Wellington polo boss John Goodman involved in deadly crash; booze could have been factor

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s report about the deadly car crash that took the life of a 23-year-old man in Wellington this morning says alcohol was likely involved. See the PBSO report here. (pdf)
The incident is sure to rock the polo community.
The accident, which shut down parts of Lake Worth Road for eight hours, involved Texas multi-millionaire John Goodman, the founder and owner of Wellington’s International Polo Club Palm Beach.
He suffered minor injuries.
But at the wheel of his $250,000 black Bentley Continental convertible shortly after 1 a.m., Goodman, 46, reportedly blew through a stop sign at the corner of Lake Worth Road and 120th Avenue, a block south of the club he founded.
He crashed into a westbound Hyundai — sending the crumpled Sonata into a canal across the street and its driver, Scott Patrick Wilson of Orlando, to his death. The shock was so violent that the Hyundai is believe to have gone airborne before landing on its roof and sinking in the canal.
Wilson recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Palm Beach Sheriff’s deputies tested Goodman for DUI, but the results are not available. No charges have been filed.
Several polo sources said Goodman spent the early part of Thursday night at the White Horse Tavern, a club on the grounds of Wellington’s equestrian stadium. The tavern featured a charity function dubbed Polo Bartending Challenge. He wasn’t spotted drinking heavily and ate a full dinner. He later visited the Players Club, another restaurant and bar in Wellington favored by the polo crowd.
The accident occurred about 10 minutes after he left the Players Club.
“We are checking if alcohol was a factor,” said PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera. “The driver (of the Bentley) is still at the hospital.”
Barbera said Goodman was taken to Wellington Regional Medical Center, where deputies got a blood sample. It could be weeks before the results are known. But Barbera added that road conditions and speed are also being looked at.

Wilson, the Hyundai driver who was headed east on Lake Worth Road, has an Orlando address. I’m told the victim is freshly-graduated from college. Share your condolences here.
John Wash, manager of Goodman’s International Polo Club, confirmed to the Palm Beach Post’s Jason Schultz that Goodman indeed was involved in the crash. Wash didn’t comment on the incident but said Goodman suffered minor injuries.
A gregarious man who often attends charity galas in Wellington and Palm Beach, Goodman is a polo player and team owner as well as club owner who has become one of the major figures of the sport of kings in this country. His shifting the polo scene from the aging Palm Beach Polo stadium to the current 76-acre location farther west in 2004 may even have saved the sport in Welly.
With gimmicks like bringing singer Madonna to the stadium, and actor Tommy Lee Jones and his team to the field, and darn good polo to boot from superstars like Memo Gracida and Nacho Figueras, Goodman has made the club a center of life in Wellington.
On a warm Sunday, it’s not rare now to see more than 20,000 fans on the grounds.
As for Goodman’s driving habits, I’m told by a business associate that he often uses a car service to go out at night.
“I’ve seen him plenty of times being chauffeured around in a black Town Car,” the friend said. “I don’t know why he was driving Thursday night.”

Looks like he is in big trouble. He tried to flee the scene. Don’t worry, he will pay off the family. He is rich.
Another rich a**hole believing the rules dont apply to him. This young man died for no reason and this guy wont even go to jail. Money talks in this town. My deepest sympathies to this young mans family. I am so sorry for your loss.
Why did not Goodman attempt to remove this man from his car? Again, we find that drinking alcohol and fatal accidents are closely associated! Why do we continue to allow this carnage caused by so called “social drinking”?
Why did not Goodman attempt to remove this man from his car? Again, we find that drinking alcohol and fatal accidents are closely associated! Why do we continue to allow this carnage caused by so called “social drinking”? The answer if blowing in the wind.
The rich & famous seem to think they are above the law! Let’s hope this guys money & connections don’t let him get away with it!
Same ol’, same ol’. He will flee to TX, circle the wagons, pay the family off secretly, and never spend a day in jail. Bet we never hear the true BAC of this member of the plutocrats. But don’t act like you are superior either. My money is on most of you are whores for money also. Feeding off the teets of the rich and famous. Bunch of name-dropping, wanna-be’s–the whole lot of ya. Well, at least most of you.
And the rich will keep on treating our communities like their personal toilets. With you forever trying to climb your way up their floating terds, just to get a glimpse of their brown star. Quick take a pic. Send it to your friends with the caption, ‘Look at me, I’m partying with pieces of sh*t.’ Love, Dingleberry.
Both you are idiots commenting on complete speculation and not fact. Why don’t you let PBSO do there job and keep your ignorant comments to yourselves. I doubt either of you have ever met this man and yet you have formed such an opinion. I think jealousy is the case here. Insain that our PC country people like you still disciminate! You should be ashamed.
Well I think he will spend some time in jail & even if he does “pay off” the family that does not make the potential DUI manslaughter & potential other charges go away.
I am not sure about the comments saying another rich person thinking the rules don’t apply to him, people do stupid stuff everyday, rich or not. The difference here is because he is rich its news & people want to comment, if this was 2 average citizens it would hardly be news.

You know, Devil’s Advocate, people drive drunk everyday/everynight. You can’t be biased based on success, or the lack thereof yours. It’s a sad thing to wake up to but it’s certainly a reality check. Just another reason for PBSO to enforce DUI checks. My simpathy goes out to the family.
As an attorney concentrating in auto accidents I see these type of matters all the time. Pending an investigation do not rush to judgment. Were you involved, you would want the same courtesy.
It applies to everyone. If you’re driving, don’t drink alcoholic beverages. People know that, but they continue to drink and drive.
This is a very sad story and one that will rock the POLO community, however the confusion that J. Goodman is a bad person is a misconception in itself. He is a very nice man who does a lot of nice things for the community of Wellington. This is an absolute tragedy and I send my thoughts to the family of the young man and to Mr. Goodman’s family.
I hope that they find he wasn’t drunk. If he was drunk…can you say Ted Kennedy!
You know Alex, you have no clue as to me or my success level so save the chastisement. If you want to suck up to rich, arrogant people thats your business, dont assume everyone is as impressed with money like you are. And the correct spelling genius is ” sympathy”. Guess that just explained ” your” success level.
If I’m destined to be killed by someone else in a car crash, I’d prefer that they be driving a car worth more than my house. At least my family will be compensated.
John Goodman will be the next O.J. Simpson.
So what if Goodman just committed vehicular homocide, he’s super-rich and can buy his way out of trouble. His expensive defense team combined with his influence in the community will guarantee justice will never be served.
When are the laws going to change to 0 alcohol = driving?
What a concept, just think about it.
As a non drinker I am tired of hearing about car accidents that involve alcohol.
My sympathy to the family of a child that had just started his life and now it is over, no money, or jail time for Goodman is going to bring him back.
mr goodman WAS at the players club….fact not speculation…but he was well liked and doubt many will come forward..but maybe someones conscience(woops) will prevail…i believe they have security cameras…first year attorneys would have half of his assets within a year for the grieving family…its a shame….. can happen to a slum or a king..nobodys perfect..as a society we love to build our famous up to the skys and we love to watch them fall hard to the ground…by the way rush blows u made me smile to know there are societal critics out there who dont base the lifes successes on what mtv and american idol hold important..but that kinda talk will get u called an ahole…trust me..ive been called it many times…carry on
If he did blow through a stop sign and attempt to flee the scene that would be Veh. homicide..if drunk flat out MURDER..
Welly?? That’s the lamest thing I have heard since WaMu…and look what happened to that company.
I know John Goodman well and he is not arrogant at all. He is a good and generous person who has done wonderful things for a lot of people. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased and also to the Goodman family. I know that John is extremely remorseful and it sickens me to see the comments of the vultures that seem to get enjoyment from the problems of people who are more fortunate financially. Don’t judge someone that you don’t know.
JohnF
Forgive me but a good and generous man doesnt flee a crash he caused to leave a young man to die. I’m not impressed and what I do know of him sickens me.
playersclub attendy, YOU need to come forward to the police if you know for a fact that Mr. Goodman was “trashed”.
Let YOUR conscience be your guide.
JOHN GOODMAN is one of the the nicest people you would every come arcoss. just because he is driving a fancy car and he has money has nothing to do with this. it could have happened to ANYONE and happens all the time. attaching him for his money is wrong. that intersection is terrible a light should be put up. however i understand john made a mistake and will have to deal with it. i am sorry to both the family of this boy and john. but dont attack him he is a great man and feels terrible about what happened. it could have happened to anyone, sober or not. he would never in a million years hurt a fly. sorry for everyone this is truly terrible.
Devil’s Advocate
Then you don’t know much about him.
Wow, why is it taking 2 weeks for his blood alcohol to come back? When they have the drinking and driving stings around the holidays it doesn’t take that long, plus they do it then and there. Why again does his take this long to come back? Are they trying to lose it, say it took to long and throw it out, or just nothing at all because he is RICH!!!! If you have money you can get away with a lot of WRONG!!! NOT REALLY, you still pay in the end.
My sympty to the family of the Hunduai driver.
And get well wishes to John Goodman .
Our thoughts and prayers are with you John.
Jessica b is absolutely correct. People are making assumptions both about the kind of person John is, and also how he will respond to this, just because he has money. He is one of the finest, and kindest, people that I have ever known.
Where are the people on this thread getting their information that Goodman tried to flee? Or is this the way it plays out in your sick mind?
AND “OH”, perhaps they don’t find it appropriate to put the results in the news of Palm Beach County to protect what dignity is left in the media, but isn’t that the same as not announcing the deceased person’s name?
JohnF
I know enough. Guess this will be his defining moment.
Cheers Devil’s Advocate… Thanks for the spellcheck, I’m happy to see that someone is finally policing this thread, checking for spelling errors. I’m a resident of the community here; I operate a small business tied into the equine industry, and yes, a lot people are extremely successful. It never ceases to amaze me when people like you reply with such asinine comments. Someone DIED, and the first thing you say is, “Another rich a**hole believing the rules dont apply to him.” While you’re squabbling on with your “progressive” and irrational speculation, stating that this is typical of a “rich a**holes”, did you think about the majority of people that are charged with DUI or vehicular manslaughter? With an eye for spelling errors and an attitude as “virtuous” as yours, it only makes sense that you’re a………teacher.
I will reserve judgement till the outcome of the blood test is known, but I know had it been regular Joe they would’ve spent the night in jail at least….wouldn’t surprise me if the cops didn’t give Richie Rich a ride home or at least called him a cab.
I am a social drinker but can’t believe why the driving limit isn’t ZERO alcohol…it’s so low already it’s like one drink or something so why not just make a nice round 0? That way fat cat lawyers can’t get their wealthy clients off on technicalities. If it tests positive…GUILTY!!!
Innocent until proven guilty people, lets not forget that!
regardless of the drinking Goodman was the one who blew through a stop sign and from the looks of the cars he must have been going at a decent speed.
Taylor….
the story reports on wptv 5 web site that:
“Deputies say they found him down the road.”
Some people will take that as fleeing.
John Goodman will have to live with this night ,till the rest of his life,
He is a great man, good and caring person,
It could of happened to anyone.
My prayers for the young driver whom lost his life.
And fast recovery to John Goodman.
John we love you ,and hope to see you smiling soon
Truly
Ami De la Mer
Dear Alex
Take it ez. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it just outrages me when people of means behave this way. A promising young life has ended, but Good ole John’s continues. That always seems to be the end whenever there is a drunk driving fatality.
He belongs in prison..he is a drunk and he kileed a young man just starting out in life…what a waste!
bet he checks himself into rehab, DUI or not
if he gets the same lawyer as that kid from the Benjamin school, Goodman will never serve a day as charges/trial will all be delayed in perptuity. mike mcauliffe, our hero….
there is no justice in America, if you don’t believe it, watch this a hole walk free. if it were you or me we would be in jail right now.
Can someone bring me a beer?
and a porno!!
I’m totally sick by these comments. I can’t look at the picture of the car pulled out of the canal - drinking, running stop sign - the speed - I can’t even swallow! This young man was driving home to be with his mother, my Best Friend. Where is John Goodman? Will justice be served? People are worried about attacking this man’s fortune, reputation, etc.? All the money in the world will never replace this handsome, wonderful, smart, young man. We are heartbroken beyond words.
If he was drunk, he will be prosecuted. Much sympathy for the driver of the Hyundai. May he/she rest in peace.
JohnW
It was a he. Geeze.
Shouldn’t matter if he was drunk he broke the law drove through a stop sign and killed someone
Condolences to the family of the young man.
Facts will decide this case and a good lawyer.
Sad situation.
Too many drinking venues in what are Equestrian Overlay areas where lights out & all quiet is supposed to to at 10PM — what is happening to Village value’s? Allowing places like Tavern (which held a bar tenders contest where Mr Goodman started his night) — Players Club — and IPC bars to stay open well past the hour that places in the Equestrian Overlay areas should be allowed? When the facts are in, we may find this is the second death directly or indirectly related to too much alcohol served at a Bar in the Equestrian Overlay area staying open well past what the ordinance allows — the other death was that of a woman who fell from her golf cart when leaving a Super Bowl party at the Tavern around 12:30AM. The Village needs to pay attention — and think long and hard about what Wellington is supposed to be all about: Fostering an environment supportive of an Equestrian lifestyle and family values — not evenings of bar tending events and drinking.
Dude has lots of money…he wont be punished like the poor people are. Rich people get off and poor people pay…its just the way it is. I will enjoy Jose Lambeculos comments about this in the weeks and months to come.
I am so upset when people drive under the influence of alcohol. I don’t give a rats a– how important this man is in our community. How dare he endanger other people because he is some kind of big shot. In my opinion, it is vehicular homicide and the Judge should throw the book at him. It is unfair for people like this “prominent pillar” in our community to get off and not have to face consequences. I am sure that this Jerk has driven under the influence before many many times. He just never got caught.
People who kill while driving intoxicated should be charged with first-degree murder!
It’s a shame a young man with a promising future had to die because of someone’s reckless driving. I hope Mr. Goodman gets treated like any other drunk, reckless driver, but because of his money and his influence, he will probably be given special treatment. Life is not fair sometimes. My condolences to the young man’s family.
As a family friend of the deceased, I can’t help but tell the rest of you - regardless if Mr. Goodman was a nice man or a horror, responsible people don’t drive drunk. Just because this happens all the time doesn’t make it OK to take the law into your hands and do whatever you like. This young man was just beginning his life. No lawsuit, settlement or jail time will give this mother her son back. The best justice in this case is that Mr. Goodman lives to self-reflect on this day every day going forward.
He blew thru a stop sign and slammed into the car driving legally and possessing the right of way??
At a minimum he his liable for his tortious conduct and his insurance will pay someone the value of a 23 year old Engineer!!
At the maximum his alcohol content will be know today and charges should follow immediately IF he violated Florida drunk driving alcohol limit. That would then mean mandatory jail time for negligent manslaughter??
None of these scenarios depend on what a kind, caring, sincere, gentle and generous philathropist he might have been. The evidence appears to be overwhelmingly crystal clear and should determine culpibility and punishment!!
Either way, this won’t make even a small dent nor ripple in a billionaire’s lifestyle… unless those dudes in prison want him a whole lot!
Good men don’t drink and drive and kill someone, good men who have money call a cab or a car service or ask a friend to drive them home.
I’m not going to throw stones here. It’s irresonsible to do so without ALL of the facts. If Mr. Goodman was intoxicated, he will be dealt with to some degree.
The family of the diseased is what matters right now.
Its a very sad story for both famlies. I feel for the family who lost a child and he can never be replaced. The Goodman family will also suffer. He will never forget this accident and he will go to court and deal with that. He will also spend the rest of his life dealing with this.
well, the way the headline reads “it makes one think that goodman died in the crash” the real issue concerning the victim is in the middle of the reading.
so, again, the rich takes the headlines.
This “young man” has a name. His name is Scott and was one of the nicest, fun, intelligent people you can meet. I knew him when I lived in Orlando and enjoyed hanging out with him. I sure hope this rich dude gets the book thrown at him. What an idiot. Reports say possibly 100 mph threw a stop sign in your Bentley. Way to go genius. Anyway, my condolences to his family. And please god make this killer go to jail.
PLEASE lock this guy up forever….he is a murderer. ANYONE that chooses to drink and drive is choosing the consequences as well. NO EXCEPTIONS.
My deepest heartfelt sympathies to this young mans family. I lost my only sibling to a drunk driver and whenever this happens I take it very personally. No matter what kind of man John Goodman is, unfortunately this incident will be the defining moment in his life. Time will tell if justice is truly served but whatever happens it will never bring this bright young man back and that folks is the real tragedy here.
This is a tremendously sad situation with the loss of the life of this young man. Regarding John Goodman, there seems to be too much emphasis on the fact that he is rich and therefore a jerk. Unfortunately some men and women of all financial levels drink and drive but the gist of many of the previous comments is that he is bad person because he is rich and drove after drinking. I guess if you are poor then you not so much of a jerk. The fact is that a lot of people do it and they are not all a**holes as some have said. They have a problem but they might otherwise be decent people. Leave the fact that he is rich out of it. I know plenty of poor people who drive drunk.
Im sorry to hear about the 23 year old who died. John Goodman is a good man who had a bad moment. And just because he is “rich” doesnt make him a dick. John is a good man with a good heart and many of his intentions are good. Everybody makes mistakes.BOTH FAMILIES MATTER, Sympathy for the 23 year old/ family and Goodman and family. And im not pleasde by most of the comments of all you throwing john goodman under the bus, Im very sorry to hear about the situation but to hear all of you comment such nasty things is something wrong.God please protect both of these families and god bless!
John F…this guy is an idiot regardless of how much money he is…anyone who drives drunk, blows through a stop sign, and kills someone is an idiot and should rot in jail period.
Amen, RGB.
That is a dangerous intersection that needs a stoplight.
This is a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the family of the boy, but John Goodman has done a lot for this community and has supported many charities generously. The function at White Horse was a fundraiser for the YMCA. He is an honorable man and if he was walking away it would have been to get help!
John G has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse in his past. To just walk away and leave the seen of the accident makes me feel certain he was MORE than just drunk. He maybe a nice guy but he is definitely not a smart guy. Shocking and so so sad. I think his poor judgement has finally caught up with him.
Aside from his money, his precious car, and whatever penalty he might face, the guilt of having killed a young man by his own ignorance and bad judgement will never go away. My prayers go out to the fmaily of this poor man. What a senseless accident. All the money in the world can not buy you kindness and common sense I guess.
Thank you rgb, Scott was the best, most considerate person. He was on his way home to spend the weekend with his parents. He is my cousin & our family is devastated. We appreciate your condolences but no amount of money can take his place at the dinner table, it hurts to read those comments, so I felt compelled to comment.
John Goodman is a giving person and has always took care of Wellington, opening jobs and progress toward the community. Our sympathy goes to the Scott’s family, who will be in the glory of our mighty God.
EBK…he has money to give to charities in the community…who cares alot of people give money to charity and don’t drive 100 mph through a stop sign and kill someone…once again and my last post cause this is really firing me up…he is a complete IDIOT.
“I doubt either of you have ever met this man and yet you have formed such an opinion…” Absolutely true and for Mr. Goodman it was merely an accident - could happen to anyone. People have vehicle accidents all the time. Yet, this grave tragedy has a rich man in the prime of his life committing murder speeding through the night with a 450 hp Bentley. Can of anyone imagine getting T-boned by 5942 pounds at speed. You can bet the farm that he was drunk - probably twice over the limit. But, dont bet on justice treating him like you and me. When that happens (not if) DEVILS ADVOCATE wont look like he’s talking out to turn. He’s unfortunately and sadly correct.
My prayers to both the families for it is a sad time for them. There seems to be a lot of drama and surrounding this case rather than facts. The value of the car that this article stated is well incorrect. It did not even cost new was is stated in the article. The avg cost of this vehicle is $129K.
http://www.carsdirect.com/used_cars/vehicle_detail/ul141081237/Bentley/Continental%20GTC
Mr. Goodman made a mistake that cost a life. I’m sure this is not in his life plan and regardless of the outcome in the court he will suffer. His life will be forever changed and he will not escape punishment. I hold out a hand of peace and forgiveness for what he is about to enter, may it never happen to you or anyone that you care for.
RGB you keep saying “100 mph”, where is that information?
My deepest condolences to the family of the young man who was taken away from his family, friends, and loved ones way too soon in life. May God send down his angels to try to comfort them during their time of grieving. Nothing else matters right now people but the people who loved this young man who died! let’s pray for his family and friends who are hurting so terribly.
CMT my condolences to your family on the loss of a fine young man. As JT, I hope I am not hit by a drunk as well. Thanks for your concern. My friend lost her daughter to an idiot drunk driver. Her granddaughter of three lost her mother. I also lost a close friend because of his own stupidity of driving drunk. When are the penalties for this crime going to match the consequences???
raintime
I agree with your comment except for the last sentence. Please explain.
Rest in peace Scott Patrick Wilson age 23 of Orlando Fl. Mr. Goodman your life will never be the same, I realize you didn’t mean to do this but you did it.
May the family heal , and may the laws of the state of Florida prevail.
To Scott’s family, my heart breaks for you. I can’t even imagine what you are going through. You will be in my prayers. To all of you that are coming to the defense of Mr. Goodman and saying his is so giving, well this time all he did was take. He took the life of a young man that had his whole life a head of him. I certainly hope that the law enforcement agency that is handling this case isn’t star struck by this DRUNK and let him get way with such a horrific crime. Just because he has a huge bank account doesn’t mean he is above the law.
This is so sad and tragic. I’m so sorry for the family’s loss. My heart goes out to them.
wooow you all are stupid
Just for once let someoone put yourself in the place of the parents of the person that died. According to the news he blew through the stop sign so whether he was drinking or not (results pending) or just didn’t stop at the stop sign let this all be a lesson for on both ends. We always taught our children to stop for a couple of extra seconds at stop signs and especially at red lights when they turn. I myself am thankful we taught our children to always look both way even if it is at 1:00 in the morning. I cannot imagine what these parents are going through. Whatever the results I hope that everyone is treated fairly. The man that went though the stop sign will have to live with what he has done for the rest of his life. That’s a life sentence whether (after the results) if he serves jail time or not.
Some of these previous comments about this man being a wonderful guy and having his fan club admire him makes me ill. You wouldn’t say that if he “acidentally” killed your son! The ones that are protecting him most likely have also driven under the influence. He acted irresponsibly. Nobody here is making these comments because he is wealthy and we’re all envious. However, I am sick of the decadent rich.
I’m a friend of Scott’s family and also a mother of two. Following all the events and knowing what they are going through, makes me wonder What kind of person would walk away form something like that? Why not try to get him out of the car? Why if you have all the money in the world not pay somebody to drive you aroud if your drinking?
That was somebodys son, and brother a REALLY GOOD KID. I personally Don’t know what I would do if someone left my child (my baby) to die on the side of the road.
And MR. Goodman I hope that for the rest of your life you remember that you and your actions took the life of a great young man and destroyed his familys life.
And I hope that just because you have money you are not allowed to walk away freely without paying for what you did and getting away with MURDER.
R.I.P
Scott Wilson.
where were the police at this time? Oh,usually at
rush hour preferably at speed traps stopping poor working fools coming from work during the day.
…Sad, we know alot of persons connected with Polo and these establishments and this is a tragic occurence, nothing else…we can ask ourselves, “what if” all day long. A young man is gone for no reason and the man driving the car who hit him has to live with that on his conscience, something that will never leave him. Money or not, guilty or aquitted, his internal guilt will always be with him and he should use his resources to what he can to prevent this again. To the family who’s son is gone, my prayers with you. To the family of Mr Goodman, my prayers with you also.
I cannot believe the comment that was just left from “Wellington”It Doesn’t surprise me. “A young man is gone for no reason” Excuse me, if I stand correct a young man’s life was cut short because the man you are protecting did not do the right thing. “He should use his resources so he can prevent this from happening again? How will he do this when he is in jail? I cannot believe you or your pretentious comments. Someones baby boy was left in a canal because of this irresponsible wonderful guy. And his “internal guilt” believe me as soon as he comes to his senses his internal guilt will be on the back burner while his resources will be paying lawyers to get him a lessor sentence. What is wrong with you? He drove drunk,he killed an innocent young man. Oh never mind…
I feel soooooo sorry for the victim and his family. I cannot believe yet another drunk on the road as killed yet another human…and an accomplished one at that (young SCOTT WILSON). The young man who was so horrifically murdered will never live another moment, yet another inadequate thoughtless drunkard will live many more moments…he already has. ***Message to his high-price, overpaid lawyers…Do the right thing. Let the drunkard get what he deserves…JAIL.***
Note to editor of elementary styled PB Post…the audacity you showed in your reporting of this tragedy by speaking of all the polo happenings past, in the same article, prove your grade ‘F’ in journalism as usual. You never have any balls to face the true problem society deals with day-in and day-out…drunk driving to name just one.
Guarantee that 99% of Goodman’s supporters on here have some sort of financial tie to him!
A DUI Manslaughter with an additional charge of leaving the scene, where the driver should have known or knew an accident occurred and failed to give information or render aid is a 1st degree felony. The punishments include fines up to $10,000 and/or 30 years in prison, in addition to other penalties.
For Devils Advocate… the last sentence means that your words are unfortuantely and sadly true. ” This young man died for no reason …”
May God bless both families….
This is an easy one. He was hammered, driving recklessly, blew the light, killed the kid. He didn’t want to get his loafers dirty so he stays in the car till help arrives. He didn’t call the cops and nobody noticed the accident for quite some time so he had time to “sober up”. He will get off scot free, when he should be charged with vehicular manslaughter. Just like the Pizza kid in the Gardens, the family suffers, and no justice is served. It’s all about who has the money to pay for the elegant lawyer, who has the hush money to keep the partygoers and waiters quiet. Justice is never served in West Palm Beach if you have the $$$ and the lawyer.
Legal and Allan F are both partially correct. The bottom line here is that regardless of the pending DUI, there was ample evidence supporting the arrest of Goodman. Florida State Statute 316.645 gives arrest authority to any officer investigating the scene of a crash if based on the investigation, the officer has reasonable and probable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed any offense under chapter 316, 320 or 322 in connection with the crash. It seems from every report that Goodman ran the stop sign located at 120th Ave. and Lake Worth Road. This is a clear violation of F.S.S. 316.123(2A). Goodman should have been arrested on scene. He also should have been charged with a Failure to Render Aid a violation of F.S.S. 316.062. A charge of Vehicular Manslaughter could have also been charged, and the pending DUI charges filed at a later time. He should have been arrested on scene, seen a judge, and had his passport revoked. I don’t care what anybody says, if he was not rich, and was just an average joe, he would be in Palm Beach County Jail as I write this.
People need to focus less on the “impact” this has on the Polo community, and realize that Scott Wilson is gone, and his family is mourning. The Polo community hasn’t lost a thing.
As for everyone on here defending Goodman for what a great person he is, and accusing people of judging him harshly just because he is rich, that is not fair. We just want Goodman to be judged fairly, like any other person would be in that situation. Unfortunately.. so far.. it looks like money talks..
Another example of how, we, in this country have become accustomed to concentrating on treating the effect or symptoms of problems rather than eliminating the cause of the problem. ALCOHOL KILLS thousands EVERY year yet we accept this mind altering substance. When the mind is altered there is no such thing as “responsibility” …. May Scott Wilson rest in peace while thousands of other innocents await meeting the same fate. In the mean time we squabble over ridiculous ideas instead of eliminating the “TRUE CAUSE” of alcohol related deaths, terrorism etc. etc…. Smoking kills S L O W L Y …. Alcohol kills INSTANTANEOUSLY ! why are we still promoting alcohol ?

hopefully when he played golf he looked up at the big JAIL aka County as the inmates call it. He will be looking down soon I hope
I’m with all those who are raged by this.
That man better pay for this!
Wilson’s young life is worth a million times
more than this rich man’s bank account.
I see Goodman has hired Roy Black to represent him. To me, that is the most damning evidence that he himself thinks he’s guilty.
The SunSentinel says he was drunk! He should be locked up immediately! The fu%&&ker will be on a plane if he does not get arrested!
He may not have been fleeing the scene….in accidents many times there is a situation called “walking wounded”…ask any police officer/paramedic about this….the injured is stuned and confused and often times found wandering around a distance from the scene….happens allot.
The people that are so sympathetic to John Goodman must have some kind of financial interest with him. While watching the early morning news today, his lawyer made an eloquent apology that made me actually physically sick. If this was somebody from a less fortunate background they would throw the book at him. I am willing to bet his Bentley that this gentlemen who has probably abused drugs and aloohol many times in his life will get off with a slap on the wrist. Of course, it will not bring someone’s son back, but people need to realize that no matter who you are the law doesn’t change. This is why I am always dismissed on Jury Duty when they ask the question “Do I think our Justice System is fair?”
This is all Obama’s fault!!!
What I dont understand is: Why has he not been arrested for the accident? I’d be in jail and so would you fellow reader! Why?
Actually, it’s not an accident. No one made this “fabulous, wonderful man” (paraphrased from above) drink and drive. He created this all by himself. Anyway you slice this, he committed murder.
I can not believe that Scott’s picture is not even as big as the Bentley’s picture. Who cares what happens to John. Look at what happened to Scott. This boy had his whole life in front of him. John took this life and walked away. He wasn’t even arrested and put in jail. I am sick. Why would it take so long to fill out a police report? It sure wouldn’t take them long if the tables had been turned. Why would the Chairman and member of the Polo Club say this is a bad week for Polo? Who cares? That comment says everything to me. He cares more about his club then a mans life. Mr. Goodman needs to be seen and apologize himself. What is the matter with these people? Because he is rich and feeds that community with so much money they are going to give him every opportunity to get away with this.
Lilly, fight like you have never fought before!
It’s kind of scary when you think about it. So this guy can use his vehicle to kill someone and the police just let him go to the hospital. No arrest, no booking, no jail. He’ll probably be playing polo soon.
What’s to stop him from doing it again? He may be a great guy but does that give hime a pass to kill people?
This breaks my heart to see that a fine young man with a future is killed by guy that, from this report, “blew a stop sign”. This report says it may take weeks to reveal the blood sample tests. Complete B.S.!!
Where are the breath samples??
Who administered a roadside sobriety test?
Where is the police video?
I don’t know if alcohol was involved or not but this does not pass the smell test.
They can have the results tomorrow if they want!!
Who gives a crap about a $250,00 Black Bentley convert anyway??
A fine young man was killed and he will never experience what this guy has been able to enjoy all of his Polo Club life. And to Jessica who posted earlier He may never hurt a fly but this report says he “blew a stop sign”, hit the Hundai with impact hard enough to drive it into a canal and regardless of Goodman being impaired or not a young man who had a future is dead as a result.
i heard he has had 6 DUI offenses
To KC:
Sir or Madam,
The statement I made is not “partially correct”.
It IS correct.
Try reading again; this time for comprehension:
“A DUI Manslaughter with an additional charge of leaving the scene, where the driver should have known or knew an accident occurred and failed to give information or render aid is a 1st degree felony. The punishments include fines up to $10,000 and/or 30 years in prison, in addition to other penalties”.
Perhaps you meant “incomplete” rather than “incorrect”.
Lamentably, “incorrect” is not the semantic equivalent of “incomplete”.
The fact is that approximately 87% of those convicted of DUI manslaughter in the State of Florida go to jail.
Both instinct and experience tell me that the 13% who did not serve jail time did not also compound their transgressions by violating traffic law and perhaps leaving the scene, perhaps failing to render aid or notfy, and/or perhaps even having additional unlawful substances in their bloodstream.
My perception of heaven and earth is that attempts are being made at this very moment to move both.
Good luck with that.
just because the man as money does not make him an asshole. if you wrote that you for sure did not know who he is. if you did know him at all you would know that he has provided many with jobs, supported many of great cases and is a great fucken person. his wealth should be taken out of the crash, FYI poor people drive drunk and kill people too (if john was even drunk we dont know). john and scott’s family are all going to suffer for a long time. My heart goes out to Scott’s family. no matter what side you look at it everyone lost!!!
To Scott Wilson’s family - no one, not a thread on a board, a local news article or feeding into the frenzy will bring Scott back. It’s an awful day - week - month and year for your family, but you all take this time to be with one another. Know that Palm Beach County, South Florida and everyone on this board are keeping you in our thoughts. Scott reads on paper like a dream child, but none of us will know him the way his friends and family did. Please don’t read into the bull that follows this incident. The media is making this story top news, bringing light to Mr. Goodman and his vehicle, it’s not Mr. Goodman, nor his family that are choosing this to be on the front page.
To all the folks posting on this board, we are all entitled to our own opinion, but please don’t confused.. when we say that Mr. Goodman was a decent man and that the POLO community is ‘rocked by this’, it’s not to take away from the Wilson family. In fact, it is to acknowledge that one of our neighbors has made a terrible mistake. A mistake that cannot be undone, or I guarantee he would un-do it… a mistake that COULD happen to many, but happened to Mr. Goodman. I say this to hopefully send the logic, that regardless of his financial background, it’s a tragedy.
Let’s all take a minute and put ourselves on both sides of a fence. Losing a loved one, or being responsible for an action that caused someone to be lost… both are so gut-wrentching that typing a few words on the PalmBeachPost.com board seems meaningless.
RIP Scott Wilson.
So Roy Black is on the case? I’ll tell ya his strategy…he is gonna drag this out for at least 2 years from the date when the prosecuters file thir case against him - which may be in 6 months. So even if he does spend time (I’ll say 4 years tops), he’ll still have 2.5 years of freedom. He’ll surrender his passport, and get involved in community service, pay off the family, and try to live a squeaky clean life - that will be used in the trial. Mr. Black will make $1 million off this, and Goodman will be out by the time he is 53. Yes, this does upset me.
Let me first start by saying that I know John Goodman. Very well. I am not proud to say that but I hope what I have to say puts to rest other comments made by people who claim to know John on here.
John Goodman, his money, polo, none of it matters, although I do see the irony in the story that journalists so love a news story to have. The only person who matters here is his young victim. His name was Scott Patrick Wilson, and he was killed by an arrogant drunk who can now add murder to his sparkling list of life achievements which already included multiple trips to rehab, divorce, dropping out of college, and many many other shameful indiscretions.
John is not a bad person because he has money. That notion is ignorant and ridiculous. John Goodman is a bad person because of the way he has lived his life and this tragedy is unfortunately just further proof of that.
To those who would defend John. You obviously don’t know John as well as I do, I am sad to say. I know John quite well.
I wish I had known Scott Patrick Wilson, though. He sounded like a wonderful, kind, intelligent young man. I am praying, praying, praying for his family right now. As we all should be.
This was not some accident the likes of which “happen every day”. John’s self destruction was a foregone conclusion. I am just devastated that Scott Patrick Wilson, the 23 year old recent college graduate with a promising future as an engineer, got caught in his path. God is good, but this was not his will. This was the solely the result of the outrageously irresponsible actions of John Goodman. And this will be his legacy.
His victim’s legacy is that of a loving son brimming with potential who will be desperately missed every day by his family.
Scott Patrick Wilson. Murdered. February 12, 2010.
Somebody, I think Jessica B made a comment inferring that no one can say for sure if John was drunk. We do know that he was seen drinking. Also she is correct when she states “poor people drive drunk” however, if they are caught these so called “poor” people get jail time and are ususally heavily and harshly penalized. I am sure he has given people many opportunties in the community, but don’t you think he should receive the same sentence as any other “poor” person? He didn’t kill your brother, your son or your husband. From the way things sound, the Sheriff’s Department have already started covering it up especially when I hear that they did not even give him any kind of drug or alcohol test. my prayers go out to Scott’s mother. If she chooses to fight, God will be on her side. We never get away with anything such as this in life. No one is saying this man is a bad person, he committed a crime. He knew better. HIs irresponsible actions killed a young man who has not yet lived his life. Sure it was an accident, but it could have been preventable.
How come it’s taking so long for a blood test to come back? My son got a DUI recently, and ended up in jail the same night. He’s spent 78 days in jail and Mr Goodman walks away from the accident after killing someone, and that’s OK???? Something isn’t quite right here. I guess it’s called money, and that really stinks. Too bad his Bentley is trashed, but hopefully he looses his licence like everyone else does. Or does He???
A fund should be set up so Scott’s family can get a good legal team on top of the state prosecuter. Roy Black is a scumbag who will stop at nothing to get his client off. Evidence needs to be dug up on this “millionaire” who indulges in cocaine, gambling, and strippers on a regular basis.
“John Goodman Fans”
For all the “good” he did, this is going to be his defining moment.
RIP Scott Patrick Wilson
Upon reading the commentary from “the truth” makes me hope that Scott’s family or someone outside the family does set up a fund for a good attorney. We all need to contribute. If that’s what it takes to get some kind of justice even though it will not bring their son back, than we need to set an example for people like Mr. Goodman who thinks they are above the law. I will be watching the news everyday and hoping some one does this.
JOHN GOODMAN COMMITED VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER
PUT HIS MILLION DOLLAR AZZ IN THE PALM BEACH
COUNTY WAREHOUSE.. WITH BAIL PENDING…..
Babs
Unfortunately this guy will never see a jail cell. Hopefully living with what he’s done will be a jail cell that he will never escape. You cant run away from yourself.
Where are all the other comments that have been written and were on this morning? Talking about what a coward goodman is to leave the accident and not call 911 and yes he did flee the area and the majority of his polo buddies don’t even mention SCOTT WILSON’S name but refer to the low life that killed him as Mr. Goodman who are you people, you come to this on your “high horses” literally and think you can get away with murder !!! That is what it is, maybe if he stayed and called 911 got his clothes wet trying to get Scott out, even if he was drunk, maybe if he stuck around instead of acting like some flamingo sticking his head in the sand, MAYBE then we might not be so judgemental, Do any of you have kids or just horses !!!

My heart breaks for Scott’s family. May the Lord give you the strength and courage you need to carry on each day.
To number 113. The Truth
You said it all, I think you said it better than any of us….
Thank you for expressing what so many of us are feeling
Again my thoughts and Prayers are with Scott Patrick Wilson’s Family and Friends I didn’t know him but I survived being hit by a drunk driver 15 years ago when my children were still young, I was blessed to survive, now he wasn’t mine but at 56 i would trade my life for this young man to have his back too young, too innocent…
Rest in Peace and we will all see you in Paradise some day
Palm Beach Post article posted at 6:17 pm this evening:
“Don Decarteret, of Lake Worth, said he also thinks publicity over the wreck will soon die down and that it won’t do anything to dampen the number of people who come out to watch or tailgate and drink at polo matches.”
I will be at that canal next Sunday at 1pm to make sure the polo people NEVER FORGET! Will you be there too?
I am a Florida/Wellington resident currently residing in Brasil, and, must say I am deeply saddened by the news involving the loss of this young man. I am however as much disturbed by many of the comments posted here. As an American, I never realized how much resentment exists amongst other fello Americans between social classes. It seems that in America, like in third world countries, the rich are viewed with envy and disdain. Come on folks, do you have any idea what it takes to acquire wealth!? The sacrifices, the hard work, the commitments!? Please folks, show a little more respect, after all, we are a first world country! are we not?
Mr. Goodman should enjoy the presumption on inosence until proven otherwise. His wealth will only buy him a good defense — the rest is left to your system of justice. If you dont believe in it then overhaul it!
A tragedy on two fronts!
JP
JP,
A man is dead and you are “disturbed” with comments about social classes?
How about being ENRAGED about a driver running a stop sign at a high speed while possibly being drunk and/or on drugs?
I’ve heard from several sources who saw Goodman that night that he was drinking. Heavily.
From what I’ve gathered, Goodman fled to “call 911,” however, he was not the one who reported it. SEVERAL other people called in after seeing the debris.
Initial stories posted before names were released claimed that investigators were looking into speed, drugs and alcohol use.
Once names came out, reports say that they are looking into those factors as well as road conditions and technical malfunctionings. I’ll be damned if I think a Bentley had any problems other than the driver’s personal impairment.
The Palm Beach Daily had the audacity to close their article with two paragraphs about how Goodman backed 5 million dollars worth toward a Hillary and Haily Duff movie that no one has seen “because it promoted good family values”
Scott never drank, smoked or did drugs. He was the closest you will ever find someone to being perfect.
And now he’s gone.
To me, if Goodman doesn’t spend the rest of his life in prison for A. running a stop sign (at the least) B. Driving under the influence C. murdering someone and D. fleeing the scene, then I have absolutely no respect for the Sherriff’s department, the judicial system, Black, or anyone who else who played a part in hiding Goodman’s downright guilt including every single person at the event that witnessed him drink and didn’t come forward.
I am outraged by the Wellington and Palm Beach Polo community coming to the defense of “this goodman” John Goodman. Have they lost sight of: (A) at least, John Goodman ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed causing (B) the fatal collision with young, aspiring engineer, driving home to see his sister for her birthday, Scott Wilson driving legally, innocently, unexpectedly only to be killed by, (C) Goodman’s running a stop sign in his tank-built $200,000 + Bently, and (D) possibly [and likely probably] driving under the influence of alcohol abuse and/or drug influence, or else why (E) lawyer up with Roy Black — one of the leading and most expensive CRIMINAL DEFENSE attorneys in the country– can you spell William Kennedy Smith getting off his rape case in Palm Beach with Roy Black’s legal machinations????
Mr. Goodman, your family, your polo buddies and cronies– you killed a fine young man out of your selfishness and dissregard. You will not get away with this. Pay the millions to Roy Black. Spin the “sympathy” card in the sick, demented polo community of Wellington and Palm Beach. However, if our legal system works, Mr. Goodman, you are going to jail for many years where you belong.
My continuing prayers and condolences to the Scott Wilson family on your tremendous loss.
To John Goodman, you belong behind bars– for the maximum possible.
To Roy Black– do your job in the name of our Constitutional Rights–collect your millions from Goodman– and then try to sleep at night. I am confident you will have no problem, as the pimps in the world probably also sleep comfortably as well.
But remember Mr. Black — you are helping Mr. Goodman shirk the responsibilities of murdering a fine young man. You, Mr. Black, like Goodman, will eventually meet your maker. And, no power, connections, or money will save you from eternal misery. Be well, GSS
Does anyone know exactly how the boy died? I can only pray he did not sit there alive waiting for someone, anyone to come and save him. this thought keeps haunting me. i think the facts of his death will put JG away for a very long time. I hope the state brings a top prosecutor in to nail John for murder. you locals need to raise a big stink over this so the state doent even think of cutting John a deal.
I dont know what Mr. Black can say to defend his client - other than the hospital switched the blood samples and hair strands for the cocaine test. Mr. Goodman should at the very least have his passport taken immediately as he is an obvious flight risk.
WTF? Seriously … WTF?
Why hasn’t BAC been reported by newspaper, as in every other case…including many that involve celebrities?
Goodman should be in jail or out on a kazillion dollar bail. I am totally disgusted with Palm Beach Post for starting this story and not finishing the reporting on it. Don’t roll over on this one … although you and the police have obviously already done so.
Disgusted in Delray.
It is a very sad state of affairs. However , the very club he built is dedicated to getting its patrons trashed and allowing them to drive around wellington every sunday. It was bound to happen eventually.
Dear Jessica B, (#110)
PLEASE GIRL!
If I were you, I’d lay low and keep my mouth shut.
You’re likely to become a part of this investigation, and you don’t want the word to get out. Do you?
You know all about John Goodman’s little secrets, and you wouldn’t want to hurt your rich-a** friend.
May Goodman get what he has coming.
To MADD #122
Thank you very much for the information. On behalf of the family, I’ve contacted those you referenced & I will post any information regarding a formal demonstration in Scott’s name on this site. I, & other family members, have been following this blog & we’ve been passing along all the well wishes along to my Aunt (Lily), she truly appreciates all your support. Thank you all very much.
The death of someone’s is always tragic especially when the person causing the accident may have been on alcohol, passed a legal stop sign and was the cause of the death. I drive by this intersection dropping my child at the middle school across the street and it is a bad intersection but if people followed the rules and understood that driving is a privilege, everyone would be safe. I think this is the same school that some of Mr. John Goodman’s staff’s children attend or attended. Drinking and driving is never a good partnership. It destroys lives. If Mr. Goodman did leave the accident, OMG, the young spiritual soul of Scott Wilson, could have been alive today. My deepest sympathy to the Wilson Family. Oh, by the way, anyone who is supporting Mr. Goodman should be careful to post nice things first when you should be offering sympathies to the Wilson family first - they are grieving!!!
Many comments about this being an accident and what a great guy Mr. Goodman has always appeared to be. His true test will be in his handling of this situation. If it was an accident, then he needs to step up, make a statement and take responsibility for his actions. His silence is sending the message he has something to hide. A scripted response from his attorney is unacceptable. At this point, heard Mr. Goodman is not even confirming he was in the vehicle, basically telling the police & family they will have to prove it. I do not know if this information is true, I hope it is not. Anyone can make a bad decision or make a mistake. We will see the type of man he really is by his response or lack or response in the coming days.
Our opinion should count I hope other make comments on this issue our voices should be heard, if we ever want justice
JG a nice person and a rich person a fun person, when you drive drunk run a stop sign and kill someone what do you call him ?
driving drunk is wrong he should know better,
I’m sure this must be nightmare for John Goodman he has to live with this for the rest of his life. You can’t just pay the fine and go home
but he must be accountable.
This is sad for all. Still some respect for the victim Scott Wilson.
I am disgusted with the Post for writing such a disgusting publication
I don’t understand why this man JG should be glorified, since this young man was killed because of his negligence
If the court allows this man to go free we are sending a very bad message, how would we feel if this was our child that was killed?
The blood of Scott Wilson is calling out, so this will not happen again. Scott will be remembrance in our heart and maybe because of his death we can make this a better place to live, this will be a lesson for everyone that drinks and decides to drive.
my sincere simplicity to this family.
My sincere simplicity to Scott’s family I will pray for you all.
Scum like Goodman always throw money at charities for the tax write off. The guy is a scum bag who needs to spend the rest of his life in jail.
Dear CMT,
It’s Lili.
Love, your cousin.
Dear Anonymous #139,
How dare you? I work w/a lily & out of habit & grief because I can’t think straight that’s how I spelled it. That’s uncalled for. Why don’t you dot your i’s & cross your t’s instead of harassing those of us who are trying to get through this.
Goodman is heartless and ruthless. Crashes into a car and then doesn’t even attempt to save the kids life but leaves the scene. He would have been alive if someone helped. He left the kid to drown.Accidents happen but a normal reaction from any human being would be to try and save a victim and not run from the scene. COWARD
Apparently there were witnesses of the accident that called 911 and were trying to help Scott Wilson when police arrived and told them to get out of there. They pleaded with the officer who sarcastically stated get out of here unless you want to see a dead body. Apparently the police were not rushing to Scott Wilson’s aid which possibly could have saved his life. The autopsy revealed that he died as a result of drowning. The canal where his car crashed is only 2 feet of water! Maybe if the police and rescue workers had been faster in coming to aid Scott, he might have had a chance to live. Unfortunately, one may never will know … the police on the scene should be accountable as well. RIP Scott Wilson and prayers go out to his family and to John Goodman.
IT’S WAS SAD TO READ ABOUT THIS STORY. IT’S A HORRIBLE THING, RAISING AND CARING FOR YOUR CHILD. HOPING AND PRAYING THE VERY BEST FOR HIS LIFE. AND IN A FLASH A STUPID MISTAKE TAKES ALL OF HIS HOPES AND DREAMS AWAY. MY HEART GOES OUT TOWARDS HIS FAMILY.
IF NO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL PLAYED ANY PART OF THIS SITUATION, THEN THIS WAS A VERY UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT.
NOW IF HE WAS DRINKING, LOCK HIM UP AND THROW AWAY THE FUCKEN KEY. IT WAS HIS CHOICE TO DRINK AND DRIVE.
MAY GOD FORGIVE YOU JOHN GOODMAN, BECAUSE I SURELY WOULD NOT.
people with that wealth really should employ drivers, that way they can drink and do whatever they want without putting people in harms way… he can afford it
I worked for John Goodman’s dad at his ranch in texas back in the 90’s. The Goodman family members were always very nice and respectful to me even though I was just stable help. I think this is a tragedy and John should pay for his actions. But poor people drink and drive also. Let the judicial system work. As a mother I can’t imagine the pain the victims family is going thru.
I see these comments saying that what John did is terrible. I do belive it was a terrible thing to happen. You all act like he did this on purpose. I know John, he is a great person. He would never take the life of another on purpose. I’m sure he feels as terrible about himself as you feel about him. I fully understand how this hurts everyone that knew the other driver. My brother was killed in a car accident only a few miles from where this one had taken place, and alcohol was also involved. At first I hated the person that had taken his life, but you have to remember he has to live with the knowledge of what he did. You should take pity on him, not hit him with insults. I’m only 16 but I feel as though I understand this better than many of you commenting. I feel for the family of the other driver John is a good man and has my best wishes along with the family of the victim.
I too have lost two young members of my family due to the inexcusable actions of two different drunk drivers. John Goodman made the decision to drink and drive, and I have no doubt that Scott Wilson would be alive today, had Mr. Goodman hired a driver or called a taxi on February 12th after his night of drinking at the Player’s Club.
In my opinion, a person who drinks and drives while speeding through a stop sign is not a good person. A drunken driver is a danger to himself, society and all motorists and pedestrians that have the misfortune to cross his path.
I have read that Mr. Goodman’s former wife expressed concern regarding the safety of their two young children due to his alleged cocaine abuse. How would Mr. Goodman feel if his children were passengers in his Black Bentley on February 12th, and his Bentley landed in that canal on Lake Worth Road? Would Mr. Goodman have tried to save his own children from drowning? If John Goodman was truly a good man, he would have practiced self control and never have put himself in a position to endanger Scott Wilson’s or anyone else’s life and safety.
John Goodman needs to acknowledge his sins, including the killing of Scott Wilson, an innocent young man and pray for God’s mercy by truly repenting & changing his ways. John Goodman knows what happened, Scott Wilson knows what happened, and most importantly God knows what happened on February 12th. Mr. Goodman, if you are reading this, you are accountable to God and to everyone else that you have wronged as a result of your actions throughout your 46 years. When your time comes, I seriously doubt that Roy Black will be standing by the gates of heaven to welcome you in.
Hey remember ME. i use to work for you i was your maid. Hit me up on my myspace.
Now it is May, and still no charges?? Whatever happenned to “freedom and JUSTICE for ALL”?
Maybe he could do lunch with another guy on a free pass named tiger!
all you people supporting john goodman are ridiculous.just cause he helped your community out,you think people shouldnt talk down on him. thats were he got you.he helped you all up so he could get away with shit like this.so all of you would kiss his ass,all i have to say is he blew threw a stop sign and killed someone he should have gone to jail, everyone on this site knows he didnt just because of his name.if it was the other way around were scott killed john scott would have be locked up on the spot, sorry to the family of scott wilson.
Why aren’t we hearing about status of Goodman matter? Why isn’t the media calling attention to this. Surely someone in media can question PBSO and SAO spokespeople on status. WHY ISN’T THIS BEING DONE???
John should receive probation with a suspended licence. Pay a huge fine and be rquired to spend hundreds of hours of community service. Goodman has done wonders for Florida and despite the sick bloggers who are hoplessly jealous this was a tragic accident
I happen to know a close friend of John’s and the story is…….per John himself. He was drunk, he did leave the scene, went to a nearby neighborhood, asked to use the phone to call 911 but called his attorney instead who called 911 for him. The boy (Scott Wilson) died because he drown. I have to say that I am personally offended by the people who are saying that this was an “accident” that could have happened to anyone. NO, IT WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT! John made a decision, a bad one….to drink and drive and now a young man’s life is over and his family is left to suffer. Then he made another bad decision…..to leave the scene of the accident to go call his attorney while Scott Wilson drown to death. These were his decisions. If I am drinking, I am responsible for how I get myself from point A to point B. This would not happen to me. I am a responsible drinker who never, ever drives intoxicated. To make matters worse, John was sober enough after the tragedy to be concerned anough about his own butt to go call his attorney, no concern what-so-ever for the drowning victem. Rich people are labeled jerks and assholes because of this kind of behavior. It’s unfortunate but most of the time it’s true. I can tell you that the people that John runs with are bad people who do believe they are better than everybody else, believe they are above the law and are only concerned with themselves. I have never seen good people treated so badly as the people who have been unfortunate enough to cross paths with John and his buddies! RIP Scott Wilson, your family is in my prayers!
