to help those affected by floods in Mozambique and a combination of drought and food shortages in Ethiopia. Among the auctioned items were a selection of gold and platinum awards, letters from celebrities such as Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney, and musical instruments (including a smashed Rickenbacker guitar and the guitar on which Townshend composed the Who classic “Behind Blue Eyes”). The centerpiece of the auction, however, was a 1957 Fender Stratocaster which was given to Townshend as a gift by Eric Clapton after Townshend had helped arrange Clapton’s 1973 recovery from his own heroin addiction, and comeback show at the Rainbow. The guitar was ultimately purchased by Pete Townshend, Mick Jagger and David Bowie, and presented to British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Performing with The Who at the 2001 all-star The Concert for New York City at Madison Square Garden, honouring policemen and emergency personnel killed in the September 11 attacks.
Performing at the Royal Albert Hall in a 2004 Ronnie Lane tribute show which served as a fundraiser for both Lane’s family and multiple sclerosis research.

Evin Daly is dangerously forgetting (or purposefully over looking) that hundreds (perhaps thousands worldwide), of severely abused children drift into the adult pornography and sex worker industry each year; many when they are still under age!!! I don’t feel it is appropriate that a man who is reputedly the C.E.O of a privately funded and international children’s protection “group” that is claiming to be safe guarding the welfare of children, is touting and defending pornography. Logic and decorum dictates that if you are a children’s abuse advocate, when it comes to writing about sex, do us all a favour and keep the obvious to yourself.

Pete was the victim of sexual abuse as a child himself and there’s more to the story than that, I’ll let you google it from there. The guy has done a lot for awareness on this subject. I find that most people who attack others on sights like this are really people who don’t have much control of their own lives and vent their frustration onto others by pointing fingers when they can. Evin Daly it turns out is registered with an Internet content provider and is paid for putting out articles on his own campaign. Every one of the headlines that comes from his content gives him a paycheck.
So now it looks like he could be harassing Townshend, the NFL and the Super Bowl sponsors purely to profit from his articles on his own campaign.
