Akon to play Wellington’s equestrian center

It’s like bringing Tiger Woods to a family values conference.

R & B superstar Akon, singer of Locked Up, is slated for a March 19 concert in the arena of the Wellington’s Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

There’ll also be a showjumping competition that night — the Puissance International, with a $25,000 purse.

The rapper caused a worldwide storm when he simulated a sex act on stage with the 15-year-old daughter of a preacher. The stunt cost him the sponsorship of Verizon.

Let’s see: highbrow and lowbrow in the same place? That could be fun!

You should consider rewording your paragraph about the showjumping competition. Consider a colon instead of a comma, and indicate that the $25K is actually a purse, not the name of the competition. You should also change the word “stint” to “stunt”. Finally, you use the word “meanwhile” as if the “stunt” Akon pulled was happening simultaneous to this announcement. I’m finished for now…

Who is the rocket surgeon that decided this? Ohhh… lets associate a thug gangsta with the horse community. Great job marketing people.

I’m not an Akon fan, but he’s definitely not a gangsta rapper. He’s almost R&B. Girls love him

I think Wellington and the show jumping world needs an injection of youthfulness into the schedule, why not have a concert to appeal more to the younger generation? Akon has been featured on more top 10 radio hits in the last few years than nearly any other artist, not to mention he helped launch the career of pop sensation Lady Gaga. I think he definately belongs in the pop / R&B genre. Should be fun!

I don’t care if it’s showing, all these Sec-8 Belle Glade scum bags have moved into Wellington and they are shoting each other every other week, Wellington needs to ban sec-8 or poor black people before Wellington is lost for ever. The cops do nothing!!!

Didn’t realize that the concert was going to be so incredibly loud. I understand it is an outside event but the music is so loud that my walls are vibrating. And I am not that close to the polo grounds where it is being held. I have to get up and go to class in the morning. There should be an ordinance regarding outside events regardless of the day. I am a fan of Akon but I don’t want to hear him all hours of the night while Im trying to sleep!!

My 17 year old white son and his hispanic friend had a blast. There were mostly white people there. Are you happy now, David? I see racism is running rampant in Wellington.

I attended this even, and I have to say the idea is very innovative. The venue made for an interesting crowd, the horse jumping competition was graceful and the performance was more than crowd pleasing. Akon is a great performer, this was my first Akon concert, definitely not the last!! Wonderful night!

Rachel, Go to wellington-wef.com to see what your neighbors thought of the concert. You’re not the only one. People are furious! There’s gonna be backlash from this! And the VOW is threatening a “series” of these concerts???? There’s going to be an uproar if that happens!
