No tears, plenty of love for retiring Channel 5 anchorwoman Chandra Bill

WPTV-Channel 5 anchorwoman Chandra Bill retired from the news biz this week after 24 years in the local television. She was feted by some of her current and former colleagues Friday night at John Bull English Pub in West Palm Beach. Bill is among a slew of Channel 5ers who have left over the past months, or who are packing their bags. Click on the Michael Price photo for a gallery of the party:

Palm Beach radio talker Rush Limbaugh swore off marriage after three ill-fated attempts at domestic bliss.

But that was before he met striking West Palm Beach resident Kathryn Rogers, a woman half his age and a direct descendant of founding father John Adams; Before she nursed him through a heart attack; And before she laid some balm on the Conservative firebrand’s bruised ego when the NFL rejected him as potential owner of the St. Louis Rams.

For once, El Rushbo is eating his words.

Limbaugh, 59,  is set to marry the 33-year-old Rogers next week in an intimate ceremony at his beachfront compound.

Limbaugh didn’t confirm any details but asked for privacy in an email to Page2Live.

“We try to live our lives as normal people,” Limbaugh wrote. “We do NOT seek media attention, we do not want it, especially for this. It is very special, obviously, and we just don’t want any media attention.”

Rogers, a VIP liaison on the last two super bowls in South Florida, has been sporting a blinding sparkler on her ring finger for more than a year now.

No word yet on the guest list, menu or dress code but stay tuned.

The couple sent out invitations to family and friends in February. If you haven’t received yours, don’t bother crashing. Security will be tight.

Nice catch: Delray politico Nick Loeb lands Hollywood starlet Sofia Vergara

Voters may not have liked Florida Senate and Delray Beach City Commission candidate Nick Loeb, but ABC sitcom star Sofia Vergara sure seems smitten.

In trust-funder Loeb, 34, who lost or quit every political race he entered, the breathtaking Colombia-born star of the sitcom Modern Family (Wednesdays, WPBF-Channel 25) is said to have found the man of her dreams.

Masilotti crony Bill Boose named in lawsuit over land deal

Boose (The Palm Beach Post)

Boose (The Palm Beach Post)

UPDATE: BILL BOOSE SAYS ASSET SHIFTING IS SOUND BUSINESS PRACTICE, NOT DESIGNED TO CHEAT ANYONE. SEE HIS QUOTES BELOW.

Some people just never learn!

A little more than two years ago, West Palm Beach lawyer Bill Boose was sentenced to 24 months in a federal prison for his role in a corruption scandal. Once one of the area’s most powerful political puppeteers, Boose pleaded guilty to a felony for his role in helping former County Commish Tony Masilotti hide his interest in a crooked land deal.

The 65-year-old Boose was let go from his prison camp early in June. He is on his last two weeks of probation, and his three-year suspension from the Florida Bar ends in August.

Now this: Boose’s name has popped up in a lawsuit in which the ex-wife of a business partner says companies partly controlled by Boose were used to hide her hubby’s assets.

Songbird Celine Dion just can’t shut up about wanting another child splashing around in her personal water park on Jupiter Island.

Nearly a year after announcing in the press that she and her elderly hubby/impresario, Rene Angelil, are trying to have a second kid, the couple has talked about nearly each artificial insemination attempt.

And The singer of My Heart Will Go On, 42, took to the airwaves of The Wendy Williams Show (twice daily on WFLX-Channel 29) yesterday to chat about it some more.

Her reason for all the hoopla, La Dion told Williams: She doesn’t want her fans to live their lives not knowing whether or not she’s preggers! For her sake and ours, I hope this one’s the one.

Liens rain on giant land baron Herb Kahlert

kahlert1

Kahlert

One of Palm Beach County’s largest land barons is facing dozens of liens on hundreds of acres today after his ex-wife sued him for not paying her some of the goodies promised in their divorce settlement.

Former Palm Beach County engineer Herb Kahlert — a close friend of County Commish Karen Marcus whose government job gave some the willies because of his power to build roads that could increase the value of his properties — defaulted on his first bi-yearly payment of $2 million to his ex, Patricia Kahlert, according to court records.

Good thing he’s been sending Trish the settlement’s $54,000-a-month support checks!

Kahlert, 67, who runs his development business through a maze of shell companies, could have been worth as much $150 million at the time of the divorce, in 2007.

commentofweekAmong the 23,807 comments posted on Page2Live so far, some stand out by their laugh-out-loud humor, wry wit, clever reasoning, or abysmal stupidity.

I pick five comments from the previous week on Mondays, and print the one with the most votes in my Friday column in The Palm Beach Post:

1. “Admitted to the Bar in 1989? How bout admitted to the ‘bar’ last evening!” (By JC, commenting on Attorney Gregg Wexler nabbed on DUI charge)

2. “Perhaps Channel 5 should hire the kid from Belle Glade that interviews Obama…” (By CJ, commenting on Stampede! Staff running for the exit at Channel 5)

3. “I would rather see Goodman not go to jail. He can pay taxes if he is out of jail. Make him donate to every cause imaginable. Jail costs money.” (by Message, commenting on John Goodman’s defense gave thousands to prosecutor’s campaign)

4. “They will be like a raging case of herpes going away when they step on that metal bus with wings…I cannot wait.” (By Mike Katz, commenting on Jersey Shore: They’re sick of South Florida!)

5. “Coming soon: “Bankrupt! The Musical!” Starring, produced by and written by Barry Kaye. If he keeps it up, he might want to try for a slot on the next Apprentice. I’d love to hear Donald tell him “You’re FIRED!” (By two cents, commenting on Former Boca insurance mogul Barry Kaye now a Broadway producer)

Channeling Michael Jackson: Tiger Woods builds oxygen therapy room in Jupiter Island mansion

Troubled golfer Tiger Woods, who’s battling injuries, facing divorce lawyers and dealing with shenanigans from mistresses, is building a sanctuary inside his soon-to-be-finished Jupiter Island mansion.

And it’s something Michael Jackson would’ve been proud of!

According to recent Martin County records, Woods is installing an “oxygen therapy room” in the gym of his new home.

Such rooms usually feature relaxation equipment, a Zen atmosphere and an hyperbaric chamber, a coffin-like steel tank that delivers pure oxygen to the body in high atmospheric pressure.

Made famous years ago when deceased eccentric pop superstar Michael Jackson was said to sleep in such an oxygen chamber in an attempt to remain young-looking, oxygen therapy is believed to help with various ailments like arthritis, allergies, gas poisonings, chronic fatigue and, of all things, herpes!

Some athletes, especially in the National Football League, are known to use extra oxygen to help wounds and infections heal faster. When rumors started last year that he used performance-enhancing drugs, Woods denied it but said he had been receiving oxygen treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.
