Soccer superstar David Beckham disses Palm Beach’s Malcolm Glazer

To the rest of the world, L.A. Galaxy superstar David Beckham’s gesture Wednesday night didn’t mean much.

But in England, it was the equivalent of Becks flipping the bird at Palm Beacher Malcolm Glazer!

Heartthrob Beckham, who’s with AC Milan in Europe when U.S. soccer is off in winter, was lingering on the pitch after playing against his old Manchester United squad when a fan handed him a green-and-gold scarf.

Beckham put it around his neck.

And the Brit media went nuts.

Yep. Just of a scarf.

What’s the big deal?

Find out by looking below, or click

Glazer

Glazer

Glazer, the 81-year-old owner of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, borrowed heavily to buy ManU in 2005 for $1 billion.

In a country where the great American pastime of buying something with someone else’s money is frowned upon, fans smelled a rat. And immediately took a real dislike to Glazer.

Glazer, who sold one of his Palm Beach mansions last year for $24 million and then started renovations on a $22 million-beachfronter a few blocks away, immediately raised United ticket prices. He sold its most popular players.

And now that Manchester United is even deeper in the hole, dislike has turned to hatred — and unhappy fans started wearing green and gold (the colors of the old Manchester club 100 years ago) scarves in protest.

Incidentally, Glazer has been so scared of Manchester fans since he bought the club that he hired extra security guards in Palm Beach. Once, he called Palm Beach Police to report a helicopter innocently hovering over his ‘hood, fearing the rabid ManU supporters were on to him.

But so far, no green-and-gold hooligan has showed up on his doorsteps — yet.

No one picked up the phone of Glazer’s home in Palm Beach.

This is exactly why we should all appreciate Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavericks owner). For all the things he isn’t - he sure is a great owner. Glazer, and many others buy teams to make money, and know nothing about the players, fans, or the culture of the club.

He is on S Ocean, just four homes to the south of Jeff Picower. He is right on the bend as you are heading north on A1A before you get to Southern.

What the Glazers have done to the most highly regarded football team in England is horrid. I spent a lot of time in Manchester and know from first hand experience the hatred the Manchester fans feel towards their American owners. Manchester is a lovely place, but does have its fair share of working class people who, until 2005, could still afford their season tickets which were usually in their families for many, many years. The Glazers have NO idea what they’ve done to that city by raising the ticket prices and putting that long established club in debt, HUGE debt. (as well as making it next to impossible for the core fan base to continue to watch their beloved team play each week) Shame on them for taking something so dear from a people and a city and an establishment they certainly do NOT understand.

Perhaps the Glazers should pay attention to the way Roman Abramovich, (the Russian billionaire who owns Chelsea), does it in a foreign country. He at least pays for great players and keeps it within the reach of the fan base in London.

Sell Man U Mr. Glazer, for the team’s sake, the city’s sake, and for your own sake.

    Long live Manchester United!!!

    A die-hard American, female fan.

Old Trafford Stadium is sacred ground to many, many people and with good reason.

Tu Madre, they say ignorance is bliss. You must be one happy chappy.
1998-9 Eliminated Inter Milan & Juventus. 2002-3 Beat Juventus home and away. 2006-7 Dumped Roma, winning 7-1 at home. 2007-8 Roma again.
I’d invite you over to Manchester to inspect my teeth but doubt you own a passport.

Does David Beckham’s mom take him to games in a minivan? That’s how most soccer players in this country get to games. I’d write more, but it’s soccer. who cares?

Soccer is for wimps who can’t stand contact sports like football.

The UK like all of Europe is full of hoodlums who riot at these games. They make the white trash trailer parks of the US look like mansions.

Thank God my people were tired of low class Europe and came to the US.

The Brits take footbal (AKA soccor)very seriously, as well they should. MAN U is my team of choice and wathching Rooney and Ronaldo play off each other was like watching a great artist at work. Ronaldo went off to greener monetary pastures at Real Madrid, though, and the show was over. Me thinks Manchester gave him up too easily, as he was still under contract. Don’t know the cause, but all roads might lead to Palm Beach. Seems like an American tradition is in the making. Remember the Marlins and their dispersion after the winningnest season?

F–k Malcolm Glazer. He’s trying to ruin Manchester United. You cannot Americanize everything out there. Becks stood up to the bastard, as many are. They want him to sell the club.

Dearest Jerome, thanks for the history of Man-U footy. Sorry, I cannot come to Manchester to check out your teeth as I am not a dentist nor do I have any medical training other then a CPR class I took in college. Remember to brush in the morning and before going to bed, floss, and use mouthwash after meals. Thats all I can recommend, Jerome, good luck.

As fer Chelski, they are run by a Russian-Jewish gangster thief, hows that workin’ for ya?

    West Ham United!!!

Tu Madre - you may want to do a little research before running your stupid yap. Beckham is a life long United supporter and still revered by the United faithful. The Glazers took the biggest and wealthiest SPORTS FRANCHISE in the world, yes, even much bigger than the NY Wankees, and turned them into a debt ridden team. They hardly ever show up for games which speaks volumes of their support. As for selling our best players, we bought Ronaldo for 12mil pounds got a few good years out of him then sold him for 80mil pounds. Not a bad return on investment. He wanted to leave or he would never have been sold. I would be hugely surprised if Rooney ever leaves United because he doesn’t want to so they won’t sell him at any price. Besides, United are a better “team’ without Ronaldo because they play as a team and not for Ronaldo.

Another team being destroyed by yanks is Liverpool FC. Man Utd’s fiercest rivals. Yanks should stay out of sports they don’t know squat about, and keep to that stupid game that is 60 minutes long, takes over 3 hours to complete yet only has an average of 10 minutes and 46 seconds of actual ball-in-play time. You know, the game that needs cheerleaders on the sidelines so there’s actually something interesting to watch while the game is on. The game you all call “football” for some unknown reason, which should actually be called “slap my buddy on the arse - runny catchy”

You can come look at my teeth anytime you moron. And they’re TEETH, not caps, crowns, veneers, dentures or anything else that you lot seem to think are teeth, that do nothing but keep your orthodontists boat payments current

How could this happen , where were the fans as this Great Team was being sent to ruin. I am an recent footballer fan two years ago I made M.U. my team of choice , how many of the original team are still together? God the money hungry owner of M.U. Should be hung in effigy. Balls cried the Queen , if I had any I would be King11111

Born and bred Red, not ALL American owners are that bad. I don’t see too many Aston Villa fans complaining about Randy Lerner - in fact, he’s been the source of a lot of praise. Reason? He CARES about his team.

(Also, ANYONE’S better than that cheap dinge Doug Ellis.)

    Up the Villains!!!

Tu Madre, lesson #2. Abramovich at Chelsea and Mansour at Manchester City are sugar daddies, responsible for players wages going through the roof. Manchester United created their own wealth and were ticking along nicely until the leveraged buy-out.
Word is over here that Glazer snr shafted his own sisters. Looking at his offspring I can believe it.

  22. Comment by Born and bred red — March 12, 2010 @ 11:53 am

Dr. Bob - You are correct about Lerner, and I appreciate that he’s giving Martin O’Neill a job until Sir Alex Ferguson decides to retire!!! ;o) Seriously, I’m happy Villa are up there challenging to make it “the big five” instead of big four, because Villa have a great history too. Although it looks like they’re just replacing Liverpool in the big four. As for Chelski, that team is just a way for Abramovich to launder his Russian mafia money. If Chelski don’t win the Champions League soon he’ll get bored and just launder his money on race horses or something else.
