Attorneys representing the mother of a recent college graduate who died after his car was struck by Wellington polo mogul John Goodman’s Bentley are launching their own investigation into the crash that killed her son.
Jack Scarola, a partner at the high-profile West Palm Beach law firm Searcy, Denney, Scarola, Barnhart and Shipley, said the firm is starting from scratch its own probe into the death of Scott Wilson, 23.
International Polo Club Palm Beach founder Goodman suffered minor injuries in the Feb. 12 accident. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and State Attorney are conducting a criminal investigation. They’re not expected to decide before May whether charges will be filed against Goodman.
Said Scarola: “We will independently and thoroughly investigate. It’s highly unlikely that there’ll be a single lead that we won’t follow.”
Scarola said the firm has been representing Wilson’ mom Lili in other matters. He said the firm’s involvement “could include civil action arising from the death.”
Goodman visited two parties before the crash, and authorities seized credit card receipts showing Goodman paid for 18 shots of booze less than an hour before he allegedly blew through a stop sign and struck Wilson. And Page2Live revealed Monday that fire rescue workers failed to find Wilson’s body in his car, which was partly submerged in a canal after the Bentley hit it.
“They’re not expected to decide before May whether charges will be filed against Goodman.” What is this. If anyone else was driving the vehicle, they would have filed charges right away. Two justice systems. One for the rich, and the other for the poor.
That’s not exactly true “T”. Law enforcement has a responsibility to have all of their “I’s” dotted and “T’s” crossed before they arrest anyone or else they jeopardize the outcome of the case. As soon as the arrest is made, the clock starts ticking and without toxicology and crime scene reports in order this man very well could walk. I suggest you do a little recent history research and you will find that most vehicular homicide arrests happen months after the incident. None of us like that someone who caused avoidable pain to so many is walking around a free man. Have faith that his days are numbered.
Everybody calm down and let the investigation take it’s necessary course so when this comes to charges, arrest and/or trial, it has been handled properly. The public has no right or need to pre-judge the driver involved in this death. Better that the case is slowly, carefully and accurately handled for the benefit of the family of the individual who lost his life. Ultimate and fair justice is more important than “news” and “information” available to the public, who are not family of either individual nor suffering the consequences of this horrible situation.
It does no good to attempt to educate T and the dozens of others who post comments on these blogs and who know nothing of the criminal justice system. They don’t want no stinkin education.
T and others gain a little fulfillment to their empty lives by drooling over their computers waiting for new Goodman articles to which they can comment. It’s apparent John Goodman killed Mr. Wilson and he should be punished. But John Goodman has also contributed greatly to the community - created jobs, gave and raised money for charities, generated large amounts of tax revenue, etc.. In other words, he’s done a hell of lot more good than any of the moronic hate mongers who post comments on these blogs about Goodman.
Well stated Fred. The losers who will soon fill this blog with ignorant postings are in no position to cast stones. Goodman will pay for this in many ways for the remainder of his life. But at least he’s contributed many things to our community - something the goons who post on these blogs have never done.
And so it starts… Fred C. Dobbs and Larissa, telling everyone that John Goodman may have a problem…but he does lot’s of good, and just perhaps, he’s not such a bad guy. Roy Black could have written these posts himself. I wonder if he did.
Yes it does start nemo. As one who has been involved in the criminal justice system and involved in charitable organizations and who met John Goodman several times, I’m going to start firing back at the ignorant rants that are spewed on this web site. I have some observations and questions:
- Instead of Goodman, if it were some unknown schmo who had no money and who contributed nothing to our community, would you or you other bloggers or the Palm Beach Post be paying any attention to this? Almost all of us have been touched by DUI homicides but I’ve never seen the attention this one has received. In all cases the victim’s family deserves compensation and the perp deserves punishment. But the unnecessary, ignorant hatred is not needed.
- I’ve seen people on this blog refer to Goodman as “arrogant”, “selfish” etc.. That’s bullshit and they’ve obviously never met him nor are they aware of his charitable character and actions.
- I’ve seen allegations on this blog that there’s a coordinated cover-up being conducted by the PBSO, SA and others. And of course everyone’s getting paid-off. Again bullshit and again these people do not know what they’re talking about. Many just see a rich guy with a Jewish last name, and they begin to find meaning with their worthless lives to attack him (anonymously).
So nemo, I suggest to you and the other brainless morons that you either shutup unless you can present some facts or demonstrate to the rest of us that you are qualified to cast stones and pass judgement on others.
Otherwise, let the CJS and civil courts handle this situation and find something worthwhile to do with your lives.
Larissa, do you John and Stacy Shore have 3 somes? You gotta be one of his Ho’s too. Its really bad that money blinds peope in society. Obviously the free drink and meals Goodman bestowed upon you are worth more than this innocent mans life. SICK!
Keily, I know nothing of Goodman’s love life but you are obviously beset with jeolousy. And in your case it’s class-envy that blinds you. And of course you revert to the tired Ho reference which is typical of those with no communicative or literary skills or, phrased in a manner you can understand - someone who is stupid. And the only free meals I had provided by Goodman were those at charity events he sponsored.
Your last comment begs the question, can you add single digit numbers without using your fingers?

I do not doubt that Mr. Goodman is basicaly a good person, but in a severe lack of maturity and judgement he has taken a persons life, in so doing he has fallen pray to the white trash of Lambiet and his followers from west of I-95.
In many other countries this would be avenged by a member of the dead persons family, espeacialy with the lengthy deliberations of the authorities, therefore this family has opened their own investigation since we live in a suposed country of laws.
Had this happened in Riviera Beach and the driver been of few means said person would be at the Trump Hotel on Gunclub Road.
Until the post rids itself of this kind of reporting the circulation will continue to dwindle, it is not doing the community any good on the contrary they are harming it.

I’m sure that The “good works” of Goodman will be continued by Mrs. Wilson when she is hopefully awarded the Polo Club as a result of the civil suit!!
The one basic fact in this case is that Goodman caused the death of Scott Wilson and people believe that the Justice System is taking a long time to react. And by the way, who ever said that Goodman was a Jewish name. Are you trying to inject anti-semitism into this case?

It really is disgusting to read many of the comments these past few weeks that have been posted to the Goodman articles.
Many of you should divert your hatred to perps who have deliberately killed, raped and tortured victims and loved it and do it repeatedly. From the accounts I’ve read John Goodman was a good and charitable person who has made a terrible mistake. He should be punished and pay for this mistake. But I agree with Larissa. Many of you live unremarkable lives so you enjoy seeing the anguish being caused by someone who was a good and prominant person and you enjoy attacking that person. Gives you a sense that you are now better than Goodman. Well, let me advise that people such as Reily are still miserable people who contribute nothing to society. Her big accomplishment for the week was to anonymously refer to Larissa as a Ho. Wonder how long it took her to come up with something so clever?
And Abe, yes the name Goodman is overwhelmingly Jewish. I know three Goodman families (unrelated to John) and all are Jewish. So please grow up and face reality.
The facts are being revealed everyday and more will come to light. Goodman being verbally attacked in these posts has nothing to do with him being Jewish. People are disgusted because a great kid lost his life to this over indulgent person who was “more than likely under the influence of drugs and alcohol” according to the sheriffs dept. His lifestyle was well known, look at what he put his ex wife and children through with his cocaine abuse as revealed in court filings. All you people who are defending him are doing so because you benefitted from this man in some material way. Fancy dinners, charity events, and designer dresses do not equate to the value of a life. See how you would feel if he killed someone in your family. Hopefully none fo these POLO groupies will be in the jury if this goes to trial.

The leaving the scene of an accident charges will be out the window if he was passed out at the time of the crash. That would have added many years to any sentence he may receive for DUI/manslaughter if convicted.
His being unconscious at the time would explain a lot. If he was passed out at the time of the accident he may not have even realized he’d hit another car, plus the other car had been pushed into the canal and was not there to see when he woke up. So he may not have realized there was anyone else hurt and in need of help, and perhaps that is why he seems to have taken his time walking down the road to a phone and didn’t try to rescue the guy himself.

John Goodman did not contribute a single thing to Wellington without expecting a profit or self recognition PERIOD! Then he stole a young man’s life. Goodman is a spoiled drug addict that kept PB dealers in business. This clownsquandered his daddy’s money.
