John George, the once high-flying, publicity-seeking north county builder, was arrested by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies today on a warrant from Sarasota County.
He’s accused of stealing money from would-be homeowners in that area of Florida’s west coast.
Palm Beach Gardens resident George, 58, is the father of Chris and Jeff George, the twin brothers whose clinics throughout Palm Beach County were raided by authorities last month on the suspicion that they peddled pain pills to addicts.
The elder George, who once built a home for the Riviera Beach family of a cancer patient live on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in 2006, is being held at the county lockup in West Palm Beach on $500,000-bond. The warrant is for five counts of misappropriation of construction funds.
“He was arrested at his home this morning,” said PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera. “He was very polite, very nice. He agreed to accompany the deputy. He didn’t seem to understand what the warrant was about.”
Details on the charges were not immediately available. But the warrant was originated by the North Port Police Department, whose public information specialist was not working today.
