South Florida steams up reality TV screens

Not just one, but four reality television shows based in South Florida could be polluting the airwaves by fall.

“I guess that makes us the reality TV capital of America,” said Miami-Dade County Film Commish Jeff Peel. “We’ll take it.”

The Real Housewives of Miami, a Bravo production that’s been on and off for months, is definitely back on, Page2Live has learned.

And if you like your boob-tube really trashy, then you’ll be happy to know that the new season of Jersey Shore — the MTV show starring yutes, I mean youths, who would’ve made great extras on The Sopranos — is going to be filmed in Miami Beach.

Palm Beach artist Edwina Sandys shows her wares

The boisterous Palm Beach artist Edwina Sandys — a painter, sculptor, illustrator, print-maker, and the granddaughter of WWII British Prime Minister Winston Churchill — is showing some of her work at the Whitney building downtown West Palm Beach. The show’s curated by local collage artist Bruce Helander. The show opened over the weekend, and is scheduled to be open to the public until March 20. Lauren Conrad tells sweet little lies

Hard to believe that anyone associated with MTV’s The Hills would find their way anywhere fine books are sold, but hottie Lauren Conrad did just that Wednesday in Coral Gables. But then again, there was a buck or two to be made. Conrad, who quit the pseudo-reality show earlier this year, was at Books & Books to sign copies of her second tome, Sweet Little Lies. It delves further into the life of the reality TV star character dreamed up by Conrad in her first, L.A. Candy. “If fans take anything away from the book, [they should know] there’s a back side to every story,” she told MTV. “And when you’re reading tabloids and seeing these people’s lives exposed, it does affect them and it is hard to go through as a young girl.”

Still not engaged! It’s not about my ring, says Kim Kardashian

Still no ring, says Kim Kardashian, moments after the Super Bowl (click on the photo for celebs at the Super Bowl)

See, no ring yet! Kim Kardashian celebrated the Saints victory on the field of Sun Life Stadium (Click on the photo for more celebs at the game)

Weeks before Super Bowl XLIV, reality TV star Kim Kardashian blurted out to a radio d.j. that New Orleans Saints running-back Reggie Bush would propose marriage if he won the big game.

Well, he did win.

But there’s still no engagement.

Page2Live asked the pretty, big-bottomed brunette about it as she celebrated the victory on the Sun Life Stadium field Sunday.

“No, he hasn’t proposed,” the star of E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians said. “But let this moment be about Reggie’s ring and not about mine.”

It’s not like the two, however, aren’t tight.

For one thing, Kardashian will take place on the team float with Bush at today’s victory parade for the Saints in New Orleans. And then, their respective families bonded during Super Bowl week. Kardashian’s mom Kris Jenner and brother Rob, who are also on the reality show, and Bush’s dad, Reggie Bush Sr., brother and stepmother, were seen falling in each others’ arms during the on-the-field celebration Sunday. And the entire crew dined at the Prime 112 steakhouse in Miami Beach Friday night.

. . . I’m at my seat above the Indianapolis Colts’ end zone. The ride to the stadium-that-keeps-changing-name, about 1:30 p.m., was a breeze. Scalpers are still pushing tickets at various interstate exits. Weather’s clear and the temperature is in the mid-60s. Football weather!

. . .  Bobby Boucher’s in da house! Funnyman Adam Sandler, who played the lovable half-witted football phenom Boucher in The Waterboy, is on the field with shrill-voiced comedian Chris Rock. Sandler won’t tell who he’s rooting for, but he’s getting on just about every pre-game show . . .

. . . Also expected: actors Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Hillary Swank, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba, David Caruso and Jim Carrey. A law enforcement source is telling me that former Prez Bill Clinton flew in yesterday and was expected to catch the Super Bowl but plans changed at the last minute and he’s a no show . . .

. . . Speaking of Clinton, I ran into his former campaign manager, and current TV pundit James Carville at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale Saturday night. He was with his wife, GOP commentator Mary Matalin, unrecognizable without her TV makeup on. The two argue on just about everything, but both are rooting for the New Orleans Saints. Carville, who has hung out with the most powerful politicians on earth was giddy as a school girl when he had his picture taken with Hall of Fame inductee Emmitt Smith at the hotel’s steakhouse, Steak 954. “Look, I’ve got my picture taken with Emmitt Smith,” he said on his way out . . .

Super Bowl XLIV: Country star Carrie Underwood’s airport gauntlet

Underwood, Wednesday at Miami International

Carrie Underwood, who’ll singing the national anthem before Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIV, got a rock star welcome to the area Wednesday afternoon — and she didn’t like it!

Underwood, 26, who sported her $150,000-engagement ring from Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, was greeted by a swarm of paparazzi at Miami International Airport.

Underwood carried a rat terrier while walking through the terminal, and screamed at the paps that they were “scaring my dog!” She also hid her face from camera-wielding fans, and refused to sign autographs.

To add insult, the former American Idol star couldn’t find her limo and was forced to take a good old-fashioned, sweaty Miami cab.

Trashy Rex Ryan, head coach of the New York Jets, was fined $50,000 by his own team after an incident at the BankAtlantic Center Saturday.

Ryan was photographed flipping the bird to Miami Dolphins fans who taunted him during an extreme-fighting bout. Ryan apologized Sunday, calling his actions “stupid and inappropriate.”

But even if Ryan didn’t grovel enough and will have to pull out his wallet, the coach gained an unexpected fan.

Who dat?

“Man, honestly, I’m starting to like him,” the big Dolphin Crowder told the Palm Beach Post’s Hal Habib Tuesday. “He’s silly. He’s goofy. He’s like a big kid . . . Rex is not a bad guy. I flip people off all the time. It’s fun.”

Ryan, meanwhile, also could be fined by the league — which had Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams pay up $250,000 for extending both middle fingers at Buffalo Bills fans last year.

Super Bowl XLIV: SoFla’s home to thousands of NFL players, officials, team owners

Burress, who's serving 20 months on a gun charge.

Retired three-time Super Bowl champ and former Florida Gator star Godfried Myles sums it up best: “There are two places in this country where most football players live:  South Florida, and Arizona. But South Florida’s the place.”

He ain’t kidding. The area is home to thousands of former, and current, NFL players, officials, TV commentators and team owners.

There are actually so many NFLers here that former Dolphins majority owner H. Wayne Huizenga used that fact a few years back when he unsuccessfully tried to talk the league into declaring Dolphin Stadium the permanent home of the Super Bowl.

When gun-toting wide receiver Plaxico Burress is released from jail next year, he’ll probably rebuild his life at home in Lighthouse Point, not too far from where New England Patriots star Randy Moss lives, in a modest $250,000-home in Boca Raton.

And Washington Redskins owner Dwight Schar spends nearly every winter weekend in his $68 million-Palm Beach mansion. Baltimore Ravens financier Steve Bisciotti is at home in Martin County’s Jupiter Island, down the street from Canadian songbird Celine Dion.

Super Bowl XLIV: Ticket prices remain low, sorta

superbowl_xliv_logoSix days before the Super Bowl at Dolphin Stadium, there may be as many as 7,000 tickets for sale on the secondary market, according to several scalping websites.

And that has depressed the prices.

On StubHub.com, for example, a regular Joe who really wants to see the New Orleans Saints take on the Indianapolis Colts can get a seat in the nose bleed with a face value of $500 for about $1,200.

Lower premiums are hovering around the $3,500 mark, a far cry from the average price of scalped tickets at the Super Bowl two years ago in Arizona, $4,300.

But if you happen to have more extra cash, there may be deals to be had in the suites.

“I just sold my suite for $60,000,” said West Palm Beach attorney Joe Farish, who leases an 8-seat box for $115,000 during the regular Dolphins season. The Super Bowl, he says, is extra, and he paid $17,000 for the game including food.

But he put it on the market last week, and he more than tripled his money. And those who bought it got a deal.

“I just wanted to get rid of it, but compared to previous super bowls here, it’s not that good,” Farish said.

Super Bowl XXXIII at Dolphin Stadium in 1999 brought Farish offers of $150,000.

As for Sunday’s game, StubHub has a 32-seat luxury suite up for $243,000! Keep an eye on it. It will free fall by the weekend.

And, believe it or not, there’s a secondary market for parking passes, too. Current prices are $200 for the cheapos far from the stadium gates on theseats.com, and $1,000 for the parking reserved for NFL officials.

Super Bowl XLIV: Britney Spears’ll be there

(Courtesy usmagazine.com)

Yikes! (Courtesy usmagazine.com)

Pop star Britney Spears has been holed up at the Hit Factory recording studio in north Miami for the past couple weeks, but there’s good chance she’ll be at the Super Bowl Feb. 7, Page2Live hears.

The wacky 28-year-old left for Los Angeles early Sunday so she could attend the Grammys, unfortunately wearing this hideous black see-through outfit (right). But she’s expected back for more studio work. And the big game, hopefully without that black number. Stadium officials are working on getting her in a club level box.

The mom of two has become a big event regular in South Florida. She attended several games of the Miami Heat’s NBA Finals in 2006, then with baby daddy Kevin Federline.

Meanwhile, Spears and her on-again, off-again current boyfriend, Jason Trawick, gave guests at the zen Setai boutique hotel in Miami Beach a thrill late Saturday when they materialized in the lobby in matching bathrobes on their way to the spa.
