Sofia Vergara, one of the stars of the Emmy-winning ABC sitcom Modern Family, tweeted this photo of her boytoy, former Florida Senate and Delray Beach City Commission candidate Nick Loeb, after he underwent surgery in an L.A. hospital.

Loeb, 35, drove off a cliff in the swanky Los Angeles area of Bel-Air last week and sustained serious injuries. He was in the ICU at UCLA Medical Center for several days but his health has been improving.

“How can someone look so handsome after six hours in an operating room. Luv UUU!,” Vergara wrote in her tweet.

Hurricanes in; WPTV weatherman Keenan Smith out!

Now that the Atlantic’s churning with hurricanes, the heat’s turned up on South Florida TV weathermen.

And that’s the moment that one of them chose to exit the kitchen!

WPTV-Channel 5’s Keenan Smith, who was the first to forecast the day’s weather for T-Coast and Palm Beach County viewers at 4:30 a.m., is hightailing it outta Dodge. His last day was today.

Check this out: He wants to work somewhere that has four seasons!

So he picked Detroit, a dying city that people usually leave, over vibrant West Palm Beach.

Sup with that?

“I’m thrilled to be moving back to the Midwest and back to a climate with four seasons,” he said in a statement. “I’m also excited to be moving to the Detroit area.  There’s a unity of spirit in the people in Southeast Michigan that you don’t find everywhere.”

Smith’s new gig at WXYZ-TV, Motown’s ABC affiliate, starts in two weeks.

We hardly got to know the guy, except that he seemed competent enough albeit a little stiff. Smith arrived in 2008 from Chicago to replace long time forecaster Dean Tendrich, who quit to go into real estate. The 4:30 a.m. dudes are now weekend meteorologists James Wieland and Glenn Glazer, who’ll rotate in and out of the shift.

By the way, Keenan, we have four seasons here: Football, snowbird, mosquito and hurricane season, in case you didn’t have the time to notice!

Ex-Florida Senate candidate Nick Loeb hurt in car crash

Former State Senate candidate Nick Loeb was in critical condition today at a Los Angeles area hospital after a single-car crash in the swanky Bel-Air neighborhood.

Loeb, 35, who also ran unsuccessfully for Delray Beach City Commission, is mostly known in Tinseltown for the company he keeps. He has been romantically linked to sitcom star Sofia Vergara, who lives near the crash site.

The West Coast website TMZ reports this morning that paramedics found the trust-funder Loeb suffered a severely broken leg and a “deep gash” to his chest in the crash, which occurred on a narrow, winding road running through hilly Bel-Air.

While Vergara stars in the ABC hit series Modern Family, Loeb has been dabbling in movie production. He is the son of Ronald Reagan White House ambassador John Loeb and a cousin of former Seagram boss Edgar Bronfman.

Loeb was recently divorced from his Swedish wife Anna, who was arrested for DUI in Delray shortly after Loeb announced his candidacy for Sen. Jeff Atwater’s seat last year. Loeb quit the race a month later and took up with Vergara.

Conservative radio and television talker/preacher/doomsayer Glenn Beck quietly visited West Palm Beach Friday night for a hush-hush fundraiser at the new Phillips Point Club. The controversial Beck, whose on-air antics include lots of crying, and his wife Tania had dinner with about 35 of his followers, including Palm Beach socialite Renee Morrison and Palm Beach Gardens GOP supporter Dr. Eric Fishman. Also there: local Republican candidate for the U.S. Congress Allen West, who’s hoping to score some air time on Beck’s show. (See below) The money that Beck’s shindig raised is to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a charity that provides education to the children of fallen special ops soldiers. Melting ice: Wellington rapper Vanilla Ice falls into a ring of fire

Vanilla Ice promised back in May that he’d do what he called a “kick ass” stunt to make the reality TV show he’s finishing a little more exciting.

He delivered.

Ice, who lives in the Versailles community in Wellington, drove a ‘67 Cadillac up a short ramp, through a ring of fire and into a pond. It all happened last week on land Ice, aka Rob Van Winkle, owns in the north part of Palm Beach County.

Check it out:

The 42-year-old singer of Ice Ice Baby has been working on a TV show all summer in which he attempts to flip a distressed property down the street from his in Versailles.

When the entertainer bought the place in foreclosure earlier this year, vandals stole wall fixtures, garden and pool equipment, tiles, pavers and the appliances. So Ice and his crew have been pimping the crib up, hoping to sell it for at least three times the $420,000 he paid for it.

Ice told Page2Live when I toured the house in May that he’d add pranks and stunts to turn up the entertainment value of the program.

As for the Caddy stunt, in case you’re wondering, no one got hurt. The rapper-turned-builder emerged from the sinking car while pumping his fists in the air. He then disappeared underwater as his entourage wondered if he was drowning.

He did eventually come up for air.

Former WPBF-Channel 25 primetime anchorwoman Lisa Hayward was nabbed by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night after she crashed her car in Pompano Beach. She allegedly had a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.

Hayward, 39, the wife of Miami’s WSVN-Channel 7 reporter Derek Hayward, suffered minor injuries, a burn to her left forearm when the airbag in her 2003 Honda deployed. No one else was in the car and no other vehicle was hit.

Hayward, now an anchor on the morning show of the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel’s television station, WSFL, was charged with DUI and failure to use due care after she blew a .17 on a Breathalizer test. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.

The Coconut Creek resident spent the night in jail, missed her TV gig this morning and finally paid her $2,500-bond about noon today.

Former TV anchor Bob Nichols in golf club fight

Nichols (The Palm Beach Post)

Nichols

A brawl involving former television weatherman and anchorman Bob Nichols at a Lake Worth country club – you read right, a genteel country club – ended with the arrest for battery of a club worker.

Nichols, formerly of WPEC-Channel 12 and WPTV-Channel 5, and other members were having a drink at the Sherbrooke Golf & Country Club bar when they objected to the spicy language of club employee Gino DiFonzo, the son of manager Pauline DiFonzo. The country club is owned by local philanthropist Mac Schwebel.

“He was swearing in front of female members,” Nichols said about Tuesday’s incident. “So I went outside.”

But then, so did DiFonzo.

And when he exited, DiFonzo claims he overheard Nichols badmouthing him.
