Health care scare: Rush Limbaugh leaving the USA?

Palm Beach radio talker Rush Limbaugh is pulling an Alec Baldwin!

Ten years after the staunch Democrat star of 30 Rock swore he’d leave the country if George W. Bush won the White House, GOP leader Limbaugh said on his show Monday that he, too, would leave — if Prez. Barack Obama’s health care reform becomes law of the land!

Limbaugh said on his show (WJNO-1290 AM) Monday that he’d hightail it outtahere if doctors were banned from seeing private patients under the new health care plan.

“If it passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented — I’m leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica,” Limbaugh said.

But like Baldwin, who never made good on his promise even after two terms of Bush, Rush seems hesitant, and clarified his statement in this e-mail to Page2Live this morning: “If U.S. doctors aren’t allowed by law to see patients in private practice outside the coming government health care monopoly, I will consider leaving the country for any major medical treatment.”

Costa Rica?

El Rushbo tells me that insurance companies are already bankrolling clinics in that Central American country in anticipation of the reform.

What would you tell Rush?

Oh just go away Rush, no one will care, you will not be missed and you make most of us sick already.

He’s a lightning rod, but let’s put that aside for a second. Many of my clients are medical doctors in Palm Beach. Quite a few of them (enough to warrant noticing) are considering a return to India. Many of them are also planning to open practices in the Bahamas to treat Florida patients privately. I’m ignorant to the contents of the health care plan, but not ignorant to my clients’ reactions to it.

I wish NObama would GO AWAY instead!

  4. Comment by Pied Piper — March 9, 2010 @ 1:55 pm

I realize it’s difficult for some people to think when Limbaugh is involved, but just listen to what he’s saying. The government is telling doctors they can’t see patients who will pay them cash on the spot. What’s that got to do with insuring the 30-plus million uninsured?

  5. Comment by Diedrick — March 9, 2010 @ 2:06 pm

Go to Costa Rica, Rush….I hear they have some pretty good drugs there and plenty of officials that can be paid off to keep your shenanigans under wraps. Sounds right up your alley.

  6. Comment by JimC — March 9, 2010 @ 2:13 pm

I would tell the fatass to get an adult to read the health care plan to him because he’s so oxy-brained he has no idea what the plan will do. He won’t be going to Governmment Doctors- he needs a mental examination if that’s what he got out of the plan.

Makes me support the health care reform bill even more!!!!!!!! Who needs this hypocrytic trouble maker….the guy’s a racial idiot!!!!!!!!!

  8. Comment by Don — March 9, 2010 @ 2:21 pm

Good riddance! Of course, he’s just making all this up. The government is NOT going to prevent doctors from seeing any patients they choose. It would be obviously illegal.Limbaugh, like usual, is just trying to scare people with idiotic theories and conjecture. DON’T BELIEVE IT!!

What are you waiting for Rush? No one wants you here anyway. Your a hypocrate, and a hate monger. Why did all people involved in your drug case go to prison and you get a multi million dollar raise? You suck as a human being. There’s so much wrong with this country when sports figures and drug addicts make millions and school teachers can;t even get a cost of living increase. Rush is a peice of shit and shouldn’t even be breathing the same air as us.

Funny thing that few people notice: Our healthcare system is broken. That’s not an opinion, that’s a fact (unless of course you believe all the international and national reports and studies are part of a big conspiracy for a socialist takeover of the U.S.) Of course there are going to be people that have no problems or issues with their healthcare. But that does not mean there isn’t a problem. Stated differently, just because you own a Toyota with defective parts that hasn’t given you any problems does not mean there isn’t a problem with defective parts in Toyotas. Everyone understanding the reasoning? Yet people like Rush Limbaugh LIE to pit people against each other so no one’s talking about how to fix healthcare; rather they come up with cute nicknames like “NObama” or call Rush a fatass. This does NOTHING to fix the problem. Do yourself a favor, do some independent research on the subject. Maybe even use your brain and think about it. Think about questions like, “why are police and firefighers paid for by the government?” “Don’t insurance companies already tell you what doctor you can go to and what treatment you can have? (ever heard the phrase “in network” or “not medically necessary”). Do some research on the healthcare systems of other countries and find out, overall, if it’s as bad as Rush says. Sure you are going to hear horror stories, but there are no shortage of horrific stories in our system either (like the teenager who was denied a liver transplant by Wellpoint. After her mother went public and stirred up a lot of coverage of the story, Wellpoint caved and decided to pay for the surgery. The kid died on the way to the hospital). SHE HAD INSURANCE. This is the case that caused long time Wellpoint executive Wendell Potter to quit and speak out in favor of reform. There’s a lot more to this issue than catch phrases like “government takeover” and “socialism.” Anyone realize the current bill has NO PUBLIC OPTION whatsoever and is merely a means to reform the current private system. And Rush is afraid of the government healthcare monopoly from a bill that no provision for even a government “option?” Use some common snense and don’t believe everything you hear just because it comes through a television or radio transmission or, even worse, is posted on the internet.

  32. Comment by See Ya — March 9, 2010 @ 3:34 pm

Rush, why wait? Leave now! Why leave a country in which you have the right to be outlandsih, arrogant, racist, foolish, and become a millionaire while carrying those characteristics I just outlined! You just mad you won’t be able to get your “PRESCRIPTIONS” or get high, my fault! Open up a can of HAUL AZZ! Play like Michael Jackson and beat it!

  33. Comment by Chris Man — March 9, 2010 @ 3:34 pm

I’m against healthcare reform, but now hope it passes just so he leaves the country. Thats how LARGE of a useless wind bag he is.

  34. Comment by Mary Coban — March 9, 2010 @ 3:37 pm

Actually, I would leave the country also if I weren’t allowed to see a doctor in private practice and needed major medical assistance. Whether you hate or love Rush, the American People will have a total rebellion on that issue. Too bad there isn’t more passion and conversation on the issue instead of bashing a radio personality. Perhaps it’s too easy to bash someone than stand up for what you believe in?

  35. Comment by Jennifer — March 9, 2010 @ 3:37 pm

  36. Comment by TemptationThyNameIsRush — March 9, 2010 @ 3:39 pm

If only it were that easy!! While most of us (by “most uf us” I mean the majority of Americans with common sense who actually pay attention and check things out for themselves - you know, those who understand that FOXnews is an oxymoron) are very much aware that this is yet another GOP shill lie (do we really want more of these in the FL and US congress?), I gotta tell ya - if it would get this druggie blowhard out of the country I’d be mighty tempted to consider requesting that they add it to the bill - we could always change it after he’s gone LOLOL

  37. Comment by Op-Editor — March 9, 2010 @ 3:40 pm

Well, not exactly. He said he’d go to Costa Rica for health care and medical treatment, not that he’d move outta the country. Listen to the clip for yourself and get your info third hand. Getting your info from the media is like playing the childhood game of telephone.

  40. Comment by See Ya — March 9, 2010 @ 3:42 pm

    Mary,
No one is bashing Rush. Everything we say is the truth, unless you like him? I guess he just fooled you. If you believe what he says, then you are crazy just like him. Just think about what you just said? Re-read it and see if it makes sense to you? Thought so!

Not sure why this guy cares so much. He is a billionaire with the best possible healthcare in the world. Insurance is one of the industries that need to be regulated. Oil and big pharma are next. They industries provide a critical service to the people of the US and can no longer be allowed to steal from consumers. Some people think or are lead to think that this is socialism. But what about price control? That is what we see with big oil. This country is more in danger of becoming an Oligarchy than socialistic.

Take obama and pelosi with you. and half of these post readers. Maybe you dead beats can get a job at mcd’s and get your own health care. and how is it reform when the whole system is torn down where 300 million people have health care to give health care to the 15 mill that need it. wait we already have it its called medicade and medicare. You all should be ashamed of your selfs not providing for your selfs relying on others to pick up your slack. remember the ants and the grasshoper story. plus it takes 4 years to even see any results from this monstrosity of a bill. its like buying a car and making payments for 4 years before you can even drive it. and you call rush a fool. funny libtards living off other peoples hard work where you can just complain and whine about what your not getting instead of looking for what you can do for yourselfs.

But we should all be thinking and talking about health care. And we ALL should be demanding we get to vote on this health care reform. We need to be allowed to vote on this!! Let us vote!! Please do us a favor and go. We do not need bigoted hate mongers like this douchebag.Pulling in over 400 million dollars annually, Rush has no idea what it is like to have no healtcare. You wouldn’t have been able to afford all of those drugs you took or those hearing aids that you wear from drug addiction, or the Viagra you got caught with at the airport after visiting those young girls (boys?) in Central America, etc. Good ridance I say.

  58. Comment by OBIWAN — March 9, 2010 @ 4:47 pm

None of you understand this Senate bill IS a govt takeover of HealthCare!! Another 17% of the US economy will be under the dominion of pinhead bureaucrats that can’t manage anything they touch right now!!

SNAP doubled the last decade. You really think 40 million US citizens are hungry?? As ludicrous as 26 million of the 49 million k-12 students are Title One - free bkfst, lunch, snacks and afterschool care??

They are pandering for even more welfare as we speak. A $150 Billion “JOBS BILL”?? How exactly does extending unemployment by $28 B, paying states $26 B for more Medicaid, etc. etc. help us get any new jobs?? And tell us why all the European nations turned against spending their way out, did not extend unemployment BECAUSE the history is it extends unemployment…

Rush did not say he was leaving the US. Rush said IF US doctors are prevented by the bureaucrats from seeing patients on a cash basis - outside of the govt mandated “perfect practice patterns” - he would go to Costa Rica for offshore medical help.

Can’t happen?? You best review the CMS website closely. Kathleen Sebelius has ignored current laws, has not hired a CMS Director - but did create a CZARist Office of Health Reform with 9 Senior puppets and zero intel on how big it has gotten already!!

Meantime Sebelius is the worst in history of HHS!! Medicare Advantage posts their monthly enrollment counts for Feb, 2010. CMS has Medicare as of June, 2008, Medicaid @ 2005?? CMS has all the enrollment data for both - will ask Census Bureau to estimate them …AGAIN??

For all of you who think this bill is a good idea, you should ask someone in Canada, G.B., or France. People wait months for cancer treatments, etc. This bill is nothing but our radical socialist President moving forward on his agenda to ruin the USA.

I have been a voting Republican for almost thirty years now. I have read the above comments with great ammusement. But,it is with great mutual respect and admiration that I happen to agree with the 80% of participants of this poll who have voted for Rush to go keep his word. Rush, Go with wind, Go quickly along with the other naysayers that keep the party party no from being a party of unity. A party that people would fall over each other to join. The time has come for a national concensus on health care for all Americans and the time is Now. Not only do we have a right to bare arms but we also have a right to bare common sense. I believe Health Care will pass. JC

  65. Comment by Alas — March 9, 2010 @ 5:10 pm

I don’t know why Rush doesn’t want insurance for all. After all, it was insurance that pays for his Viagra because he can’t get it up without proper meds. It was insurance that caught up with his pain pill addiction and paid for his rehabbing, so he could function again and not be a drug addict. Why would he be opposed to something that benefits America and American and will help us catch up to the rest of the civilized world? He obviously has not seen Sicko by Michael Moore. Rush is not stupid, he just needs to be exposed to more ideas.

The entire health care system in America is designed PRECISELY for guys like Limbaugh. Champaigne and caviar treatment….if you can afford it. But for 3/4 of us, it’s crushing premiums, scary co-pays…..and getting our coverage dropped at the first sign of any serious medical conditions.

Pass real healthcare reform that gives us at least basic care. As for El Rushbo? Don’t let the door hitcha in the Limbaugh.

    Rush,
If this scam passes, most likely we will all have to go elsewhere for healthcare. I’ve experienced this kind of healthcare system. Make an appointment, show up with 100 others for that day that have the same appointment the same day….take a number….wait all day….At about 4:30 in the afternoon….get told to come back the next day. That’s because all the best doctors will quit. Why be a slave doctor to Obamacare???Why be any kind of slave to Obama? Go collect food stamps and watch tv.

Doctors will not be banned from seeing private patients under any form of the new health care bill. But please, Rush, do leave the country. That should be incentive enough for congress to pass the bill!

  94. Comment by Ed — March 9, 2010 @ 8:41 pm

BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Who cares about Rush? I don’t! pack your bags and take your fat rear and all your pain pills and any other yahoo who wants to join you!

    What an ignorent fool!

We have had universal health care in Canada for over 50 years, while not perfect it is far superior to the US System.

    Good riddance to bad rubbish!

It is just amazing to see all the Pure-As-The-Driven-Snow libtards taking shots at Rush - as if he gives a flying yee-haw about what any of you braindead morons think of him. A self-made man, a multi-millionaire with a high-school education - how do you bozos match up?
The person who should really be leaving the country is the Enemy-of-the-People - the Marxist-Maggot-In-Charge, Head Baby-Killer and Infanticide-Commander-In-Chief, everybody’s favorite bowing & scraping apologist, the one, the only Barry Soetoro The Fraud, AKA hmmmmmmm, hmmmmm, hmmmmm, Barack Hussein MAObama. Keep sitting on the sidelines morons and watch your country, your rights and your freedoms be taken away from you by the worst disaster ever to sit in the Awful/Offal/Oaf-full Office. You won’t be so smug if the menace isn’t defeated soon.

Re Pofloks1968 comment: The reason Limbaugh is only a high school grad is because he flunked every single college course he took. He’s made a fortune out of being a racist which is not something to brag about.
He obviously doesn’t know or understand the complex issues and throws out inflammatory statements to cover up his ignorance. It’s hard to understand why anyone would believe what this fool has to say.

  109. Comment by Mannix — March 10, 2010 @ 2:35 am

This blog is right out of the movie ‘Idiocracy’ !

    Rush’s email clearly states, “if US Doctors aren’t allowed by law to see patients in private practice…. I’ll consider leaving the country for any major medical treatment.” {he isn’t moving there you dopes}

A gov’t healthcare monopoly [Obama's/Reid's/Pelosi's desire] that WILL NOT allow anyone to purchase treatment… imagine not being allowed to go to Walgreens and get a flu shot, not going to any walk-in clinic and purchase treatment, a sick kid in a rural area who’s parents can’t pay for housecall type physician visit, any doctor appt…. and on and on.
A GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE MONOPOLY would impose this on everybody, that means most of you 100+ bloggers would be compelled to do the same thing Rush would. Believe it !! THINK

Canadians are practically in the same scenario Rush presented here. THEY DO COME ACROSS THE BORDER TO PURCHASE HEALTHCARE FOR MAJOR MEDICAL TREATMENT !!

    I D I O C R A C Y …. see the movie you dopes; have a laugh and try some old fashioned thought- pass it on.

  110. Comment by june — March 10, 2010 @ 7:33 am

No!!!!!!!!Rush say it ain’t so. Don’t Leave Who else can keep me so entertain while I DO MY PAIN PILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  111. Comment by Bill D — March 10, 2010 @ 8:36 am

How ironic - Rush would leave the US should it get healthcare reform for treatment in a country that has government backed healthcare! And what idiots think that there is any way to prohibit the hiring of private medical personnel regardless of the type of healthcare reform that is passed in this country? The rich will always be able to hire their own doctor just like Michael Jackson did - how ironic.

Apparently there is dissent in the house:
Melania told the Donald she does not want Rush coming to M-a-L anymore because she finds his presence disruptive, intrustive and unpleasant. Master D. likes the attention Rush brings the ol castle. CHEERS

  116. Comment by Aubrey — March 10, 2010 @ 2:03 pm

Libs are an ever shrinking loud minority. Their numbers are diminishing. The more frustrated they are the louder and more annoying they become. Rush and all Conservatives enjoy poking Libs to agitate them. They are so easily set off. All they can do is lash out like rabid dogs. They really have become a laughing stock.

    LOL !!

WHAT A BUNCH OF CHUMP LOSERS YOU ALL ARE!

I heard the broadcast and he said.. “i’ll leave the country……FOR HEALTH CARE”! MORON MEDIA GOT IT WRONG… AS USUAL…. Hey good luck with all the HOPE AND CHANGE… and hows that stimulus working out…. over a trillion dollars and I see the new Palm Beach County unemployment rate is 12.5 percent and climbing….. nice…….

  118. Comment by herbert dickens — March 10, 2010 @ 7:44 pm

Rush Limbaugh who NEVER graduated from college should take his hate and venom to Costa Rica. The American public is TIRED of his ignorance on so many issues. He needs to go back to college and learn some things about life. How anyone can listen to his hatred is beyond me. He will never leave America, he will die of a heart attack first. He is a walking time-bomb with pathetic health issues that will eventually consume his OVER-WEIGHT body.

Look how many of you refuse to debate the facts/issues and resort to name calling.
Look how many show they have no idea what is in this bill or even possibly will be in it with their off the top of the head refutations of Limbaugh’s perfectly logical and historically based comment.
How many of you are ingnorant of the fact that it is government over-regulation which has caused the cost of healthcare to skyrocket? Are you aware that doctors are forced to operate under medicaid/medicare restrictions already? It is this government mandate which has caused crisis and has taken the cost of care out of the free market. This the result of the socialism already forced on us, and any of you would consider more of this now proven disaster on us?

  121. Comment by Jill — March 11, 2010 @ 12:27 am

    Re: Dix
Medicare/Medicaid is a small portion of the healthcare market compared to employer-sponsored insurance which covers about 80% of us. I worked for a 2 large health insurance companies and I know very well that the government put NO restrictions on them. That’s the problem, they can charge whatever they want. So you are defending Limbaugh who is just as much of an ignoramous as you are. The system proposed now is anything but socialism. You need to go back to school and read the newspaper once in a while.

  122. Comment by Mannix — March 11, 2010 @ 1:35 am

JILL– The majority of American citizens DO NOT want Obama/Pelosi/Reid’s P.O.S. universal healthcare…, “anything but socialism…” (?) huh?
We now enjoy the freedom to buy medical treatment AS WE CHOOSE, whether an ins policy, an employment benefit option, or cash-on-delivery treatment; and that is what Joe Zeta’s column is about: a no-options GOV’T MONOPOLY.

    R E P E A T - A GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE MONOPOLY
    O N C E A G A I N - GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE MONOPOLY
