The Dolphins be damned, Jimmy Buffett’s a Saint

Palm Beacher Jimmy Buffett suddenly bleeds New Orleans Saints black and gold. Buffett, who made a commercial deal with the Miami Dolphins last year when the stadium was renamed yet again after his Land Shark beer, just posted this picture on his Facebook site. That’s Jimmy with daughter Savannah and the Saints’ Lombardi Trophy. Buffett, by the way, is the guy the Dolphins trusted to rewrite the team’s fight song. So, what gives?

In all fairness, according to New Orleans’ Times-Picayune, Buffett told Dolphins owner and fellow Palm Beacher Stephen Ross at the time they made the deal that he has been a lifelong Saints fan. “I love the Dolphins,” Buffett reportedly told Ross, “but my home team is the Saints. If it ever came down to the Dolphins and the Saints playing in the Super Bowl, I’d be yelling for the Saints.” Mississippi native Buffett, it turns out, attended the very first Saints game, in 1967.
