Former WPBF-Channel 25 primetime anchorwoman Lisa Hayward was nabbed by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night after she crashed her car in Pompano Beach. She allegedly had a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.
Hayward, 39, the wife of Miami’s WSVN-Channel 7 reporter Derek Hayward, suffered minor injuries, a burn to her left forearm when the airbag in her 2003 Honda deployed. No one else was in the car and no other vehicle was hit.
Hayward, now an anchor on the morning show of the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel’s television station, WSFL, was charged with DUI and failure to use due care after she blew a .17 on a Breathalizer test. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.
The Coconut Creek resident spent the night in jail, missed her TV gig this morning and finally paid her $2,500-bond about noon today.

Deputies called to an area near US1 found that Hayward’s Honda had hit a tree and she was stuck inside. They helped squeeze her out but then smelled alcohol on her breath. The deputies described in their report how Hayward’s speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot.
Hayward allegedly refused to submit to road sobriety tests and was arrested. She eventually agreed to a Breathalyzer test.

Hayward was one of the highest-profile anchors at Channel 25 for more than a decade. At one point, station bigs had Hayward, Tiffany Kenney and the late Kristin Hoke present the primetime newscast. Eventually, they the trio was split ,with only Kenney keeping the all-important night shift. Hayward’s contract wasn’t renewed in late 2008.
WSFL officials didn’t reply to a request for an interview and Hayward didn’t return calls.
For God’s sake, leave the woman alone, don’t you have anything else better to do JL?

A question I ask myself everyday, how come people get arrested for DUI, they deserve it. The public has been widely educated againsts the danger of drinking and driving…this is just annoying at this point and if she loses her job along with everything else, she deserves it!

Not excusing a DUI but it certainly doesn’t rise to the level of being a firing offense. Using your reasoning (or lack of) people might lose their jobs over a speeding ticket - which also puts others at risk.

Anyways, let the legal system do its job. She doesn’t need to lose her employment. If fact, if the channel wants to make lemonade from lemons, they could require her to complete a series on the ramifications of drunk driving. Hopefully by better educating society, there will be less of a chance of someone dying in the future.

She is a good friend of mine and made an unfortunate mistake. She will be very apologetic and suffer the indignities you provided, but she will bounce back stronger than ever and hopefully take action so that it doesnt happen again.

Many TV news anchor and reporters have drunk driving convictions and still work. NBC in Miami employs several anchors and reporters who have been convicted of drunk driving. NBC has always said that it’s not a serious enough offense to get rid of people. Jeff Burnside was arrested two years ago and he is still on the air as was never disciplined. They also employed a anchor and hired an anchor who they knew had a conviction on his record. You don’t even have to murder someone to get fired. Rick Sanchez killed someone when he was drunk and he anchors at CNN.
Did she kill someone “NO”, so get the woman professional help and on with it. The billionare that did kill someone in Wellington is out on bond and if he even get’s a slap on the hand it would be a miracle.

DUI is no big deal? Are you nuts? In 2003 my husband was killed by a drunk driver on Belvedere Rd near PBIA. my life was devastated and 3 boys left without their daddy. The girl driving the car had come from a party and was only 23 years old. She served 30 days of a one year sentence. She has since been arrested again for DUI. I am reminded how serious DUI is on each of my son’s birthdays and every holiday when John is not there. Never drink and drive. Never!!!!!
Poor woman. I wish her luck getting over this.

I had a three classmates (high school) and the 18-year-old daughter of a family friend all killed by drunk drivers. A job . . . what’s a job? If this is the first time she’s driven drunk (and the odds are against her there), hopefully she’ll now get the help she needs and take the steps necessary to make sure this never happens again.

Trees are all too often involved in dangerous or fatal crashes. It’s time we stopped this and eradicated all trees. There are many, many people who have lost loved ones and suffered serious trauma due to DUI drivers. I’d like those of you who think that it’s no big deal to tell them, personally, that it’s just a small thing and it could happen to anyone.

With a good lawyer she’ll still lose her license for some time but she’ll be able to get a work license. A lot of people posting here must be Republicans- they see the world in black

no middle ground with them- there are laws about penalties for DUI based on damage done- number of DUI’s- alcohol level- Judges don ‘t just make up shit as they go along.

I was called by a friend about this incident. I personally know her husband…have traveled and worked with him for over a decade. Met Lisa a few times…she is a caring mother of two beautiful boys and they are both responsible parents who have worked very hard in the TV biz for years. None of you who have posted negative comments don’t realize how stressful the News industry is. It makes it difficult to have a good balance between professional and personal time. In otherwords
its hard to socialize because there is hardly enouh time in the day to do the things you want. Lisa was devoted to her job in WPB and was laid off due to the recession and poor lack of judement from the higher ups at Ch.25. She bounced back getting hired at WSFL and hopefully they will do the right thing and not let her go. She is smart and will turn a negative into a positive and like most DUI incidents with celebs this will be water under the bridge…time heals all wounds. Stay strong Lisa and don’t lose your zest for life.
Unfortunately, the sun-sentinel will be losing all their tv anchors. going to a canned news format, so all of them have been searching for a new job.

Why didn’t you interview your co-workers in your newsroom who were drinking with Lisa Hayward the night she was arrested???? Wasn’t the hosts of the Morning Show there? Why not interview them? It was a Sentinel-Morning Show going away party after all. Easy to find a co-worker right?

I was graced with Lisa’s company at a wedding recently. The dress she was wearing was made of a very thin material that left nothing to the imagination. I could see her heart shaped pasties. I’ve been in love with her ever since.
What the hell is wrong with this woman??? I’d like to know why a MARRIED woman with kids is out drinking! I’d also like to know why a MARRIED woman with kids would post scantily-clad photos of herself all over the internet. Even if you think she’s attractive, there is definitely something wrong when there are VERY FEW IF ANY photos of her with her husband and the kids! I do find it very interesting that she consistantly parades around facebook and the internet to show off her body, though the ones in defense will easily say the obvious like, “what’s wrong with that?” I’ll tell you what’s wrong with that…I wouldn’t want my wife or my mom doing that! But again, the defense party on here think nothing of that. However, I don’t see any of the other attractive beauties from the station she left in Palm Beach or any of the other news stations in that area doing any of that. It only leads to the inevitable actions of someone out of control! Of course, she is a mom and she is a married woman. She was alone in the car when she crashed. She was DRUNK.
